My wife has an iPhone 5c that she has never synched or backed up to iTunes or the cloud. She has manually saved her data via just plugging it into her computer and copying and pasting the files.
Well her screen has died. The phone seems to work (ie power on) but the screen is blank (black) and the touch interface doesn’t work. As it is still under warranty Apple will fix it but she will lose all her data. My guess is they’ll give her a refurbished phone.
Is there any way to retrieve the data?
Whenever you connect the phone to a computer you get the following message on the phone (I’m guessing because it hasn’t synched with iTunes)
In order to access the storage you need to click on “Trust” but since we can't click on it, we can't access the storage.
We can see that the files are all still there
But when going into this folder
All we see is
Any ideas? Apple told my wife of 2 services that she can take the phone to that will retrieve the data and not void warranty, but they warned her they're around $1,000. At that point I might as well just pay to have the screen replaced.

Search for 'iTools' ... I've used it, but the sources always look kinda shady ala malware...

Which "data" is she trying to save? Pics and vids I guess. Yes only pics and vids (not contacts or anything else)
I'll check it out.
Does she have a screen lock/passcode? If so, that needs to be entered before accessing the pictures. Security should the phone be stolen data on the drive still isn't accessible. Just the standard "slide to unlock". No password or number.

^ yup as soon as you plug it in, if you have auto play on, you can export the pics/videos. Or as mentioned iTunes will work too

On Windows 8 I tried all of the AutoPlay options (Ask me, import, open) each one is resulting in the computer not detecting any files
I even tried right clicking on the device and selecting to import

I installed iTunes, plugged in the defective iPhone and got this message
I thought, yes this will help me bypass the prompt on the phone. Clicking "Continue" gave me this window
