My guess is it's flickr. They probably have an optimal size that you should upload that they'll compress "properly", similarly to how Facebook does it.
This is why I refuse to post any of my photos on a photo hosting site because they typically look like shit after they go through their own compressions.

Am I the only one who sees a significant amount of banding in that photo?

I'd like to know the story behind that shot as well.

The site shouldn't render anything differently...the only thing that would affect image rendering would be the host or the browser. But it is only his that has this, so either it is intentional, part of his PP, or his host.
Going back to this in light of the recent salty post, and I'm telling you it's not true. There are other sites for sure and even some other forums that display retina ready images. No image on this site, ever, looks as good as a JPEG I can upload to imgur, let alone what it looks like in PS or LR.
Go to olafphotoblog.com or fujivsfuji.com and tell me photos look the same as they do here.

Am I the only one who sees a significant amount of banding in that photo? Dude... Are you going to point this out in every pic I post? I get it... Something isn't translating from my monitor to clubsi... It is what it is. Wow, wasn't trying to ruffle the panties. I have never noticed the banding before in your shots, I just happen to notice it in this shot.

None of Nate's images have an issue, none of the ones i've posted from my personal site (no compression) have an issue, hence why've i've been asking the question. This is typical of a compression tool when a photo is uploaded to a photo hosting site so I just wanted to call it out and see if that was the case or not.
I'm not trying to bag on anyone or say their photos suck, it's just a general observation. If someone has taken it otherwise, I apologize.

Yeah.. I overreacted a bit there.. Just frustrated trying to figure out why the images are sucking on here..
How are they looking if you click on the links I posted above? No worries.
The first one of the road still has a bit of the grit there, may be because of sharpening, but I can tell you that it is much better looking through that link than the JPEG referenced here.
The one I mentioned banding about, I didn't see it at all on the site.

Still looks terrible, but slightly less so. Smoother, but also fuzzy.

This portrait workshop I'm involved in, you study a photographers work then make an image inspired by them
This is my Karsh inspired image. light on the paper, a light camera right behind him on the hair and shoulder, a light camera right with a 15 degree grid on his face, a light with a bare strip box camera left behind him.
and this is a Skrebneski inspired image. a beauty dish over her, butterfly lighting style. I think there was also a strip light just to her right, at a really low power. I think I left it on though not really aimed or intentionally used. Skrebneski would say that nobody ever told him to hold still, so he made a lot of images with motion blur. I liked that, and the primary image I made was about migraines and pain and my wife, but this and the one I'll post tomorrow were just variations and playing around.
