People get killed all the time in Missouri from hitting whitetail deer, I can only imagine the carnage from hitting an elk that's easily twice as big.

I may revisit it...pretty much threw that one up there...it was just a basic snapshot driving back down the hill.

Here's another high-elevation themed shot...about 12,000', a mere few miles outside of Estes Park, actually.



Are those elk or mule deer? Just curious.

Elk - cow and a young bull (most likely her offspring). Mule deer have much blunter faces.

Well, in the "strobist" information for that picture above, there is a 580EX II in use, which is highly recommended for camera-top use. Although the lack of optical slave trigger kind of stinks.

Yeah, it was cold as a witch's titty here this morning, too. -6 when I woke up. I actually enjoy it when it's cold like that...not sure why. But plenty of snow yesterday...we got a foot here just east of the foothills.

Damn I'm jealous.

What type of lighting equipment did you use for the shot? I've got 2 ABs at work and I love them but I really need to get some form of soft box for them and maybe a reflector.

I got a couple of 400w/s monolights, pretty much the same type of thing as an AB800 or whatever they're calling them. For this, I shot them through softboxes....carefully placed.

I shot some other "product" stuff that same night, and with shinier stuff I had better luck bouncing light off the white ceiling and walls for even softer light.

Though its not L glass, I think I'd rather have a 17-55
