Yeah that it is. Shot it with the nifty fifty at 1.8 iso 200. It was 2 stops overexposed, one of the first pics I took. I was able to drop the levels a bit in LR3 to recover some. Ill have to keep playing around.
Typically, recovering blown highlights won't result in noise... That comes more from trying to bump up underexposed dark areas. The noise in your shot might have come from either too much sharpening, improper re-sizing, or bad web hosting? Also, the bokeh of the nifty fifty is far from "nifty" but I don't think it would render noise like that.

I like that pic... but I think I might like it better in color. I guess it really depends on if it was cloudy or a cloud free sky... Great pic though.
I really need to take my 100-400L down to the airport and get practice before the Dayton Airshow this year.

I have a stupid question. In order to get more of the shot in focus (along with the front of the truck), I'd need to increase the fstop correct? Like f16 or something?
:EDIT: I almost always shoot in Aperture mode, should I try something else and let the camera take care of aperture(DOF mode perhaps?) I know, complete rube photo questions, lol

The higher the number, the more the aperture blades are closed, the more is in focus, but it also means more light is needed.

And that's when the tripod would come into play that someone (I think Nate) mentioned to me. Thanks for the info bud

Yea man especially at wide focal lengths you are probably fine at f10 or 11, you shouldn't need to go further than that (generally speaking)

I love how close you gotta get to your subject with the 10-22. You think you are close until you look at the liveview

kinda soft on the tire text, which is what stands out most to me. I think if you make that your focus then other parts of the vehicle can be a little soft without being really obvious. fil: your designer buildings pic, break it down for me, pleeeaaase /begs it's hot like fire
The whole image is kinda soft. Duplicate layer > Filter > Other > HighPass > Set for 3-5 pixels > Layer blending mode to Overlay. BAM! Sharper image...
The designer building was only a tweak in contrast, and rotated like 2 degrees to straighten the image out. While taking the double layer bus tour of Hong Kong, I was on the second level (obviously), and I saw the building on the left from a distance, and thought it looked cool in contrast to the rest of the buildings.
I didn't think it was worth taking a picture of while driving towards it, but then when we drove past it, it looked a bit better. So, as the bus is driving away from it, turning a corner, I snapped off 3 photos as the gap between the buildings was closing. This one turned out best in my opinion. The building on the left is actually in the foreground just barely overlapping the building on the right. If you look closely you'll see that none of the balconies are actually hanging out, and that's what's giving it such a straight line.
I actually have another picture I took from years ago that's pretty similar.

I used the live view a few times the last time I was out. 90% of the time it's through the viewfinder. The reason why is I wanted to see how my CPL was fucking up the 10-22 and it's alot easier to make out using live view
I also had a chick with me that day who wanted to take pics.. Live view worked great for her.

Hey man I use live view a lot! Nate ...but you use it while on a tripod when you're manually focusing after zooming into a specific point.
Troof!
BTW those shots all look really good, I especially like the latest one you posted.

Interesting and thanks. Here's the results at pixel size 4.
Why did the color go all crazy? I changed nothing else.

That's been the best single PS tip I've been given yet, instant results!
Duplicate layer > Filter > Other > HighPass > Set for 3-5 pixels > Layer blending mode to Overlay
