As long as you're in a deficit, it doesn't matter. Exactly. No matter how you break your Macros down you need to be in a deficit, it's just that for some people like me it's a helluva lot easier mentally and physically to run a deficit when eating your calories from fat and protein versus doing it by restricting carbs and/or fat.
As long as you stay in calorie deficit, play around with eating however you want and find what works for you all around.

I've been doing low carb (less than 20 per day) since November. It took me from then until the second week of February to drop 60 lbs. I'm hovering around the 65lb mark now, but I had major spinal surgery last month and just now cleared to get back to light workouts.
I only did high protein the first 3 weeks or so while my body adjusted. After that, I lowered my protein down a little bit and upped the fat. My calories are usually 5% from carbs, 35% from protein, and 60% from fat. sometimes a little higher on protein and lower on fat, but that's what I try and shoot for.
I had my first cheat since starting on Saturday night. I ate my grilled chicken on a bun and had a few fries. Luckily, it didn't cause me any issue and still had a loss for the day and was back to normal Sunday. I don't eat a bunch of small meals as I'm not hungry for them. My hunger put me into a sort of intermittent fasting type schedule. I eat lunch at 11/11:30, and then dinner usually around 7:30. The "diet"/way of eating has taken away all my cravings for sweets and snacks, and I'm generally not hungry in between meals. I've been eating on that schedule since about 2-3 weeks in. It works for me - may not work for you.
Good luck - and I hope your back gets better. I know first hand how much lower back pain sucks.

Down 5 lbs in a week of doing this. I had some strong coffee for breakfast and am pretty jittery right now, but other than that I have been feeling pretty good. Less caffeine in the future, for sure

I spoke too soon. I hit a wall today and have been dragging. Hopefully just a temporary side effect from the caffeine.
I like your attitude, keep with it!

It gets MUCH easier.
I'm not expert by any means but something I read and did when I first started experimenting with this way of eating is to take in over maintenance calories at first with the extra calories coming from healthy fats (natural peanut butter for instance). In theory, this tells your body 'you ain't getting no carbs but here's a bunch of fat, start using it'. It sure makes the transition to this way of eating easier. After a few days to a week, drop back below maintenance and you should be golden.

I'm dying here with this low carb thing. I'm at the end of day............... 1. Shit
Stay strong! Eat meat and peanut butter to get your mind right. Not at the same time, though. It took me about a week and then this is just part of my routine now. Carbs are going to entice you, but you can resist.

How many calories are you eating per day? I am often hungry, but I am only eating 1200 or so. Are you eating enough fat and vegetables? Those will help you feel full.

I completely lost my apetite on low carb. If you were working out a lot, that may have been why you were more hungry.
As far as the peanut butter goes - make sure you are getting a natural peanut butter or check the label - a lot of pb has quite a bit of sugar added in, and if you're really being strict, you want to avoid that. If the oily kind grosses you out, Jiff makes one called "Simply Jiff" (I think) that has very little added sugar
Adding extra good fats will help keep you feeling full longer. Get slightly fattier ground beef (we do 80/20), ribeye or NY strip instead of sirloin steaks, and chicken breast/thighs with the skin on. Use olive oil in your cooking. If you like flax, add some of that in. I have a great recipe for a flax "muffin" for breakfast that leaves me EXTREMELY full until well after I'd normally eat lunch..usally until dinner.

What Krys said is great advice about the various types of meats to eat.
If it helps, I lost %2 bodyfat eating this basic layout for 2 straight weeks last fall. When I want to lose a little slower for a longer period of time I'd still eat about the same except add in more olive oil and avocado/guacamole to the various meals. You subtract your fiber total from your daily carb total if you want your true carb count.

That sample menu looks really good. The only thing I'd put a caution next to is the bacon - make sure that if you plan to have some, that you check the label. You don't want to do a maple or brown sugar..tons of added sugars in those along with a higher carb count. The same things goes with all processed meats (sausage, pepperoni, bacon, and lunch/deli meats) - just because it's "meat" doesn't mean 0 carbs. Even chicken - sometimes it's injected with different solutions (usually water, sugar, salt, and chicken broth/stock)..it'll say on the package. Gotta pay attention!
I'll post the flax muffin in case anyone wants to give it a try. I really like it.
In a microwave safe bowl (like a cereal bowl), add 1tbsp melter butter (you can also use olive oil or coconut oil), 1/4cup ground flaxseed, 1/2tsp baking powder, 1 egg, 1-2tsp of your sweetner of choice, 1/2tsp vanilla extract, and a nice shake of cinnamon (I don't measure the cinnamon...I go by smell lol). Mix all this up, and microwave for 90 seconds. Easy peasy muffin in a snap. I like to add in some fresh cut up blackberries to mine (usually 4). It's super good. If you have any sugar free syrups (I use DaVinci French Vanilla), a few pumps of those are great in here as well. I usually put 2.

I know. I wasn't meaning for it to sound like I was replying directly to him. I was more commenting on his menu and adding a note for the people that were asking questions

I knew what you meant :-)
I used to buy these bags of Tyson hot wings from Sams Club with 1g carb per serving. One day they have some kind of bbq flavor wings that had like 13g per serving instead. It kinda sucks to be that concerned with carbs but it's hard to ignore the results of eating that way.

Strict diet over today! Had a banana and Kashi whole grain honey puffs for breakfast, man did I miss cereal.
Went from 143.6 a month ago to 132 today. The diet is really easy to follow and after a week it barely even thought about it. As long as you avoid the temptations you'll be golden.
