I was lucky when I sold my 50' DLP for $500 in 2008 that I paid 3k for in 2004.

Remember when first gen plasmas where beasts?

We put a 42" up a client had from way back (Panasonic Display only, no tuner, no hdmi etc) thing bowed the drywall as it was steel studs, we had to take it down as they where worried it was going to fall on someone.

Also for TV's keep an eye on the auctions that Gibbys donates electronics too. I just missed the latest one but the prices start at 50% of MSRP and if nobody else bids you can get some good deals. I think I paid $750 for my 50" Panasonic GT30 Plasma last spring from there.

When I worked at Eaton's around 2007 they had some flat screens selling for over $20K

I remember being in PacMall in 2002 and seeing a Pioneer plasma for $12k.

Eaton's? You meant 1997?

Eaton's filed for bankruptcy around 1999 and Sears bought them out in 2002 or so.

well right now i have a 46" LCD sharp aquos which is just fine. picked it up about 4 years ago for $1000 through a hookup at futureshop + boxing day. that TV will be going into the living room but i want a 65inch plasma non 3d for the basement. budget is about $1000-$1400 but seem like i can only get a 60 inch for that price since all the 65's are all tree dee and shit.

same with me, I'm looking for a new tv aswell. I want a 65" too but the prices really jump above 60" unless you get a plasma, but I don't want plasma because the room i'm going to be putting it in is quite bright.

I thought about just "settling" and getting this: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/s...2835266e814en02
its big, cheap, and can't really be that bad. I don't really wanna spend 2k+ on a tv. The only problem is, they don't have them on display in stores. I want to see the damn thing before I buy it. Even if i could return it if I don't like it, thats still a big hassle. Sadly I need a stand too, which adds to the cost.

I just bought a 3d tv 2 weeks ago, and have since downloaded and watched 4-5 3d movies. Picture really looks good on actual 3d stuff, however the 2d convert to 3d isnt that special.

i've been rocking a rear projection for 8 years. picture is fine. sure it takes up some room, it's 1080i and it's awkward to move but i don't care. i had thought about upgrading to something flat and thin until this past week, when my kid launched a wii controller and the tv just trampolined that white log right back. not a scratch. ya, i'm sticking with it for a while. same reason we still rock carpets thru most of the house. house gotta be kid proof.

and you wanna talk heavy. we got a free TV a number of years ago. 36" sony trinitron tube. took 3 guys to move it up the stairs, step by step, and we had jello arms after. fuck i wanna get rid of it ...

Bought my Panny 65VT30 last year for about 3Gs and have watched about 4 3D movies on it. At first I didn't buy it for that feature but when you watch some of the movies out there now in 3D blu-ray (Avengers/Titanic) I find it pretty amazing.

Is the tv backlit somehow or is it just extra light from above?

pretty much, for example:

best buy, LG or samsung (same specs almost) plasma 60" non 3d = $1,099.00 - not bad

panasonic plasma 65" plasma 3d - $3,299.99 - WTF

and then at that price i might aswell get:

sharp aquos 70" LED tv - $3,849.99 (entire wall will be TV LOL)

I don't know, i guess i can just settle for the 60" and spend the rest of the coin on a kick ass surround sound system. between all of that and the new big ass fish tank i'm building i'm never going to leave the basement.

I would've liked to have gotten the 100's but it was almost doubled in price I think. Might consider getting another pair to use as "wide" speakers tho.

@dumbass: it's just the pot lights above. The tv is a plasma.

I bought a 60" Samsung LED 8000 series last year and have NEVER watched a full 3D movie on it. The only time we ever switch it to 3D is for like 5 minutes at a time when visitors come over and want to experience this 3D TV hype.

I do love the TV itself though. Picture quality is great, it was one of the thinnest LED panels and we bought it because it's bezel-less. It looks like a picture frame on the wall.

don't be retarded and wait for all the rush to calm down...january is a great month to buy TV's and everything under the sun...slowest month for retail period. That's what I am doing anyway, fuck wayne friday, fuck boxing day, fuck all this peasant bullshit. If you are going to be a peasant do it smart. ;\)

Worst case, rent a trailer and go to buffalo. I was at walden galleria pottery barn and their shit is half price from Canada. I am so tempted to buy up a bunch of shit, just lacking the 20k in spare change to furnish my house with pottery barn shit.

You will probably void any warranty if you buy the TV in the US though. I would double check that first.

i'll be doing what vas said...that usually the best way (as logn as you can find the model# tv you want still). otherwise i'd buy boxing week (cant stand going out boxing day). ideally get a buddy from a couple of stores i know to sell it discounted after the rush.

dont care one bit for 3d tv, may consider a smarttv but even then i use everything on windows7 media centre and xbox on my tv anyways.

want a nice 55" LED...either panny, sharp or samsung...but not a base model. have to try to find best bang for the buck.

You can also try going to the store just as it's about to close on Christmas Eve. They are setting up for Boxing day at that time and as long as it's advertised in store, you can get it for the price.
