To be fair, you're mostly a runner.

I'm doing weights 4 days a week, playing hockey 1-2 times per week, biking 1-2 times per week and running 3-4 times per week. Plus, carrying more pounds around.

What's the term you guys use to feel superior to mere regular "runners"?

Lol there isn't one that I know of. I Didn't mean anything by it....but your comments seemed to be directed more at the other work you do and not the running, and mine were directed to the people complaining of injury/pain due to running.

I think the issues stem more from technique vs. frequency. "Bad" form can make 5 miles feel like 12-15. I've been watching a lot of vids about technique and feel this is another area that can make a huge impact (in addition to muscle reinforcement):

And for the record, I talk a lot about running but I don't really do it often enough to consider it a full time gig. For me it's fun to see the improvements, however slow they are, over time as I get older.

In reality I think triathlons will be my calling long term. The culture is very similar to running; very supportive and inspiring. And I love the variety (despite the crazy training schedule).

yea I'm with you there: just try not to be douchey like me

eg:
in swim practice--dont talk about the run you just did
when biking in a group dont talk about that mornings swim
when running in a group dont talk about the ride you just went on

if you do that's why everybody hates people that do tris. and never talk about your bike

Trail/ultra running community >>>>>>>>Tri community.

Ego is like the 4th leg of triathlon, lol. It's honestly part of the reason Ive given it up. Id go to a race and maybe talk to 1 person in transition. In ultras I meet dozens of people before, during, and after the race.
And nobody is drinking beer at the end of a Tri. \:\(

True on the beer portion.

I got introduced to a few tri folks and it's enough to make me want to continue. But I'm curious if things will get more egotistical as the distances get longer. I got a lot of pointers from some regulars at Solana Beach. Even ran into a coworker lol.

I'm exxagerating a bit, but it definitely gets worse the faster you get, and Ironman racers are some of the worst.

Still plenty of friendly people in the sport though.

Last run was 8 miles at 8:33 average. Probably the fastest average I have done for the that distance.

Tonight will be the first time attempting mile repeats.

You're a solid 1000 miles ahead of me on the year. I'm at...well not sure since Garmin Connect appears to be down, but roughly 1100.

I can hardly imagine running twice what I have, lol. Though, crazy me, my goal next year is 2000 miles and going for 200 this month.

Also, anyone notice this? http://www.trailfilmfest.com/ Seems cool but closest to me is Atlanta, which is way too far.

You can almost all of the films they screen on Vimeo or youtube, but it would be cool to see them on the big screen. Eric had the organizer on URP last week. Sounds like a cool event for sure.

That's how I found out about it, lol. I check URP like every day at work and like listening to the podcasts while running. I find it neat to listen to some guy talk about running 100 miles when I run 5 miles. :P

I also have gotten into listening to audiobooks via Audible while running/riding bike.

That was only 4 miles?! j/k

Yeah, that'll be about 1% of my total. Which probably still makes this above average years for me since most years I only run about 6 months/yr. The feet definitely impacted my ability to make my goals.

We need to find a race we can all do together. Like a 10k trail race in southern Oregon.
