The date is set. Here's the tentative schedule:
Who: CSi OG members and their trusted friends
Date and Time: 8:30 AM, 8/2/09
Loc: Rose Bowl Parking Lot
Agenda: Short run on a local favorite back road, followed by lunch. Should have everyone back in LA/SD by 2:00 PM or so.
Bring money for gas and food. More details to follow shortly.

Mazda 6 is a good call in the rental car selection. If they mess up your reservation for some reason you might also consider the Ford Mustang which sometimes they are happy to get rid of. It's technically an upgrade but I've gotten one fairly easily sometimes. Basically, be nice to the person when you're checking in and ask if they want to get rid of a low-gas mileage car like the Mustang.
Make sure you get a frequent-renter card from whatever company you're renting from, regardless of whether you rent frequently. They will treat you so much better, even if it's the first time. Once, on my first time w/ Avis, they went from "Sir, we only have a cargo van available, no cars." to "Oh, you're an Avis frequent customer? Please step to the VIP counter." and they gave me a selection of different sedans.
