Nate that app looks absolutely intense! Good luck with it and I can't wait to see some final results. The blur looks so realistic, I just hope the cars don't look superman 4ed on.

ATL got a small taste of snow / ice. My parents live about 150 miles north and got almost a foot of snow in North GA.

got a new lens for christmas. nikkor 70-300mm.. no VR (or IS for you canon guys) and won't auto focus on my D60. (it was a cheap zoom, lol)


needless to say, trying to manual focus, handheld, at 300mm was a challenge.

1/320sec, f/10 is pretty slow for an airplane that "close", but I am familiar with the problem.

I got the Nikkor 70-300mm VR as a gift two weeks ago, and it can be a pain at 300mm as well. A few pics in this thread were taken with it. Try to keep it at 135mm-200mm most of the time. Even more expensive long zooms usually suffer at 300mm. That's why I recommended the 70-200 to Bill. Much more light, same price, same basic usable range.

The VR helps a little at 300mm and I've got used to holding the focus ring so it's doesn't hunt. Just need to practice more with mine. Good luck.

yeah unfortunately i didn't do much research when selecting this lens.. saw a 300 zoom for under $100 and got it. doing a bit of reading afterwards, there aren't too many happy owners of this lens. ahh well, lol, it'll be something to mess with for a little while, and i can always upgrade down the road. i plan on giving my D60 to my gf and getting something that will auto focus this and my 50mm (and other lenses) so we'll see how it does on a more capable body.

Thanks Barker, I am borrowing it while my 28-70 f/2.8 is being repaired. I love the extra little width on the wide angle, contemplating selling mine for this one. Great shot of the puppy. I took this a few years ago of my folks dog. Sometimes their personalities show so great in their faces.

GB, great shot. Where in the NE do you live? I ran through two scoobs in 06 and 08, a BRP 4dr RS and an Aspen white 06 STi, I regret selling that car at least twice a week... :(.

I did get chased out of the woods Sunday, but not by him, but another bull elk. No pictures of that though because I was running away. I ran back about 20 feet and turned and saw that he had stopped, so I started shooting again and he came after me again. For the most part, when they aren't trying to protect their young or defend a harem, charges are mostly bluff - a bull elk is much faster than me through snow and the fairly obnoxious underbrush of dead branches and leaves, and I was much closer to him than the van, so he could have stomped me if he'd really wanted to.

The image above is 98mm on a crop sensor, so essentially 146mm fov. I had gone back to the van and grabbed the D700 with the 85 when I got close enough to piss him off. The most annoying part of the whole thing is that none of the shots with the 85 work.
