Does run keeper have a pause function that will stop time when you stop? I have to stop at the odd red light and I use Endomundo but the pause function is pretty hit and miss.

I only use Runkeeper to log my miles...I don't carry my phone on my runs. I use my Garmin and manually stop it at lights and such.

You can pause on Runkeeper. That's assuming one doesn't mind manually toggling the screen to do so.

Chris - that mileage is damn impressive. I sense a solid performance at HB.

Oh and almost forgot... New distance record; 21 miles in 3:41:50. Yes, all on the treadmill.

Man 2k miles is nuts! I see you dipped in summer and really ramped it back up here in Fall/Winter. Good job man. Just today I hit 1250 miles on the year. After last year doing 385, so I'm proud of that. My goal was 1000. I got my run tomorrow yet to finish the year, probably around 1255. \:\)

Yeah. The dip was when I was training hard for IM Tahoe so I had to back off the runs to squeeze in swim and bike training.

Time to go for 3,000 in 2014?

Heck you can hit 2600 just by doing a 100miler every other weekend. You can fill out the other 400 easy enough.

On a serious note, I want to start biking and swimming next year so my run total will probably drop as well. Which is fine, more worried about overall fitness than just running. \:\)

I got into a rhythm, so I kept going until I started to struggle. Ended up doing ~10k at a damn good pace for me. \:\)

I only did ~2800 miles on my bike and some of you fuckers are running close to that.

http://www.irunfar.com/2013/01/werunfar-liz-bauer-and-scott-brockmeier.html

You joke, but this 53 year old woman ran 36 100-mile races in the 2012 calendar year. Her husband/partner ran 27.

3,600 miles. Spread across 36 races. I see a couple sections where she ran one a weekend for three consecutive weekends!

Months before I had any idea who she was I ran into her at Leadville. I politely said "on your left" as I was passing her on the single track around Turquoise Lake and she said "yeah yeah, go ahead and pass me but I'll be passing you again on the road section!!" and not in a particularly fun and friendly way. I heard other people grumbling about what a jerk she was out there too, but I guess if that's your 22nd 100 miler of the year you get a free pass to be a bit touchy

I ran 11 tonight at 6:49 pace and felt fantastic! I'm just hoping I can feel that good on February 2nd!

That puts me at 263 miles for the month. I'm planning on at least another 10 tomorrow, so I'll be finishing out the year with a huge month for me!

If I don't puss out on signing up for Leadville in 2 days, I could very well hit 3k miles next year with all the training I'll be doing.

That's huge man!! T-Minus 15 hours now...

Do you guys have scales and track your weight? My brother got a scale for christmas that syncs with an app over Wifi and it looks sweet. Part of me thinks a wifi enabled bathroom scale is utterly ridiculous...but the more I think about it the more I like the idea of stepping on a scale twice a day and having all the data automatically uploaded and compiled for me. I don't care enough to track it in excel but it'd be fun to know.

I've got a good 12-14 pounds to lose over the next 6 months - I'm not too worried but a scale would help keep me accountable.

I have a Detecto doctor's scale that came with my house. I weigh in once a week and write it on the calendar that I track all of my workouts on.

BTW--I'm pretty damn sore from that last run. I guess doubling my usual mileage has its ramifications

Thankfully, it's just aches and not injuries tho

Not sure the brand of my scale, but I haven't used it in a few months. I need to get back on it though. Hoping to drop 5 or so pounds in January so I'm a bit lighter come race day on the 2nd.

Just ordered a wifi scale so I can track this stuff. I have about ~13 pounds to lose by August and then hope to maintain that weight through November.

And BIG NEWS, my little brother (the dreadlocked one) who used to smoke cigarettes and pound energy drinks has gotten involved in meditation, healthy eating and increasingly endurance sports over the past year or so. He's ridden a couple 100 milers on my mom's old bike (including a 130 mile solo effort) and just yesterday signed up for the TNF DC 50 miler in June. His longest run to date has been 21 miles but I think he'll be fine. It's amazing to see how far he's come over the past 3-5 years. Good stuff bro

I only gained 2 lbs over the holidays (only so much damage I can do tonight), which is awesome compared to the 7 lbs I gained over the holidays last year. I'm having a much easier time watching the diet this time around.

I'm happy at 185-186, and I'm 188 now.

Lol, I know. I'm convinced my success will come down to mostly pure luck. \:D last nights run was a big confidence booster though. Being able to run that quick, without that much effort, with this many many miles on my legs tells me my body wants to do it. I just need to get to that start line well rested, and mentally sharp so I don't make any mistakes.

It is awesome when your body is just right for a run (even better if it is a race!). I did a "hill" repeat tonight. I ran over a bridge and back for 3 laps, so 6 times over it. I didn't feel like I was going fast but my miles were right around 8:30. I was like ok well doing hills at that pace kicks ass!

Best of luck man, look forward to the stories and pictures. Even though I don't aspire to run 100 mile races, there's something awesome about leadville(as someone who loves belt buckles, I'm jelloc).

So you did it huh? I haven't decided if I want to or not. Right at this moment I don't have $300 to spend on it regardless. But if registration stays open for a week and I get paid I'd be able to afford it.

Guess I'll have to see if you guys (and myself) can talk me into it. :P

And I just saw the race is sold out. They say the cap was "several hundred fewer slots" than last year so it should be a great event and not the total mess it was last year.

It's still wild that it sold out in 20 hours. In my *cough* extensive history of registering for this darn race I've signed up as much as 6 weeks after it opens. Wild stuff!

The quest for speed continues. Today I watched a video that Sage Canaday did on his tips for training for a sub 3 hour road marathon, and one of the 3 suggestions was doing 2 mile repeats. God damn they are hard, but I can see how they are really good for getting you mentally fit to keep moving fast when you get tired. Heres what my run looked like:

Damn that's moving! 12.5 miles with like a 7 minute or so average pace? I feel like I'm flying when I'm able to hit the 8-8:30 pace, haha. Keep it up you'll have no problem doing a Boston Qualifier.

I'm finding the REAL kicker to be cramping. And from all the reading it appears I'm depleting glycogen too quickly. In my quest to do 21 last week, I started cramping pretty bad around mile 20. Pretty sure my fuel and hydration are good. So I think I'm going to slow down just a tad and see if length/performance improves.

Chris - wondering if you're encountering similar issues on your longer runs, at or near your race pace?

Salt tabs! One or two of those an hour and you'll be good to go. I personally use the Salt Stick brand which you can get at REI. I don't cramp very often, but if I do, as soon as I can get some salt in me, they're gone within a few minutes.

You could also try using Hammer Heed as your sports drink. I rode a rather warm century this summer using that as my sports drink and no cramping at all--compared to prior long distance rides where cramping became a minor/major issue.

Thanks. I ordered the Salt Tabs from Amazon. If they don't have an improvement next week I'll try changing things up again. I usually go through 32 oz of G2 but sodium is only around 400 mg.

13 miler starts in about an hour.

Quick running this morning!

My previous fastest mile was 7:25 for a 1 mile run. (At least while using my Garmin, I ran a sub 7 minute mile for a fitness test, but didn't have my Garmin on me to verify the time/distance, so not counting it)

This morning had to do a 3 mile run, so went out kinda hard, hoping to be in the 8-8:30 pace, which is my harder run pace. First mile ticks at 7:22! I was like holy cow that's my fastest mile! So I just wanted to try to keep up, then mile 2 ticks by at 7:11! I was like how am I going faster?! It was 50 degrees out, which is nice, but just enough to make my lungs burn some from the hard breathing, and my legs are starting to get sore/fatigued from running hard. But I push through for the third mile to tick by at 7:12! So it was under 22 minutes for 3 miles.

My fastest 5k is 27:43 (like 1.5 years ago) and I was on pace to beat that by 5 and a half minutes! Basically run in the morning and it made my whole day better. =]
