hoepfully it won't be 'watered down' in terms of comfort and handling...but who knows. we as usual won't get this hatch model...but who knows, maybe another variant?
active damper will be nice, all civics will prob get it. but ugh i hope it doesnt look like the UK/EU tourer car, yuck.
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/honda/civic...eb3c394a0374%26
The 2015 Honda Civic Type-R is taking shape and our spy photographers have caught it testing against its key rivals.
Spotted on European roads for the first time, the new Type-R certainly looks a lot more menacing than the standard hatchback, as you would expect from a hot hatch that is reported to produce well over 300bhp.
• Honda Civic review
A large intercooler can be spotted through the wider grille and front air-intakes. This works together with the huge rear wing and side skirts to make it look almost as extreme as the touring cars from the BTCC.
Despite the extensive camouflage on the pumped-up bodywork, a new set of wide-bore quad exhaust pipes and high performance brake discs with red brake calipers are also clearly visible. It looks more like the extreme Mugen Type-R than a factory hot hatch.
The prototype was spotted testing in convoy alongside the 276bhp Vauxhall Astra VXR and the even more potent 345bhp Ford Focus RS500 Mark II, which proves that Honda is aiming to offer at least 300bhp in the new Type-R.
Although the Renaultsport Megane 265 was conspicuous by its absence, Honda bosses have stated previously that they aim to topple its Nurburgring lap record for a front-wheel drive car.
Honda has also ruled out an estate version based on the new Civic Tourer, claiming that the two cars are aimed at entirely different customers and that a crossover between the two made little sense.
Senior Market Researcher Patrik Ponec told Auto Express: “There is a big contradiction between the Type-R and the Tourer so I doubt we will ever combine the two… the concept of the new Type-R is a racing car for the road.”
The new hot hatch is being developed in Japan rather than by Honda Europe. However, the prototype in these shots was spied wearing UK plates, which suggests the brand is keeping a keen eye on the European market. The UK should be especially important to Honda because we buy more hot hatches than any other country in Western Europe and have the most demanding road surfaces as well.
These Honda Civic Type R spy pictures prove that testing is well under way but we are unlikely to see the new Civic Type R in production guise until the end of 2014, with a concept a possibility at the Geneva motor show next year.

doesnt look like it.
that car looks promising!!! as long as it's a mechanical LSD and it's priced right. I'd seriously be happy as shit.
<---- misses his boosted neon.

^pricing and yeah, they for sure have to do some trick diff just like the fucus RS
trick diff? you mean like ABS, traction control kinda like limited slip with one axle turning??
that sucks.
mechanical LSD makes a HUGE difference, torque steer is almost non existent.

we'll be getting this ...eventually (next year)
mk7 gti
this is our euro-spec test car, we literally just put it on the road two days ago
this version has the "performance pack" which is 230hp (vs 220), 340 mm front rotors and a mechanical front lsd
although i noticed it also has some electronic adjustment for the diff setting so i still gotta look into that
260 ft-lbs of torque too
but the best thing about this car is the progressive steering
the more steering angle you give it, the faster the ratio becomes
it's like 2 turns lock-to-lock (wtf)
this is probably the best handling stock fwd car i've ever experienced
and easily, EASILY, the best feeling electric power steering rack this side of a 991

Don't doubt you at all on the steering feel. But isn't that how all variable racks work? It works by having a finer tooth bitch for the beginning, and a larger, coarser tooth pitch towards the end of its travel for a quicker ratio.
And hang on...handles better than ITR? Whaaaaaat? That is the best handling fwd car I've driven in showroom stock condition...but I have not tried Focus st/Fiesta st...
i loooove me some finer tooth bitch

My understanding is that traditional, hydraulic variable-ratio PS systems are actually the opposite:
the teeth get finer at the end, with the goal being to maintain consistent steering effort at the ends of the stroke (because you lose leverage at higher steering angles, and this would otherwise require much more effort at the ends)
with this system, though, because it exploits the potential of EPS, allows the rack to become more direct (rather than less direct) at the ends
the electric motor's level of assist is calibrated to provide the same steering effort throughout the entire range of travel
it's some kind of techno wizardry but all i can say is it works very well
the result is 2 turns lock-to-lock combined with zero dartiness at highway straightline speeds

oh and about that diff
i learned that it's a clutch-type front LSD that is electro-hydraulically actuated
basically a haldex but for front-wheel drive

I'm totally not a fan of the styling myself, but I've never been a golf fan. The last good looking golf IMO is MK3 XD
