I agree. I think there is a bit to much expectation of the couch to six pack in 6 month type transformations.

I think some perspective needs to be had as well. This board has some younger guys who have been active/lifting for a while along with a few pretty hardcore dieters and long distance runners so someone will be better at something.

I don't know shit about being over 40, but it is tougher with age and if you're truly busting out 40 mile rides and following up with runs, that's not easy and definitely takes a lot of work and dedication.

All I know is I work my ass off, I think I look pretty damn good, I'm pretty damn strong and I used to be about 50 lbs heavier at my worst.

Bro, do you even pec bounce?

I'm not saying that what you're doing isn't working, or that you haven't made progress. Hell, you can be in pretty good shape and still carry a ton of fat (strongmen do this all the time).

(not sure if srs, but for point of reference, this is what I started with on New Year's 2012 @ 205lbs)

Workout: I bike 75-100 miles per week. Run a couple of 5k+ loops per week--sometimes done after a bike ride. 220 pushups/400 kettlebell swings 2-3 times/week. Over the winter (and sporadically the rest of the year), that's turned into a 40 minute jumprope circuit. Crunch routine 3x/week. Pullup/chinup bar once in awhile. Nautilus circuit once a week when school is in session (because free for faculty).

That's all more orderly than it sounds--I'm just brainstorming what I do. I try to keep things broad.

Oh--and here are legs from a few weeks ago:

Diet--the only macro I (loosely) count is protein. 80-100g/day. Try do do a decent amount of green veg. Limit white flour. Bread is mostly Ezekiel bread, maybe once a day. Some misc. whole wheat/multigrain products (tortillas) here and there, but overall WAY lower carb than I used to be. Cheat on weekends. Not rocket science and not nearly as tight as others here do.

That's because you have serious body image issues. He's 42, and look at his before pictures. Ridiculous.

Very impressive gamby - try to have a thicker skin, though. No use getting bent out of shape because you do not conform to a single message forum poster's ideals.

Keep up the good work.

Awww. \:\)

...and Silock and I are cool. No worries, all.

That said, I'm not done yet. Probably just about at the point where not much else more will happen tho.

The bike racers will be interested in knowing that there is an absolute difference in climbing while carrying 6-7 fewer lbs than last summer, BTW.

Dude you look better than 95% of the 40+ crowd. Keep doing what you're doing man. Seriously, great progress.

I happily wear an extra few pounds because marriage, kids, time, and my love of food. I find as we get older our image matters less, and becomes more about mobility and health.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks--that's pretty much where my mindset is. I firmly believe that if I were even 30 doing this same shit I'd be shredded, but it is what it is.

It's a bitch being a foodie and trying to improve oneself, but it's possible. Thus cheating on the weekends. I'm not willing to sacrifice social life for it.

...and Wolfie--I promise the orange shorts aren't seen in public outside of running in them outdoors. Now, the plaid ones--those qualify as "nicer shorts" as far as I'm concerned.

Just posting up for shits and giggles as tonight was my last day of formal training for the Leadville 100 mile trail run. The race is in two weeks so for that time I'll be cutting way back and resting up mentally and physically. I'm feeling far stronger than I have at any point in the last 4 years that I've been training and racing. So far this year I've ran 1601 miles and 183,000 feet of vertical gain. I figure Im carrying a bit more muscle because of all the climbing, but I weighed in at 156 tonight...which is about what my race weight always ends up being. Either way, this 39 year old body is ready to go. \:D

Mon - Fri = solo
Sat/Sun = solo most of the time, this weekend I had a buddy from TX fly in that does tri's ride with me ;\)

Also, my iphone strava is pretty fucking inacurate. Shows half the elevation gains and usually about .5-1mph slower than a proper garmin \:\| I was also faster than him. Too lazy to upload garmin doe.
