I was browsing ebay this morning

http://cgi.ebay.com/Hasselblad-500C-M-50...=item2a0627c3ab

but i did not get it.

I am seriously thinking about stepping up to a hasselblad for medium format. What's a good price for a 500cm with the 80mm lens?

Win. Much better use of shallow DoF than random street light poles (even if the colors were pretty).

cheers,

You hate that bokeh photo with a passion

and this time it was 200mm f/2.8 instead of 85 f/1.4. I'm looking forward to shooting some portraits at this same location.

I don't hate it, I like the colors and I'm jealous of the bokeh compared to the 1.8, but I like a little subject matter interest as well.

cheers,
scott

I happen to love the railroad switch lights.

And what is up with roller derby becoming all the rage lately?

here's my shit:

please pardon the watermark. I've stopped using those, but this is an old shot.

Here is a picture of my son from last week.

I love the lighting, the fill light was coming from the white garage door that was behind me. I also like the positioning of my wife.

The only think that I don't like is lens flare that ended up on his mouth. I knew that I was asking for it shooting into the sun but I was hoping for better placement of the flare.

I had considered using this shot for the sunset contest.

who do you submit your pictures to the DCist?

There is a phillyist site with email submission and the phillyist flickr group, I was wonder if using one way over another would make it more likely to get on the site.

DCist uses their flickr pool to select from. I would imagine Phillyist works in much the same manner

Scott,

The buffalo are difficult to see any detail because of the backlighting. Would a little flash on the closest buffalo freaked them all out?

I feel like this shot has a lot of potential, but the crop dulls the impact. Maybe a tighter crop that omits some of the blah-ish sky?

Beyond the fact that they ARE recognizably buffalo, I don't feel I need too much detail since it's about them standing around eating shortly after the sun popped it's head out. However, I've been working on figuring out layer masks and went back and re-processed it. I'll put the after pic in the same post as the first.

cheers,
scott

Thumbs up on the reprocess!

Sadly, now I might be the only one who can't use layer masks.

The hardest part, right now, for me seems to be figuring out how many and which operations to do in each layer and when to start a new layer and what previous layer that should be based off of. I've shut down CS3 in disgust in the middle of fucking up an image a half dozen times in the last few days.

cheers,
scott

Hey, all my edits are nondestructive. Besides, all you need to do is use your camera properly and then you can eliminate post processing all together. ;\)

BTW Here is my random photo of the day:

Taken with my 105 micro and some SB600s.
In LR I played with the exposure, saturation, contrast, sharpening and added some vignetting. It was pretty easy because the texture and color is pretty consistent throughout the frame (no grass or leaves to give it away).

*EDIT* At least they're in Texas where the paint will fade and interior crack, but they won't get much more rusty.
