So the Suzuki has developed this crazy pull to the left and my stability control light is coming on intermittently as well. I have a few ideas of what I can do to try and fix it but barring that I am considering getting something new for commuting. I have finally finished school and got myself a full time job so there is some disposable income finally after having been doing this shit for 8 years.

I want something small and will buy new this time so I can just trade the Suzuki. Not interested in even trying to sell a fucking Suzuki used via Kijiji, fuck that shit. Its just me, not married, no kids. As per my title, slaying cougars never ends up in accidental baby making.

My list so far so I can compare prices etc:
Smart Car
Chevy Spark
Scion IQ (do they still make this?)
Nissan Micra
Kia Rio (not a fan of the new design tho...but whatevs)

No Mini's for me, they are not sub-compacts and I don't want two. My Mini isn't reliable enough to daily drive either (I do 230kms/day now) so that's not an option either.

I've been pretty open about it on here but I was working on attaining my CPA designation. I never attended university after finishing high school, and was a mature student when I did finally start university Sept 2009. I started from first year, full time, and just wrote the CFE a couple of weeks ago. I did do the majority of school full-time, however, there were some bumps in the road.

I am kind of old to be climbing the corporate ladder but better late than never. Doing what I did is finally paying off. I have a good job now, some prospects for the future, but still working on completing the work experience requirements before I am fully designated.

I want a sub-compact because of price, but also because I like small cars. I don't have kids so I really don't need anything big. I'd prefer small and peppy for my daily commute which consists of 90% 401 driving Monday-Friday. I have no debt at the moment but I'd still likely finance whatever it is I buy for as short a period as possible.

I didn't even know they still made these....I always found Honda's to be more expensive with less options. Compared civics to my Protege 5 at the time and obvi I bought the Mazda instead. Same with the Suzuki. My Suzuki was way less than any civic, unless it had 2x the kms and 3x the physical beating.

230kms a day, wtf.

umm no idea. I'd probably keep the suzuki and spend my time looking for another job or relocate walking distance to work instead buying another car.

Does it have to be new new? Buy something a year old and save all those fees, freight etc.

I like the look of the Nissan Micra. I think they are made in Japan as well? Worth a look. Maybe a HRV....only because it rides higher and you can see the further ahead.

230 wow
I do 100km a day and that’s enough

With that kinda mileage I would buy something cheap and disposable. Find a decent km civic or accord (maybe 60k km) in your price range

i took this position because its a good job in the finance branch. It has already opened up a lot of doors for me. The sacrifice is the distance. I live in T.O and work in St. Cats. The morning drive isn't bad at all, its great in fact. 1.hr 10mins from my door to my desk. The drive home, well, thats a diff story. Its 2hrs. St. Cats is a dump, i'd never live there. Perhaps in like Grimsby, Lincoln, Hamilton but thats a long ways away. I wanted this job as a stepping stone, thats it. Hopefully I can move on back to T.O within the next 6-8 months as i've been here since June.

The issue with the Suzuki is two fold. First is this crazy pull out of nowhere. Did and alignment and its still bad. Its not even a pull, its more like a fucking tug! If I get go of the wheel even for a second it car just goes jetting to the left. Its difficult enough to do the kind of kms i'm doing and its even more difficult to literally fight the car the whole way too.
Second is my A/C isn't operating at 100% efficiency. On those really hot days, the a/c just can't keep up. The air is cold but not cold enough. An a/c repair alone could be big money. This is part of my reasoning for a new car. I do like the Suzuki still but being so far away from work, its difficult to have things done. I can't keep telling work "can't come in today, car troubles" it looks bad on me. For the last 10yrs i've been lucky enough to live and work close by. Even when I went to university, i'd park at YD and take the subway. Now i'm 100% reliant on my car so it needs to be in top shape 100% of the time.

yes, if I decide to replace the Suzuki it has to be for something new. First cuz I will just trade the suzuki. Selling it will be way too much work and effort because of what it is. Even if I list it for like $2k, i'll still have lowballers offering me rediclious prices. So fuck that.
2nd, I just want to buy new. I've never bought new and now is the time. If there's issues I can just drop at a dealer, get a loaner and be on my merry way. Joe blow mechanic generally isn't able to offer that service.

If you plan on staying at the job for a short term, for the $$ you're looking at buying a car, why not looking at rent for a year near the St. Kitts surrounding area until you find a job back in the GTA?

You still get the balance of the factory warranty within that period.

230 kms....I agree either Hybrid or just rent out there. Driving in winter storm is going to be FUUUUUUUUUUUn.

Hybrid isn't any better on fuel with highway driving unless its a lot of stop and go.
Used is the only way to go with this kind of mileage one would take a huge hit on a new car when it comes to resale. What he really needs is a diesel.

I like the look of the Nissan Micra. I think they are made in Japan as well? Worth a look. Maybe a HRV....only because it rides higher and you can see the further ahead.

yes, if I decide to replace the Suzuki it has to be for something new.

So your Suzuki either needs new tires or an alignment and you don't need A/C for the next 7-8 months since you will be getting another job here. Drive it...or just tell us you want a new car because you are bored and not because of the job

Also, 3hr+ commuting every day. You better be a CFO or some shit, because fuck that.

$43k - $14k is still $29k a far cry from his list of < $20k cars --

I did not see OP posted less than $20,000 in his original post or thread title

He didn't post it, but the choices he was looking at IMPLIES IT. (re-quoting his list to make it more obvious)

My list so far so I can compare prices etc:

Chevy Spark
Scion IQ (do they still make this?)
Nissan Micra
Kia Rio (not a fan of the new design tho...but wharves)
