I was lucky when I sold my 50' DLP for $500 in 2008 that I paid 3k for in 2004.

Not so long ago: In 1997, Fujitsu introduced the first 42-inch (107 cm) plasma display; it had 852x480 resolution and was progressively scanned.[47] Also in 1997, Philips introduced a 42-inch (107 cm) display, with 852x480 resolution. It was the only plasma to be displayed to the retail public in 4 Sears locations in the US. The price was US$14,999 and included in-home installation. Later in 1997, Pioneer started selling their first plasma television to the public, and others followed. When I worked at Eaton's around 2007 they had some flat screens selling for over $20K
Eaton's? You meant 1997?
Eaton's filed for bankruptcy around 1999 and Sears bought them out in 2002 or so.

3d is lame as hell. but ya most of the higher end stuff will have it there anyways.
what does OP have now?
well right now i have a 46" LCD sharp aquos which is just fine. picked it up about 4 years ago for $1000 through a hookup at futureshop + boxing day. that TV will be going into the living room but i want a 65inch plasma non 3d for the basement. budget is about $1000-$1400 but seem like i can only get a 60 inch for that price since all the 65's are all tree dee and shit.

same with me, I'm looking for a new tv aswell. I want a 65" too but the prices really jump above 60" unless you get a plasma, but I don't want plasma because the room i'm going to be putting it in is quite bright.
I thought about just "settling" and getting this: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/s...2835266e814en02 its big, cheap, and can't really be that bad. I don't really wanna spend 2k+ on a tv. The only problem is, they don't have them on display in stores. I want to see the damn thing before I buy it. Even if i could return it if I don't like it, thats still a big hassle. Sadly I need a stand too, which adds to the cost.

pretty much, for example:
best buy, LG or samsung (same specs almost) plasma 60" non 3d = $1,099.00 - not bad
panasonic plasma 65" plasma 3d - $3,299.99 - WTF
and then at that price i might aswell get:
sharp aquos 70" LED tv - $3,849.99 (entire wall will be TV LOL)
I don't know, i guess i can just settle for the 60" and spend the rest of the coin on a kick ass surround sound system. between all of that and the new big ass fish tank i'm building i'm never going to leave the basement.

don't be retarded and wait for all the rush to calm down...january is a great month to buy TV's and everything under the sun...slowest month for retail period. That's what I am doing anyway, fuck wayne friday, fuck boxing day, fuck all this peasant bullshit. If you are going to be a peasant do it smart.
Worst case, rent a trailer and go to buffalo. I was at walden galleria pottery barn and their shit is half price from Canada. I am so tempted to buy up a bunch of shit, just lacking the 20k in spare change to furnish my house with pottery barn shit.
