This is why I can never say no to office pools, you just never know when you get lucky.
yup, and you don't want to be the one left out...

i'm ok with office pools winning. it's when a single undeserving bastard wins is when i get upset.
Aren't they all undeserving? What makes an office pool more deserving to win than a single winner?
It's a lottery, nobody really deserves to win, it's just the luck of the draw.

I never play the lottery, but for office pools I've started making exceptions. I can't imagine the hulk rage I would go through if I didn't play and the office won. I am positive I will never win office pool or not, but i sleep better at night knowing I won't go batsh!t insane.
My boss is a champ though, no matter what the office pool is he always buys 10x more tickets than anyone so that no one wins a big enough jackpot and quits, hahahahaha.

in a sense we are all undeserving.
but i'd feel better when money goes to the low paid hard working single parent with lots of children and diseases rather than to someone currently wealthy.

This is why I can never say no to office pools, you just never know when you get lucky. +1 I don't want to be the guy who didn't play and has to come to work the next day and hear the other celebrate. FWIW, our office pool normally has 40-60 players in it.
Thats a huge pool, if you win you still get something regardless of how big the pot is. At least your not the jackass that said no and is left in the corner to watch the others celebrate.

Heard this morning that the money is on hold because some other people came forward wanting piece.
They're probably claiming that they put money in the pool weeks/months prior and should be included by default.

I'm bet that most of the new claimants were on vacation over the holidays and didn't get a chance to play since they weren't in the office.
or they had winnings from previous week that was used to buy the tickets, and these noobs probably didn't keep track of which tickets were the ones bought with previous winnings.
at my office pool we have it all seperated for such situations (when new ppl join in or when ppl leave).

Same. Its just insurance that those bastards can't all just ditch me there. Plus, its fun to dream for a day or two about what it would be like to have lottery money.
