So I'm still not sure if my issue is plantar fasciitis or what. It is still sore, but located entirely in the heel area, and not in the arch at all. I got a pair of Feetures Plantar Fasciitis socks anyway and was wearing it a lot over the weekend and it seemed to feel better.

I ran 5 miles on Sunday and it didn't hurt at all, walking is worse than running, haha. However, this is because I was running entirely on the balls of my feet and 24 hours later my calves are still sore. So that's not a good solution for longer runs, going to do 10 tomorrow and see how I feel.

I'm at 298 miles on the year, which is great for me. I've also walked over 100 miles just from walking to work and back so far this year. So I'm pretty happy with where I am and just hoping this heel issue doesn't stick around too long, or get worse.

I signed up for a 50 miler on July 12th called Bullet Creek 50, ironically signed up only hours before my heel issue started. I'm excited to work my way up to that. I have plans now for races through the rest of this year and into March of next year even. Excited to have my calendar filled out!

AFAIK there isn't much that can go wrong in the heel area, so you may have just bruised it or something.

I will say, if it was me, and if the pain was bothering me as much as it seems to be bothering you, I definitely wouldn't be doing 10 mile runs till I had it figured out.

Well it is enough to be agitating when walking, and sometimes just sitting around. But not like I try to stand up and fall over clutching my heel, lol.

And, it was better when running, mostly because I'm more of a flat foot/front foot runner, so I put more weight and stress on it walking than running.

I only have 15 weeks to train for a 50 miler no time to screw around! ;\)

Dude, I'd consider Chris's advice. You've gotten really far in a short time and it'd be a shame to exacerbate an injury and take yourself out.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Think about taking a week easy, it's better than a month.

I've played this game while dealing with a nagging injury…it doesn't end well brotato.

And this just in, Jared Campbell becomes the first person finish the Barkley Marathons not once, but twice. Ridiculous.

I'm trying to play it cool so far. It has only been since Thursday that it started acting up. Don't want to jump to any conclusions on it without giving it at least a week. But I also don't want to miss running I don't need to. I'm sure everyone understands that, lol. When you get that motivation and get in that groove you just want to go out and pound some pavement/trail. So here's to hoping I can give it a shot tomorrow!

One thing I have taken away from my short time doing ultras is that shit is going to happen and you learn to adapt and work through it. I dealt with really bad IT band issues for about 6 weeks leading up to my first 50. I went into the race not knowing if I would even make it 10 miles and ended up finishing and having an incredible experience.
Where theres a will, theres a way.

I think it goes both ways. I've seen guys push through pain only to complicate things even worse. But that type of injury is unfamiliar to me.

Yeah, you have to learn to differentiate the significant pain from the insignificant. I've done the whole "where there's a will there's a way" and took myself out of running altogether for two months. My friend Jeff gave himself a stress fracture and missed even more.

But at the same time you don't want to miss three days because of a blister. Gotta find that balance.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. It definitely feels better the past 2 days. While I obviously don't want to injure myself, I feel like sometimes you just have to go run and figure out what is ok and what is bad, what you can deal with and what you can't, etc. So it is a training run for a 50 miler, but also a training run for my brain and tolerance level. Currently I'm pretty confident I will be super fine. Then again, why would I run if I didn't feel that way? Lol.

What race are you guys doing this weekend?

Awesome! You guys are pretty serious with being awesome so you'll do great. I'll look forward to the race reports! I'm currently thinking 10-12 hours for my 50 miler, I bet you guys are looking at sub 8 hours. You guys are jerks. ;\)

Boom 10 miles in and zero heel issues. Awesome. However, my calves were already sore beforehand, so now they're extremely upset, lol. Rolled them out and got compression sleeves on so I'll be good.

Was one of those awesome runs where you're just going and feeling great. Having my heel not bother me made me not care about other minor issues, I swear I had a runner's high for the whole ten miles. Ended up doing 10.2 in 1:28, pretty good time for not being 100%. Feeling good!

Just to add some credibility to their predicted times...
Their predicted first place female who they have finishing in 6:35 has run one 50k which took her 7:25.

Ignore the man (and mathematical assumptions) behind the curtain!!

I actually checked and they have faster predictions for you than purely your average percentages. I don't understand their math but ampsman: 7:04 and ironmon: 8:24

Good luck, gents!

Had a f***ing awesome night tonight. Not only did I take my training run outdoors for the first time, I shattered my previous time by over 12 minutes. 60° weather probably helped. ;\)

Newport to Seal Beach and back. 20 miles @ 3:15:19.

That's my last 20 miler before OC. Hoping to break 4:30 this time around.

I did 9.3(15km) race 3 weeks ago and felt fine.
Did a few runs in between, some easy, some speed, figured it'd been 2 weeks so I pushed up to 10.5m(at a much slower pace). What's weird is I didn't really hurt afterwards though.

But I think I made it worse, because tuesday I squatted(always barefoot), and wednesday my "slow" 3 turned into a tempo run.

Son of a motherless goat, I hate my fucking feet.

Everything else is raring to go. But it hurt to fucking walk or stand for long periods yesterday.

That's the frustrating part. Everything except my feet are ready for 1/2 marathons, and based on recent paces I'm about as fast as my normal.
If my feet weren't being useless I'd be ready to train for breaking a PR.

Instead I'm putting insoles in all my normal shoes, researching taping, and doing ice baths on my feet.

STupid me overslept and didn't have time to pack up for cycling in. You'll get a laugh at my bike paces. I could excuse it with 1990s mtn bike technology on street tires, but really I'm just a sad cyclist.
I have the feeling I'll start biking just to get some cardio.

Yeah, I've been fighting my feet my entire "career". It's been the only injury i've had besides a sprained ankle which I got walking).

I've tried different shoes, no avail. I try ramping slowly.

Well I think I have a few new ideas to try. Night splints, taping, etc.
But I can't imagine I'll be running for a week at this point, and even then it'll be short and slow.

I'm fairly certain you're a much better cyclist than you give yourself credit. You put down some decent miles. Eventually, that amounts to something.

Nah comparing my capability to the people I'm hoping to chase (lol) in the sprint/Olympic tris show that everyone's strong leg is the bike and I'm waaaay off the pace.

Neways when are Ampsman and cierrecart going to post their ultra results from yesterday we saw on stravaaaaaa? Good job guys. Amps ESP killed it :wow:

Did a Ragnar Relay race this weekend with some people from my gym. My legs totaled over 13 miles. This was a fun run so not really all that challenging for me. Though I was assigned one of the easier running spots. Some runners had to do over 20 miles. Our van leader is a Ironman guy so he ran over 30 miles. Crazy. I seriusly want to do it again and be assigned one of the spots that takes on over 20 miles. The whole experience was pretty awesome. Pretty much hooliganing from city to city. Tagging/marking other ragnar vans, beer runs, barely any sleep, socializing with other teams, running around half naked at exchange points, etc. It was a big party on wheels. Felt like teenagers on drugs lol

First 50 miler in the books.

All in all a fantastic experience. My goal going in was to take it as easy as possible so that I crossed the finish line not dreading the idea of doing 100. Pretty much accomplished that. First 24 went by really quickly, then my friend Joe (who I paced at Western States) surprised me by keeping me company for the next 15, till my dad jumped in for the last 10. He's not really fast, so it was nice to just take it easy. I might have been able to go a little faster and come in under 9 hours, but I don't care...it was an experience I'll remember forever.

The last 3 miles is pretty much 1500 or so feet straight up...but I was feeling so good I ran/hiked that section better than I thought I could. Crossed the line in 9:06 feeling better than I have in any 50k I've done. 130/826 finishers.

Ampsman of course killed it and got 32nd overall and was waiting a good hour and a half for me to finish. (Only because I had to drive him back to his car, Ha!)
