I was able to pickup a set of coilovers from AST-USA recently and finally got them corner balanced and aligned. I went with AST because they are local to me and I had the opportunity to ride in the Vorshlag prepped Evo X with AST coilovers. Granted when I got a ride along it had 5200's, but I was still really impressed with the shocks.
I ended up buy through PTP another local raceshop for less than MSRP and had them talk to Terry Fair and Brian about the setup they ran after extensive testing. I ended up going with 700/800 lb/in springs which equal out to about 12.5/14.5 kg/mm. When I first heard the suggestion, I was a little apprehensive on rates these high, but I was assured that the shocks would make the ride liveable on the street and awesome on the track. There was a whole mess regarding getting them built and sent out which I will not go into, but in AST's defense, they were in the middle of moving to a larger facility.
When I first picked them up, PTP had already assembled them for me. They looked awesome, and felt really solid. I opted for the Vorshlag camber plates as well. The only negative I can think of is that AST does not drill the front mounts for the plastic abs sensor bracket. There is a stud and nut for the brake lines. The springs on the coilovers are made by swift, so there is quality there.
Install is straight forward. There are a thousand walk throughs on coilover installs so I wont go into that. I had eibach prokits on the car before, so I set the ride height just slightly higher. Measurement from ground to fender lip is 25 5/8 inches in the front and 26 inches in the rear.It should settle to be a little higher than the prokit. I always thought the prokit was a touch low and on stock struts it felt as though I was riding on the bump stops, even with the stock bump stops cut. You will need to order the adjustment extenders if you plan to change the settings on the rear struts at all. There is just no room to reach them. Luckily Chuck had a set, so I was able to throw those on.
The rears have helper springs but the fronts do not. At the ride height I set, with the suspension at full droop there is a 3-4 inch gap between the front spring and the perch. It doesn't cause a problem, just looks funny.
Ride is pretty awesome. I have ridden in Evo's with KW V3, Stance and Fortune Autos. My personal opinion is that the AST when adjusted have a greater change than the other cars I havew ridden in. If I put the AST's on full hard, the car rides like a tank. It is completely flat when turning, but rides like a tank. At full soft, the car is smoother than the Bilstein/Prokit setup. It is really a shocking difference, I wouldn't expect to feel a difference with one click, but with these you really can. I have not had a chance to setup them up using vorshlags guide, but I will be doing that next week in hopes of getting it dialed in for my PCA DE day.
I also installed an SSP deep trans pan to add 2 liters of fluid capacity, an AEM Trans temp gauge, an AMS lightweight front motor mount bar/bushing, and a CPE gauge pod to move the gauges off the column. The previous owner had mounted them in a way that blocked the speedo and tach. I was adding a 3rd gauge so I need to come up with a mounting solution.

It matches the interior perfect and is in direct line of site. I know it isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but it functions really well. I don't like a pillar pods and no one makes a center stack like I had in my IX.

I just got my 5100's direct for AST this past week too. My experience with their quality control and shipping wasn't the best. Lets just say that what I ordered was not what I was sent and was damaged. They are trying to be as helpful as possible, but there is only so much they can do / willing to do.
Driving a 4100 equipped GTi is what sold me on the setup. This coming Friday I will be installing mine after I get the missing hardware and tools.
My spring rates are more conservative, but I'm dealing with a much lighter MINI.

I am at 6 clicks from full soft on both front and back and the car rides like the stock bilsteins. I have a friend that is going to get me on the track for a members day prior to my DE day to tune the shocks for use with the NT01's

Idk, they don't bother me much, and I think they are better than the stock pink ones. I had looked at going with the ralliart tails, but I can find slot of things I would rather have for $300.

Got a chance to take the Evo out to MRC for a members day. We were running the 1.7 in CCW configuration. I am new to this track so today was mainly a test and tune day. First off the trans upgrades I made are paying off. I was able to run all day in super sport mode automatic with out the trans temps ever going above 200 degrees. The trans kills the fun at 265 degrees, and my last time out I had it overheat 3 times (once in ss auto, once in sport auto and once in sport with me shifting). Needless to say I am super stoked.
I attempted to setup the shocks like Vorshlag recommends. Started out in full stiff and it was understeer city. Even at some of the slower parts of the track the car would understeer like mad. I pulled into the pits and went two clicks softer on the fronts. The next time out the car actually started behaving. It was still having some understeer issues, but overall I was not fighting the car as much. I pulled into the pits after my second session and was approached by another driver. He is a porsche cup car driver who was out in his personal stock GT3 today. He gave me some awesome input and even took my car for a spin to help me dial it in. After we made his recommened adjustments, I took the car back out. Amazing.. the car was neutral everywhere, but it allowed me to rotate the rear with a touch more throttle if need be.
I started out the day running 1:40.4. Granted this is a new track for me, but those times are horrible. I ended up getting it down to 1:30.1 by the end of 3 sessions. To give you an idea on times, the fastest member car out today was a swapped ls2/rx7 on continetal r comps running 1:18. The stock GT3 on the same street tires I was on, bridgestone re760 sports, was running 1:21. The Vorshlag Evo on wider AD08's runs this config at 1:26. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but over all the new setup is great.

I have been prepping my car for the first full two day HPDE day since I bought it. I have added quite a few parts and I am just wrapping up all of the work. I headed on down to PTP to get the pre-event tech and prep done. I already had them align and corner balance my coilover setup, so today was an easy day changing brake fluid (Motul), transfercase and diff fluid, and installing my NT01's on the NT03+M wheels I picked up from Sean a while back. I snapped a couple of pics while waiting around. I will update after this weekend to see if all of the work was worth it.

Test fit of the NT's on the rear. The rim is a 18x10.5, tires are 275's, the rear fenders have a simple roll and I am currently running a conservative -1.5 degree's of rear camber. All this adds up to a lot of grip that doesn't rub.
Had to throw in a pic of Marc who actually did all of the work yesterday, all the while listening to me babble about this and that.
