It's still better than a treadmill and I can always pretend I'm Rocky.

Plus, it's not always shitty, though that definition might be different for someone in California.

I've run two miles total since the weekend. Awesome.

Supposed to run 13 miles tomorrow. I will have to do it in the morning when it is supposed to be about 28 degrees F and before snow potentially comes. Otherwise my wife will be cleaning my blown out brains off of the treadmill sometime on Sunday.

Just looked at a route map and my house is basically mile marker 25 for the local marathon in December. Thinking about throwing up a few dumb signs or something for it.

Forecast of 60 degrees and 90% humidity for the half this Sunday. I will take what I can get.

For the SoCal'ers:

Just did 5.1 miles in the lovely 33 degree evening air. Very still out, so it was actually a nice run.

Sick I did a 5k in the evening for no reason yesterday and I was still sore from tues, the whole thing sucked. Today I did a 5k after a bike commute day (24 miles) and it sucked even worse (just sub 10 min mile pace)

Sometimes I wonder if I'm making any progress. 11 miles jogged for the week m-f (a lot for me) which means a long run this weekend should have me in unexplored territory. I think my knee hurts a little too, trying to ignore it. Fuck

I sometimes gives no fuck about progress. It's just about doing it. 0 degrees, 12k, snow on ground.

What do you guys do to keep your legs warm in < 30 degree temps?

I've got some trips coming up where I'll be stuck for a few days in that temp range, was thinking of getting something like:

Nothing, I just run and sweat. I'll wear track pants down to about 15 or so, lined pants below that. If really cold, thermal underwear.

On topic: Did 45 minutes on the treadmill today, longest streak in a while without going into complete boredom mode.

Off topic: My nearly new Nike Goretex shoes have a creased heel cup from improper summer storage. I can't bend it back out with my fingers. Are they dead?

Half marathon today 1:51. Happy and disappointed with the results. Wanted to break 1:50 and I was on pace until mile 11. Just could not keep it up and slowed a few seconds on those last few miles. Another half in a month so hopefully I can knock a few minutes off.

Man 1:51 is nothing to sneeze at. That's awesome, way to go!

It is much better than my run today, went out to do 21 and ended up cutting it short at 18.67. It was getting hot and my body wasn't in it and stomach was a little upset. By mile 17 I knew it wasn't my day. Sucks only because it was my final long run before the marathon in 3 weeks, but still happy to have done it.

I also picked up a new pair of shoes yesterday, I've run in all 3 iterations of the Brooks Pure Connect's. I wanted something different to try out and bought a pair of Altra Torin's, along with inserts. In the store they felt great, so I'll be trying them out for the first time tomorrow on my 5 miler.

My run today was awful. I either have a pulled groin or my hernia is back. Feels like I have to piss and bouncing hurts my stomach.

I had trouble running much more than a mile without a break. Played hockey last night, so maybe my legs just need a rest. My pace was horrid. 7 miles, over an hour.

Hah on my 'long slow' run, 7 miles in an hour is way faster than I go. My maths suggest 8:30/pace, sheesh, that's tempo-ish for me

Well, Vegas is done. Great course but HOLY CRAP was it crowded. I was a total turtle in traffic until the last three miles. Scored negative splits the last half of the route to boot.

Despite the crowds and nasty headwind, I managed to squeeze out a 1:52:40, averaging 7:50 the last two miles. Looking forward to breaking 1:50 at the New Years Race (6 weeks).

No run this weekend. Woke up stuffy and low energy. That time of year and way too much going on with work to get good rest each night. Need to get back on the train this week.

Congrats. Sounds like the exact opposite of the race I did especially the part about the last 2 miles. The last two of mine I was spent and slowed to 8:40-9:00. Also only 186 finishers and lucky only a slight wind.

Really want to try the vegas half or full one year.

great job man! I think with another year of running I still wont be that fast next year in the completely-uber-flat san jose 1/2.
revised goal: 2H once again [stretch goal: 1:55] \:D

I think I'm getting slower lol. Does anybody know what shin splints feels like? /sidenote

Splints feel like pain the the bone of your shin. Can be a dull ache, can be somewhat sharp too.

I think it's not shin splints I'm feeling. Just calf muscle weakness leaving my body. [calves hurt when running after a speed-work day--something I virtually never do]

Nice job on the weekend races Gents!
I took the first few days of the week off after my 50k, but got in three good 10 milers in the latter half of the week.

Here's a pic from my run this morning:

Cold and rainy today. Decided against running. Later saw two separate (hot) chick track teams (a local HS and Providence College) out running in the rain. Still jumped rope indoors.

That weather seems a little nicer than the 30 degree 4 miles I did today.

Nice work on another beast of a race. [rawlings]Get you some![/rawlings]

Finished my half today, didn't quite meet my stretch goal of 90 mins, but I'm happy where I wound up at 1:36:xx http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/637765685

I started out with the 1:30 pace group, but I could tell by mile 2-2.5ish that it just wasn't going to happen so I dropped off.
Started feeling really terrible around miles 4-5, probably because I started a little faster than I should have, and I was literally in no-man's land with the 1:30 group way ahead and nobody behind for probably 1/3 mile or more.

I tried to keep a quick & steady pace, when a lady came up to pass a little bit later I latched on and held her until mile 10 where she faded. I just held pace through to the end and felt pretty good crossing the finish line.

Overall I'm happy, much better than my last time of 2:03. I think with a few more months training I've got a shot at sub 1:30. \:\)

^sandbagger (j/k, great job)

Few more months of training at that rate of improvement I figure you're looking at the 1:10 range lol

Damn good job man! That's legit fast! You'll be able to hit under 1:30 for sure if you keep up the speedwork.

I want to return my Altra's for a half size bigger, but they seem ok all around. I actually got The One 2's, not the Torin like I had said before. Gonna finish up this month strong and hit 200 miles, which is nuts to me.

Thanks guys, yeah I didn't really get "serious" about training until about 2-3 months back. I think I can start upping the mpw & intensity a little bit at a time from here to make it into 1:30 territory.
