Am I retarded? Thinking of selling the S2000 for a new Si..

I just got back from the local Honda dealership where my buddy works (as a tech) and he was showing me the 07 Si Sedan they just got in. I've been thinking about selling my S2000 lately and was trying to figure out what I would get next if I did get rid of it. The more I looked at the Si, the more I liked it so I handed over the keys to my S2000 so they could look it over while I test drove the Si.
My car is a 2001 S2000 with 63K on it. It's white with the red / black interior. I would say it's in as mint of condition as a 5 year old with that many miles can be.
The sticker on the Si was $21,880 and at first they said they would give me $10,500 for my car. I told them that was way too low for my car and after another phone call he said they could do $14K. I said it was still too low, so I left. I was fully intending to do the deal if they could get me in the new car for about $6K on the road, but their 2nd offer was still off almost 4K after TTL are rolled in.
My question is this: Am I retarded for considering trading my S2000 for a civic?

That was a hell of an offer on the S2000. I'm surprised they offered $14k. It looks like trade-in values hover around $14k for Good on KBB, which most dealers will never even come close to on a trade-in. $10k was definitely too low, though.
You'd probably be better off selling it yourself as S2000s still have very good private party values... probably $17k-ish.
As for your question... who knows. Maybe. You'll lose in all performance categories, but you'll have a new car under full warranty. And it's a pretty decent performer, so it won't be utterly disappointing. Should be better in the winter, too.

when I first read 10K I was going say sell it to me.... that is way too low.... but I would guess 15K is about right for that car... can not believe you will get it for 6K difference... but if you can more power to you!

You will not lose in performance other than handling. You can add just an intake, race header, and exhaust and beat an S2000. I say this because I have owned 2 S2000's and raced them. Even when I would race my buddy in his RSX-S he would hang with me no problem, and even start to pull. And when we raced with my first S2K, I had an AEM CAI, Mugen Header, and Spoon Exhaust. Unfortunately bolt ons just don't do much for the already super tuned S2K. So there are my thoughts on this.
A stock S2000 is almost a full two seconds quicker to 60. If that's not a loss, I don't know what is. He never gave any indication he wanted to modify the Si, or that his S2000 was modified either.

An S2000 is not even close to 2 seconds slower 0-60! I'm still saying, even stock for stock they are very comparable. I've owned 2! I'm not picking on one over the other, just stating that if he does get one, all he needs is a few bolt ons and he is right back to where he was.
Faster. I said the S2000 is quicker, not slower.
S2000s regularly test around 5.4 0-60, and the Si usually hits between 7.0 and 7.2... sometimes lower depending on the driver. I've seen some as low as 6.8. So somewhere between 1.4 and 1.8 seconds slower.
I got the chance to drive Mid Ohio's S2000 and my 2006 Si back-to-back... no comparison whatsoever. And they had it fitted with all sorts of safety equipment that my Si lacked.

Okay then why do you own an Si over a S2000 if its soo much faster and better?
to OP If you love the S2000 I would say that your retarded other then that if you want something more daily driver the Si dose look tempting so be cool yie either way you cant go wrong!

Exactly. And for a little compact, it has some quickness to it.
Hell, I can fit 2 full-size suitcases, 2 small suitcases, a 30" dog crate, assorted bags, laptops, and bookbags and still have room for my wife, myself and the dog. I couldn't even do that in my 1998 Civic EX. Honda did a hell of a job with the new trunk. It seems smaller, but more useful.
All that and it's fun as hell to put the accelerator on the floor getting on onramps and the occasional auto-x. I drove about 10 cars before getting the Si, and there hasn't been a day yet that I've regretted the choice. It's the perfect car for my needs.

depends on what you want, I had an s2k, the Si is quick but not fast like the s2k, as far as 4 cyl four doors I like it better than than my old wrx because the build quality is so much better. If you want four doors and Honda quality with vtec fun then no question, but there are quicker 4 cyl 4 drs out there. The new limited wrx sti without the big ass wing is pretty nice, a lot more money but pretty cool.

I'd say no; you did keep your S2000 for several years, and it seems like your reason for changing is that you found a need for a more practical car. The S2000 is pure raw performance, and if you like its high-revving exhilaration, the Si would be a good choice.
Now, what I did is retarded: I bought an '02 S2000, drove it for a little more than a year (about 20k miles), and sold it when I found that I really needed a more practical car for my lifestyle, EATING THE DEPRECIATION big time, even though I sold it to a private party. At least you got more out of the car than I did. Make your choice based on your needs/wants.

If you're retarded, then I'd be retarded for trading in my RX8 i think...
not to say that the RX8 is better or as good as the s2000...but damn I loved that car ;x
If you enjoyed your car for more than 3.5months like I did mine...then I'd say, go for it!

So I'm guessing my stock 2005 Accord EX V6 with the 6-speed manny tranny would crush both cars?
Your funny your car is not even considered in the class and you would get murdered too the weight to power diffrence is too great and to me a V6 FWD sounds soo retarded!

You're funny because you have no idea what you're talking about.
A well-driven 6-speed V6 Accord will pull mid to low 14's in the 96-98mph range. In most races with a new Si it wouldn't have much of a trouble pulling away as they have a lot more power than the Si.
FWD V6's are pretty common and by no means retarded. The only thing retarded is an ignorant reply by an idiot such as yourself.

Not at all...... I just traded in my 03 G35 Coupe (due to poor service from an infiniti dealership), went to my Honda dealer where I have never had poor service. Saw the first Si Sedan they had gotten. Took it for a spin....and was hooked.... am actually having a little more fun with the new 07 Si Sedan. Given the Coupe was the 5 speed auto, but this thing - the Si Sedan - is a blast. The G35 coupe was heavy..so not as tossable....

I think its a good idea, in my opinion, si has better interior, except for the no leather, and the rpm gauge is standard too, i dont like the digital, one thing i dont like about my SI, and no leather bothers me too, cuz im used to it from my cl. and s2k is getting old too, especailly since its been almost 6 years with 60K on yours, s2k just doesnt turns heads anymore. Si is slower but a more everyday car and still hits 8K rpm. I think 14 to 15 K is good for that car, you have to understand that they'll give you less money for your car cause you want to get an SI, atleast thats how it works in NY. And the v6 accord with 6 spd tranny is quick but not that quick, for the price that they get up to, i dont think you get what you pay for. And I dont think the ex accords deserves to be called Luxury. Its a nice car, but no where near lunxury or sport. Si is straight and holds its value, in NY, some used SI are worth just as much or more than a brand new SI. I only waited 3 weeks for my 07, some people wait more than a month.

as far as growing up is concerned...that's usually related to income, when the income grows, upgrade.....the civic si is more functional day to day for a wider variety of tasks, and thinking of this when you purchase a car would make me consider you more "grown up". if i were you, i'd sell the s2000 on my own so the dealer doesn't screw you on trade in value, then screw someone else making money off of them selling it. the reasons I want a new Si are as follows(and i think, grown up, as I am 25):
-as much as i would prefer a used car(for the massive depreciation that occurs in the first 2-3 years), I am a maintenance freak, and unless any car, especially a car like this that is more likely to be abused by someone that is not a mature driver, is cared for properly during it's lifetime then it's not going to last the 175-250k miles that a honda should without serious issues. -I do want something that will provide performance and an exciting drive without requiring frequent and expensive maintenance regularly(i will be performing moderately priced preventative maintenance on my own, so it would simply add to the cost of that) that you would get with something like a bmw m3 or 330i. you can pick up an 03 low mileage 330 for what you pay for an si. -I want a sport interior, seats with good grip(i'd prefer alacantra leather, but again, you have to buy a used 50k sports car like a s4 or m3 to get this), and high bolsters. This is the only car that i know of that provides that for this price. -I do a good bit of interstate and highway travel at 70 mph +. A sixth gear(which you already have) will help save on the gas.
There are some other reasons that i don't remember right now, and i'll fill them in when i do. Honda left a very good impression on me when i was young. My first car was a 2 door acura legend with a five speed manual. I stopped driving that with 268k on the odometer. I stopped driving it because i got a new car, but it was still running fine. My sis has a 95 accord with 170k that's running great.
I could spend the same amount of money and get a used BMW or even an audi S4, but for what i'd spend in maintenance would be absurd. honda=reliable high mileage cars with low maintenance. Civic si=sporty in the ways that matter and cheap. go go gadget civic

1. 0-60 in 5.9 seconds (or better) 2. MSRP ~$26,000 sans Navi (no options available 'cept Navi) 3. Perforated leather interior. Heated seats. XM Sat. Radio. Roof. Traction control. ABS. Electronic Brake Distribution. Security system. Front and side-curtain airbags. All standard. 4. 240 hp, 212lbs. tq. It has 10.0 to 1 compression with a close-ratio six-speed manual trans.
Did I mention that I get 24 city/34 highway on 87 octane?
Sounds to me like it has enough "luxury" for most people. And it has plenty of power to walk your Si (if you have one).
I had a 99 Si. I know how much fun they are to drive. But at some point in your life, you will probably grow up, and the Accord EX V6 6MT is a good compromise for a daily driver.
Having driven the S2000 (20k miles), '03 Accord EX V6 6MT (for 3 years and 70k miles), and now driving the Si (27k miles-to-date), I have to agree with Thom and Monsoon regarding the superficial comments on the Accord EX V6 6MT.
Although it might be considered "just a Honda", and isn't quite as luxurious as a Lexus, the Accord EX V6 6MT is a very comfortable, quiet, and fairly-luxurious and semi-sporty car. The leather wasn't probably the best out there, but the car has dual heated seats, an 8-way power driver's seat, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Moonroof, 6-Disc CD Changer, 180-Watt Stereo with 6 speakers, Remote Windows, Traction Control, etc. It got 240 HP/212 lb-ft of torque with REGULAR 87 octane, and had a bolt-rifle action 6-speed manual transmission, and the engine was was smooth and quiet, but had an aggressive tone when revved high. I averaged 28-29 MPG with 80% highway miles (EPA was 20-30 mpg). I had no problems with the car whatsoever during 70k miles other than a defective radio that was replaced for free (common problem on many '03 Accords at the time). The only thing I felt could have been improved (and most would agree on this) was the sportiness (although it had a "sport-tuned" suspension), but you can't expect the razor-sharp handling of an S2000 or Si from a FWD V6 Accord. However, it was stealthy-quick, cornered without too much body lean, and I felt safer driving the Accord in a heavy rainstorm than both the S2000 and Si. I hardly revved the Accord's engine to VTEC since I would be going way over the speed limit before I even got there.
Until you've thoroughly driven one and felt the quickness and comfort, don't be so quick to say the Accord would get "murdered" in terms of speed, or that it is "nowhere near luxury or sporty".

great points Klutzyfool - you can't expect the razor sharp handling... when I was looking for cars back in late 2002, I had narrowed it down to the 2003 G35 Coupe and a 2003 fully loaded Accord V6 Coupe. Looking back I might have made the wrong choice based upon the dealer's service departments (stick with what you know kind of thing - I have a 2001 Oddessy from this same dealership...and their service had been superb)... But I went with the G35...but even with it I missed the razor sharp handling of a lighter car, that I found in the 07 Si Sedan I got. That is one of the things that jumped out at me on the new Si is the "razor sharp handling" feel...might be the limited slip combined with the front wheel vs. rear wheel in the G. To go along with this thread. If you want to be involved when driving, having fun, "feel" the road, and have that "razor" sharp handling, test drive the Si. And the Si moves. It is not a G, but where are you going to do 155, I had mine up to 120, and you can probably get to that in the Si without an issue.
Oh, yea, and you can do this on 4 cylinders (better mpg) instead of 6, and saving money always feels good, just compounding the fun. Most likely the Accord gets much better mpg than the G35's 3.5 liter V6, but in either case dropping 2 cylinders and remaining NA (as opposed to the Subies and Evos) will definitely give you some better mpg.

the fairly luxurious and semi sporty is keyword, but you're right, I havent driven the 07 accord, i was mainly talking about the 06- models, but mainly still the same. And i hate it when people try to call it a luxury, even when they advertise it becuase im a big fan of the Acura and lexus. Even then, i think some of the Acuras are still low end luxury, but thats just me. Hondas are great cars, but in NY, ive seen accords with all the perforamnce shit in it for like $35Gs, for that much money, id rather get the TL or the IS. even with the accrods 27500 MSRP, the tsx is a better buy, even though its not as quick. Its always a good idea to spend a little bit more to get something you like better. And i did always like the accord before, thought i would always get one someday but now im a big fan of true luxury, And i got the SI cuz i think it looks better than the rsx and always liked the SI name, and its cheap too for what it is. oh yeah, and i love the fact that it takes premium, i enjoy pouring 93 in my SI, and even though my acura cl doesnt require premium, its never seen regular, except for when i got it brand new.

Also, for future reference, putting premium in a car that doesn't require it can actually damage the engine over time by leaving carbon deposits.

Please, define what true luxury means to you. Maybe I should dump my Accord for a car like yours?
Why do you get a chubby on paying for premium gas? If my car has great performance on shit gas, I can save the money for something more important...like tires.
Clearly, you are mildy (if not completely) retarded.
