Seems my 3 days off post race have become standard. 7.5 miles and 1500ft this morning. Felt real good. Just a few days over 3 weeks till I'm headed into new territory.

Oh, and 448 miles YTD for me. That's actually kind of low. Likely because of more racing=more taper/recovery.

What kind of taper do you do pre-race? I know three weeks appears to be the industry standard but that seems so looong /whining

And I'm at ???? mileage for the year because I don't keep track

About a week I guess. I'll ease back a little 2 weeks before, then run only one or two easy days race week.

Did my 3rd easy taper run of the week this morning, my legs feel fresh and I had no aches and pains.

Somethings not right.

It will be a beautiful day to suffer!!

Not up mt tam for my distance, the 50 miler hits it though.
Starts at fort baker, goes along coastal to rodeo beach, then to tennessee valley and to muir beach and back to tennessee and up marnincello and back down coastal to fort baker.

mtbiking mt. tam is like the outer limits for my endurance. probably a bit past it. so awesome the descent/scenery tho!

Well I had probably one of the best runs of my life today.
32 miles and 6200 or so feet elevation in 4:40.
I went out at what felt relatively easy and felt like I was in cruise control most of the race. I decided to do a vfuel gel every 30 minutes and stuck to that and felt great, no stomach issues at all and never had any really low points.
I passed 2 guys in the last 2 miles to take 3rd overall and 2nd in my age group. I even threw down a 6:30 for the last mile. Oh and the patagonia strider pros are the best shorts ever! Had 8 gels in those muthas with no issues at all!

Holy crap, Donnie! That's smoking! Congratulations on an absolutely phenomenal run

Do you find VFuel truly easier to digest?

I've been trying to order some all this week (coincidentally enough) but they're "coming soon". I emailed the guys and they said they're expecting a shipment soon, but so far no dice.

https://vfuel.com/shop-category/7/vfuel-gels.html

And what's the best flavor? I've got my eye on that peach cobbler!

Congrats again man - you must be drowning in confidence going into this season after that!

Wow man you're effing fast yo! That's awesome. Almost nothing better in life than when a race comes together perfectly. You rock man!

On my own personal note I have a half-marathon tomorrow I am hoping to PR in so I guess we'll know in 12 hours from now if I'm done or not will mean if I PR'ed or not. =]

So I'm back and alive from the half. Pretty happy, while also really annoyed with my time.

Previous half PR was 1:50:04 on April 6th of 2013.
New PR is 1:40:01 as of today. Obviously a 10 minute PR in under a year is awesome. But, man, if only my official time was 2 seconds faster! I have a personal goal to do a sub-100 minute half, just because. Ugh, lol.

I was actually going for a 1:45 today and just ran what I could and am surprised I was able to run as fast as I did.

Here's my Garmin Connect for the race:

Goddamn Donnie...nice job! 15 minutes faster than me and with 1500 or so more feet of gain! You're gonna be showered and changed at AR before I finish!

Congrats man. AWESOME time!!

Signed up for my 2nd marathon which is only 7 weeks away. Wanted to continue the "long" training runs just a little longer to see if I can break 4:30:00.

Ran 4 miles Friday and felt good. So back to the 'ol grind this week.

15km for st paddy's day yesterday, despite 1000s of obstacles (other "runners") managed a 1:16:30.

I would have liked to crack 8/pace, but I'll blame some of that on traffic jam nature.

It was a fun run, but I do like smaller races. Still I had 9 miles and a beer(free) by 10 am yesterday. Not shabby.

Kind of motivated to train again, so that's good.

This race definitely gave me a confidence boost, especially with how strong I felt late in the race.
I'm still going into AR without any crazy expectations though because I know how ugly things can get late in a 50 miler.

Pretty solid week so far:
10-trails
9-roads
10-trails
9-roads
12-trails

50-total. The wife flew out of town this morning, so no runs this weekend other than the 5k my sons school is putting on. Hoping for 19-ish minutes in that.

Developed a weird feeling in my left knee after last nights run. No real pain, but kind of a swollen and tight feeling (without any outwardly obvious swelling). Feels real tight when bent fully (like when squating) so I have no idea where thats coming from. Didnt effect todays run, so thats good.

Are you doing any resistance training? Different for everyone, but I've found squats and deadlifts are REALLY helping with my recovery. Maybe you just hit an angle on the trail wrong?

I know I need to, but I still have never worked in any strength or core training. The knee thing started after last nights run on the road too...and nothing memorable about that other than the shit explosion I posted about. I guess I could have tweaked it a bit stopping the hundred or so times in the last mile to keep from pooing all over the sidewalk.

Chris, 50mi in a week is no joke. It's been a bit rough getting back into the swing of training, after the 50k I had an easy recovery week with only 30min of workouts everyother day.

This is my week so far, my coach said it's kinda light then it's back onto full ironman training from here on out.
