NIce, your backgrounds have become two thumbs up man. Not distracting at all now

x: I like the monkeys, where was it taken?

An old macro attempt with my Nikon 16-85 and a single SB-900. My old laptop was so far off that I could only make out T-shirt detail in the shadows and the area at the top center of the frame wasn't gray, it was still white! Now I'm looking at it and seeing all kinds of things I don't like.

so yeah, I'm thinking I'd like to try this again with a macro lens, white paper instead of a T-shirt and what I know now about lighting (one, big soft source instead of ~6 flashes with a bare speedlight.

The monkees are awesome.
The deer is so much softer and easier on the eye then earlier images.
The watch is ok but I know a updated shot would be better.
The bike part would be so much better with out the tree.
The camera is nice but what is up with the glass shelf.

I like the use of the tree to frame the rider. Ideally, it's better to see the rider heading towards the viewer rather than away (I took a lot of butt shots of skateboarders before I figured that one out), but I also understand that sometimes the logistics of the place demand otherwise.

The monkeys are awesome.

I dig this. Is it weird that I love the reflection of the lens in the shelf but think the hand reflection should be mostly cropped out (which would then require burning in that bright spot towards the right on the new bottom edge)?

And what the hell, did you use a timer for this? You're finger isn't on the shutter release.

cheers,
scott

thanks - it was a snapshot, so the flaws are due to haste.

I think my thumb is triggering the shutter, but it's obscured by my hand. It actually feels more natural to hit the shutter with your thumb when you're using this camera - hitting with the index finger is awkward.

and I did not even notice the other lens reflection in that seam before you mentioned it!

Thank ya. I took that at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.

That was actually a complete coincidence that the tree framed him in. I was shooting all the guys coming towards me and figured I'd snap one off of my buddy hitting the last jump, I was set up in the middle of the run.

Here's 2 more from that day...

I like this one because I was able to not only get my buddy Brady pulling a big transfer, but also got my friend Hugh in the background pulling a sweet seat grab.

Kyah watching over everyone...

Testing out 82mm CPL handheld. The sun was almost overhead, but I'm not unhappy with the results.

Nice. I've started calling those easter eggs. Just a little something extra in the shot that's not part of the main subject but adds to the experience of people willing to look at the picture for more than a glance.

Actually, I didn't even use LR to edit those. Just messed around with the shadows/highlights, saturation and selective colors in PS.

Scott, yeah man, didn't even realize he was in the background until I got home and started editing it. I was stoked. lol

Thank you! It was a weird day, we were just kinda out on the beach hanging out when these pelicans kept flying over, in an almost bizarrely rigid formation... back and forth, back and forth, for the entire 3-4 hours we were there. I guess they were expecting something that just wasn't coming, heh.

How the hell did you manage to capture that much detail without star trails?

It is funny how much stuff I put up on Flickr that I really don't remember. I don't edit a lot of the stuff I just look for sharpness and basic subject location within the frame and then bam I upload.

Here is an example. Someone suggested I add it to a group. The more I look at the picture the more that I think to myself, "I took that?"

Scott,

I like the tone of your playground picture. The light is very warm and the timing is perfect. It tells a nice story.

14mm - f/2.8 - 30" - ISO2000

I've seen some downright awesome photos of the Milky Way using special tracking systems. You can get 15 minutes of exposure (split up over multiple 30" shots) without any star trails.

no filter on that? wow

attackofthehun-24

I was *so* pissed i fucked this up. cut off the hand, and couldn't get a nice level shot because i was hand-holding pretty much prone/on my stomach on the ground so i could hardly see through the viewfinder.

there's so much I would have done with this, but after seeing the blown setup, i didn't really feel like it anymore. WILL DO AGAIN with some actual purpose next time.
