Tried it on the D300s before I sold it as well as on my D600...unless it isn't mirror slap and is something else that makes a loud noise, it seems like it is mirror slap.

I need to demount a lens and see exactly what happens because now i'm very curious.

Here's one from last weeks fishing trip. No PS magic either, fish was insanely colourful.

is that the new 16-35/4L IS lens? i was thinking about that one. and are you using the built-in stitching feature or doing it manually? b/c it gets annoying w/ all the distortion going on with wider than 35mm lenses.

but yea...i like stitching shots. it's the poor-man's medium format sensor. also gives it a expansive look w/o the corner stretching of ultra-wides.

Yes that is the new 16-35 f/4. I am still learning stitching and compositing. I used photoshop CC photomerge function, there was a lot more to the image, but i cropped off the excess. so really it ended up looking no like a stitch at all. Oh well...I'll keep trying.

I'm pretty sure what you are hearing is the curtain.

Check out this video of a Sony A900 at 1/8000th second shutter speed. This camera is an older conventional optical viewfinder with the flappy mirror thing. Just imagine if the mirror were locked up and all that would be moving is the curtain behind the mirror and in front of the sensor...

http://youtu.be/pxga4XTGIdU

Even in that slow motion video, you pretty much don't see the sensor. lol I think as the curtain goes up, it only ever exposes a thin horizontal line of light across the sensor. Even mirrorless cameras still have the curtain.

Yep, just verified it is the curtain.

What makes it so loud is that it quickly shuts it, opens/closes for the photo, then opens again to continue Live View.

Mup is a little more efficient at reducing vibrations IMO.

no no...by all means, keep shooting shots that don't look like panoramas. this was a non-pano stitch. shot w/ the 35/2 IS lens. one center landscape frame, then overlaid vertical frames to extend the top, bottom and sides. manually masked/blended to keep distortion in check. of course cropped out the edges. just shoot extra knowing you're going to crop out the edges

if i shot it on an ultrawide, the car would have been way too distorted for my tastes. the distortion on these shots at 17mm bugs the crap out of me...

Volunteered at the only indoor skate park in Alaska this weekend, to get to know the kids a little and to help shoot their yearly concert event. I definitely want to go back, and it's making me want to buy a 10-17 fisheye and a sigma 18-35 f/1.8...

Took the new 35 1.4 out to Trabuco Canyon yesterday after work and shot a couple pics of the new moto. Intended to scout a different area and go a little deeper, but my timing was way off and the light was pretty a-ok when I got into this little area. I really want to do some more scenes back here, am excited to have the bike to make scouting a little easier.
