I know a few of you guys are struggling with joint and muscle pain. I recently came across this article that, while almost three years old, has a lot of great exercises for combating mobility issues.

Definitely worth a read:

I know I am late but totally awesome to see Meb win Boston. Saw him talk a few years ago and just seems like a very humble and nice guy and a truly awesome story of immigrating to the U.S. because his family wanted a better life. I know this was something he mentioned while talking so great to see him accomplish it.

Yeah...it was so awesome to be able to follow along. We left the house (where I was watching the coverage on TV) so the kids and I could walk the mile and a half or so down to where we could get a good spot before they turned into Hereford. You could hear the roar of the crowd from way down the road, then the timing/media trucks went by and there goes Meb, hauling ass with the other guy a few seconds back. The next few minutes were freaking nerve wracking waiting to hear if he held him off. Awesome thing to see live!

That's cool you got to be there to see a little bit of history in the making. First win in three decades is definitely noteworthy.

Ran a nice 10.5 miler along the coast tonight. Almost got a sub-8 min/mile average which is a first for me. Feeling pretty good for next week's marathon.

*crosses fingers*

Anyone use calf compression sleeves? I've been getting extra soreness in my lower legs doing speedwork the past few weeks. Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/2XU-Non-Stirrup-Co...ion+calf+sleeve

I have some 2XU sleeves as well as socks. I've worn them both in a few races and didn't find that they did anything noticeable. I do know that they work great for recovery...specifically to reduce the massive swelling I get when I have to drive after a big race.

I use calf sleeves after long runs, typically anything over 10 miles. If it is a 15+ mile run I'll wear them all day, even sleep with them on as they don't bother me. They're great fore recovery, the next day you'll feel basically normal. I have Feetures and CEP.

I want to like calf sleeves but I don't think my Salomon sleeves (on sale!) are compressiony enough.

We have a heat wave hitting us down here this week...should be in the 90's by wednesday. Figured I should just embrace it, lol.

Upped my mid distance weekday run on the trails by a mile and about 500ft of vert. 13 miles and 2400 feet of gain in a hair over 2 hours. It was hot, but I felt decent.

It's supposed to drop to the 70s by Sunday. Don't think I could handle another 90* marathon. \:\(

Not only is that some serious heat but that's serious mileage and vert in awesome time! You're too damn fast lol.

Now that I moved to FL I need to get used to the heat here. I ran on Saturday 9:30am-10:30am and it was brutal. Over 80 and the sun is so fucking direct here it killed me. I only did 6.8 miles but wished within 3 miles I had water with me. Going to take a good while for my body to adjust to this kind of heat.

I'm getting pumped for my ~1.8m jog this evening

[last week was supposed to be my 'knee testing/recovery' week which was a qualified success. Then I skateboarded 4+ miles right after a 5k jog. Then my knee was sore again so I will consider that a setback (?)

re-boot. maybe 7-8 miles this week \:\|
[apologies for noobing up this forum, but whatev! lol]

Well... the OC Marathon got pretty darn hot around 2 hours in. Despite that I managed to shatter my previous PR by nearly 30 minutes.

Final time was 4:10:39. Pretty stoked.

Nice job Kent....I was tracking you online this morning (while laying in bed, lol) and saw that you were at sub 4 pace through the half, but that you'd slowed by the 20 mile marker. Figured it was either hills or the heat...but looks like you were ableto hold it together for a great finish. Nice PR!!!

Thanks man. I really wanted to get under 4 but got woozy/nauseous late in the race. I think it was a combo of heat and training at a much slower pace until very recently.

My goal was to beat my sister's time of 4:31:xx that she had set when she was in college. And I will probably enjoy family bragging rights for years to come.

I don't plan to run another marathon until next year. But I have plenty of other shorter races to keep me busy. :-)

Went after a course record yesterday and missed it by 15 seconds over a 2.9 mile section. \:\(
I think I am going to try again next weekend and approach the section different. I had already ran a 2 mile section with a 1000 foot climb before I even got to the section I was going for. You can access a different route that gives you a 1.5 mile downhill before you get to it.

80-90%. STIFF this morning. But now? Just a little sore in the knees and calves. Walking seems to help a lot.

I'm going a little crazy forcing myself to take it easy.

When I saw the first picture I was like "damn, that's a beautiful mountain scene" and then when I saw the itty bitty Anton in the blue shirt I was like "hoooooly shit, that's awesome and now I want to go for a run"

EDIT: and I ran Collegiate Peaks 25 this Saturday. Didn't taper for it and went in with moderately beat up glutes and hamstrings. Still pushed the effort and ran well enough. First race against/with my girlfriend and I managed to edge her out by ~15 minutes (she still placed 3rd in the F20-29 group) so that made me feel good. Although with 3,000' of vert at 8,000-9,000' and me having the altitude acclimation I was expected to win this round.

Next stop: 50 miles in Virginia in five weeks. She's got heat and humidity for training and it's going to be 36 and snowing here in 3 days. I'm worried about this one.

9 days till Bishop 100k!
Trying to do a full 2 week taper instead of the 1 that I normally do.
Going to try and keep intensity up but volume down.
I went up to SF running company last weekend and was talking to Jorge Maravilla about the course, hes the current CR holder. It was his first 100k and he ran it in 9:40. Beast.
Anyway, weather forecast is showing mid 80's and the course is very very exposed.
Thank god I'll have mr. mom there to rub ice on my nipples.
