Finally getting into stride with the Si and after a good showing at the Ron Katona Memorial event two weeks prior, I faced a much more full field of STS competitors at the 5th DC Summer Series event on 8/13/06. No changes made to the car as of yet, however I have finally ordered myself a 4pt harness so I can concentrate on driving versus hanging on. Running in the morning again, this time in second heat, so I was able to get in, get my runs, and get out before the heat of the day which was kinda nice. The course this weekend was great, but very unusual in the fact that it went against the grain of the lot for majority of the time (see the video), was different than most any other DC course I've ran, and the minor fact that it was designed by an 8yr old, (Julian Garfield, who PAX'd higher than me in his FJ-B kart) Weather was all you could ask for and more, bright sunshine and mid 80's with low (for MD) humidity.
In STS this weekend, I was worried about 3 cars in particular, the Darren Mass' GSR, the 2.5RS of Eric Gallipo, and Steve Wu's '02 GTI. There was also a well-built (and driven) '90 Jetta GLI present. Pics:

Holy camber gain batman
So anyways, while a very cool course, it was also frustrating. I could not get the car to rotate no matter what I changed. I was running 43.5F/39R for pressures, and it still plowed. Adding in a 1/4 turn to the front shocks helped a little (to a total of 1 full turn), whereas taking out 1/4 made things worse. I had the rear struts up to 1/4 turn from full stiff, and the rear end just stuck, even though two weeks prior that was a recipe for oversteer (esp with those pressures). Not sure what I'm missing beyond driving better, but I still ended up a respectable 6th in class (out of 12) and a whopping 1.85 seconds behind the very quick Darren Mass. I actually had 1 faster run that had a cone called in, but I cant see where I hit it in my video, if assuming it was a bad call I would only have been 1.596 back with a 60.902.

I also ended up a solid mid pack in PAX, 120 out of 248.
I'll have a video whenever google video stops being gay and lets me upload. Great event, next time in DC will be the season end event on October 8th. I ran with another region this past weekend, but thats another story, and will be running at Ripken Stadium this weekend with Autocrossers Inc.
