What is everyone's plans for 2014?
I just moved down to FL and found out on Feb 22 is an ultra. I did a 50k back in October and want to sign up for the 50 miler here. I figure since it should have no elevation (lol Florida) I should be able to do it. So just this week started training for it, have 14 weeks to train, I think I can do it.
I've been thinking about doing a longer race though. I want to sign up for the UROC 100k I think. Signups start in the new year and it is in September.
I'm sure most of you guys know about UROC, it is a qualifying race for Western States as well. Anyone want to sign up for it? It would be awesome to have some of us go do the same race. I don't think I'm ready to dedicate myself to a 100 miler yet, but I'd love to hit up a Western States qualifier, if anyone is doing any next year. My problem is going to be not having much hills to work on, (again lol Florida) and also these fall races means training through Florida summer, ugh.
If we all sign up for UROC, or something else, that would be cool.
My race schedule is: Feb 22 2014 - Everglades Ultra 50miler Random races up to half-marathon length whenever I find them Debating on another ultra, hopefully a 100k for Western States

Nice. Too bad I came to FL instead of CA. All kinds of awesome runs and races out that way.
As far as I know with UROC it is open to all. According to their registration page: Please note that the Ultra Race of Champions is OPEN to all runners. Elite runners interested in running the Ultra Race of Champions should contact: Gill or Geoff Roes
Registration opened mid-January this year, so expecting the same for next year.
Also, UROC has a 100k, 50k and half-marathon. So we should be able to get people to come and race.

Honestly I didn't check too much into UROC, had no idea it was such a mess this year. I was just looking for a race in the fall to qualify for Western States. I'm not set on what the hell I'm doing. Lol.
There really doesn't seem to be too many ultras down in FL. And there's so little in the area that qualifies for WS100.
Perhaps I'll just go for Leadville in 2014 and go full retard.

So it literally has registration opening at midnight on New Year's. Isn't that kind of a dickish move? Even though I'm on the East coast so it isn't midnight for me, heh.
So who all is in for Leadville? Will have 8 months to train for it so perhaps I can do it. Longest run to date is my 50k, and I'm over 1200 miles on the year. I fell like I'd never be "prepared" but that doesn't mean I couldn't do it.
Wonder how fast registration fills up. The 50k I did filled in like 5 minutes.

Yeah I went looking at the site again. The one section is like 2.5k vert in like a mile, lol. Holy wow! There's a 30 hour cutoff time. It would probably take me 48 hours, lol.
To be honest, I changed my plan of going for another 50k to doing a race weekend (a 5k, 8k, 15k and 13.1) because I felt like I was running too much. Training for a 100 miler would just be that much more. Not sure I'd want to put in the time dedication for it. And now that I'm in FL it will be brutally hot and also completely flat (except for 1 bridge, literally) which will make it very difficult to train for a long distance race.

I'm 99% sure I'm too chicken to do a 100 miler. At least right now. I really do want to do one someday though. I'm just thinking I'd be better off waiting a few years when I have more base mileage. I have ~1500 total miles run, 1200 of that this year. So, yeah, just thinking a few base years would be good. I can work my way up, do some FL no elevation ultras then get to the longer distances.
I have debated on trying to sign up for the Oil Creek 100k next year. That's the race I did the 50k. Then the following year do the 100miler. Use the same race to step it up kind of thing.

If you assholes sign up for Leadville I'll have no choice to also do it. So what's the plan?
