Bought a RWD Sport rear swaybar. For some reason, in the AWD G35's, they use a much smaller rear sway and a bigger front bar so you get more understeer. Lots of guys have been using the RWD bars and they say it's really makes the car neutral.

RWD sway: front 26.8mm, rear 24.4mm
AWD sway: front 31.7mm, rear 17.7mm

cliff st-clair is going to tell you that you're ruining the handling, since the manufacture knows best.

Used. Took me forever to find a FS post and shitty G forums won't let me post in any FS threads until I have 100 posts. Unlike here, there really isn't any need to post in the forums. I even PM'ed a mod and told him I'd been here for 5 months and asked him to give me permission to post a wanted add....he said no.

At any rate, I'm pretty impressed with the handling of this car once I got some sticky rubber. Just has a bit of understeer and since the RWD cars are known for oversteer, this should be a very neutral car.

Just wish I could find 50 more hp.

I'd suggest a motor-swap.
that should get you the 50hp you need.

Good find on the ARB. 7mm is significant.
I'm sure you'll notice a huge change.

The reason why sway bars are as they are between rwd and awd chassis, is probably because the spring rates are different as well.

So hows the bar working out? Not sure how much they are going for used, but if it's as big of a hassle as you mentioned, I might just pick up a new one.

Do you have to get RWD end links or bushings, etc. in order for the bar to fit on the AWD cars?

It's not here yet and the moron shipped it UPS instead of USPS like I'd asked, so I'm sure I'll miss delivery and end up with another $50 worth of bullshit charges...

Used, they are maybe $50+shipping. I paid $120 shipped which is a bit of a premium because a lot of guys aren't willing to ship to Canada. If he's on the G35driver forums, you can post a wanted add and get a quick result, but since I lurk they won't let me post anything in the classified adds until I have 100 posts.

The only thing you need is the right sized bushings for the body . The G35X rear is the same as the RWD cars so the rest will fit. Supposed to be a 30 minute swap...

Thanks for the info!

I think a new one is ~$145 shipped, but I'll definitely look for a used one first.

I've searched and gone through a ton of posts with no real answers, so I'm assuming you'll know: most have said that the G35/G37 bars are interchangeable, as are the bars between coupe/sedan...I guess my real question is, which one is the "best" to get? I'm assuming the G35 Sedan Sport RWD is the one I should be looking for? I don't know what size the rest of them are in comparison.

All info is here:

http://g35driver.com/forums/v36-brakes-suspension-wheels-tires/323341-g35x-awd-sway-bar-sizing.html

I think all RWD V36 sedans use the same swaybar, including the G37 - but it's not exactly rock solid evidence. i.e. one guy says he has a G37 bar on his G35X and said it was the same as a RWD G35 bar for diameter.

Here's the difference:

To R&R, the best thing it to drop the exhaust from near the swaybar and from the back of the mufflers (keep the rear most muffler hangers on) . Then it's just the 2 nuts each bracket and one nut on the swaybar end link.

Took me about an hour - but some of that was trying to get it to work without touching the exhaust hanger - because I hate trying to get those unhooked.

So my initial impressions are definitely more balance. It's tough to unsettle this car and it sticks quite good, but it seems to have helped with the front tire "scrub" you get with understeer. I just roll on the throttle and it just keeps sticking.

I also just ordered a K&N Typhoon system. I'm due to make some noise.

exhaust hangers are easy. just spray some wd40 on it and you are good to go.

I did that. It's the fact that they are opposing directions on the dual pipes and very short hangers. Took an 18" bar to get them off. Even once you would get it 90% off, they would slide back on.

If the hammer was close by, I was going to get a block and just hammer on them until they popped. The muffler hangers were cake, just the mid pipe that sucks since they are opposing, short and about 12" apart.

So here is my tale of the most difficult swaybar install in history:

It was a bright and sunny Saturday morning. I get the car up on ramps and proceeded to get all 6 sway bar nuts off. I unbolt the 4 exhaust hangers and wiggle the stock, ridiculously skinny sway bar out from underneath the car in record time. New bar goes in almost as easy, but required a bit more wiggling given the increased diameter of the bar in general. The bushings are on and everything is torqued down and ready to go...then I go to tighten the final remaining exhaust hanger nut and I SNAP THE DAMN BOLT!!! Hulk rage ensues After cursing myself for breaking my brothers car for a second time (more on that later), I quickly map out a plan of attack.

After making two frustratingly long trips to obtain my assortment of drill bits, power drill, new nut/bolt, etc. from various locations, I begin to drill out the broken bolt. 4 hours later I have the new stainless hardware ***ballin!*** mounted and we're back in business. Just when it couldn't get any worse, I send my brother out to check out the new handling and when he gets back I ask how it went and he goes "Meh...I couldn't really notice a difference." FML!

After a test drive of my own though, I immediately noticed the difference. Although the rear of the car felt slightly firmer than before, it stayed much flater around corners and the car felt much more confident and composed in general. The only problem now is that the front kinda feels a bit more sloppy and disconnected as a result, which maybe a strut tower bar would fix...???

Either way, I swear this car hates me. The last time I went to do a simple job on it, was for a transfer case fluid change. While trying to clean the drain bolt, I dropped it and shattered the magnet on the end of it leaving the car useless for a week Anyway I think the sway bar was a great fairly cheap mod, but I look forward to never working on this car again for fear of breaking something way more expensive

That sucks. I can not stand working on cars and having shit go wrong.

It's tough for people to notice the difference with a swaybar mod, because you have to be at 100% to notice. I simply found less understeer and less tire scrub. It's nothing magical, but I can roll on the throttle in a steady turn and it just keeps sticking - beyond the point I'd expect. Having sticky summer tires does help me too.

Rear swaybar is one of the more noticible suspension mods you can do (especially for a "softer car" such as the G sedan)

I remember when I had a TSX I couldn't believe how much better the car felt when I added the bar.
