For the SoCal'ers:
Just did 5.1 miles in the lovely 33 degree evening air. Very still out, so it was actually a nice run.

Sick I did a 5k in the evening for no reason yesterday and I was still sore from tues, the whole thing sucked. Today I did a 5k after a bike commute day (24 miles) and it sucked even worse (just sub 10 min mile pace)
Sometimes I wonder if I'm making any progress. 11 miles jogged for the week m-f (a lot for me) which means a long run this weekend should have me in unexplored territory. I think my knee hurts a little too, trying to ignore it. Fuck

What do you guys do to keep your legs warm in < 30 degree temps?
I've got some trips coming up where I'll be stuck for a few days in that temp range, was thinking of getting something like: http://www.rei.com/product/817411/rei-airflyte-basic-tights-mens

Well, Vegas is done. Great course but HOLY CRAP was it crowded. I was a total turtle in traffic until the last three miles. Scored negative splits the last half of the route to boot.
Despite the crowds and nasty headwind, I managed to squeeze out a 1:52:40, averaging 7:50 the last two miles. Looking forward to breaking 1:50 at the New Years Race (6 weeks).

Congrats. Sounds like the exact opposite of the race I did especially the part about the last 2 miles. The last two of mine I was spent and slowed to 8:40-9:00. Also only 186 finishers and lucky only a slight wind.
Really want to try the vegas half or full one year.

Thanks man. Definitely do the half. The full seems more like an afterthought with limited views lol.

I think it's not shin splints I'm feeling. Just calf muscle weakness leaving my body. [calves hurt when running after a speed-work day--something I virtually never do]

Cold and rainy today. Decided against running. Later saw two separate (hot) chick track teams (a local HS and Providence College) out running in the rain. Still jumped rope indoors.

That weather seems a little nicer than the 30 degree 4 miles I did today.
Nice work on another beast of a race. [rawlings]Get you some![/rawlings]

Finished my half today, didn't quite meet my stretch goal of 90 mins, but I'm happy where I wound up at 1:36:xx http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/637765685
I started out with the 1:30 pace group, but I could tell by mile 2-2.5ish that it just wasn't going to happen so I dropped off. Started feeling really terrible around miles 4-5, probably because I started a little faster than I should have, and I was literally in no-man's land with the 1:30 group way ahead and nobody behind for probably 1/3 mile or more.
I tried to keep a quick & steady pace, when a lady came up to pass a little bit later I latched on and held her until mile 10 where she faded. I just held pace through to the end and felt pretty good crossing the finish line.
Overall I'm happy, much better than my last time of 2:03. I think with a few more months training I've got a shot at sub 1:30.

^sandbagger (j/k, great job)
Few more months of training at that rate of improvement I figure you're looking at the 1:10 range lol

Thanks guys, yeah I didn't really get "serious" about training until about 2-3 months back. I think I can start upping the mpw & intensity a little bit at a time from here to make it into 1:30 territory.
