So any of you chumps do your basement yourself? Mine is finished, but I am ripping out the carpet. I'm planning on using drilock for the subfloor and then some 5" Bruce turlington lock and fold engineered wood in a floating floor.

What did you use for a subfloor? Is there a better or cheaper subsitute than drilock?

platon is crap! terrible load ratings compared to deltafl.
But ya, I did deltafl + 5/8 OSB So you OSB was just floating over the deltafl?
No tapconed down, silicone applied to the tapcons before fastening. Makes for a super sturdy floor. Floor will be shitty if you just float the OSB over a membrane, plus good luck finding perfectly flat pieces of osb.

So you used a hammer drill to install the tapcon screws into the concrete. What size tapcons?

I can lend you my table saw (used it to do my hardwood floor) but it's fucking old school heavy mofo and in my shed. When do you need it?

You don't need silicone, thats just bananas
also don't need a table saw, circular saw or circular saw + saw sled are more than enough. You are more likely to hurt yourself using a table saw trying to rip big sheet goods unless you have the proper setup with in and outfeed support.

hammer drill hole, apply silicone to threads (JUST LIKE DELTA TELLS YOU TO DO, IT'S NOT FUCKING BANANAS!!!!), install. 1/4" tapcons x whatever length you need. And a table saw is pointless, you just need a skill saw, it's not precision cutting.

Bananas. The silicone is most likely not doing squat by the time its screwed down into place. Plus the fact that its unlikley water will ever penetrate any of the holes you drilled. Did you silicone all the cracks in the floor too? lol

But ya, I did deltafl + 5/8 OSB Delta FL is too expensive and hard to find in some areas. Unless you have an elephant in your basement than you are fine, thats what the OSB is for to distribute the weight load as well, its not rocket science. If it was such a bad product people would be complaining. Go troll somewhere else lol
Deltafl was cheaper. Rona son.

In general Platon can be had cheaper than Delta FL. Delta FL also comes in smaller rolls generally so it may seem cheaer but Price Per Sqaure foot its usually more expensive. Check out the nerds on RFD, they documented it to death avg 0.30 psf for Platon and 0.5X for Delta FL

Heated floors rock, esp in the bathroom Yes, they do! Even better when you have a towel warmer.
seriously? heated steering wheel and now heated floors? has your wife ever heard of wearing slippers for cold floors or gloves for cold steering wheel?!?!! You have no idea how nice a heated steering wheel is in the middle of winter!

My current house the previous owner used the dricore subfloor tiles,900 sq ft basement must of cost the guy huge bucks! We can definatly stay down here comfortably.I wanted to use them at my old house but they were to costly so I just threw the laminate over the concrete(with the thickest underlay) and boy was it cold down there. So for me,yes I feel the difference in comfort level. My kids will actually stay down there for hours without bugging us now.
