I like mississauga. I also think the Ghetto areas aren't ghetto because they are dangerous but rather just less desirable. The intersection of Hurontario and Dundas is not that nice to live (in terms of desirability)

I fucking *love* Erin Mills. I grew up here till I went to college in the states and I moved to Guelph when I graduated and I fucking hated Guelph, but had a family there. I convinced the ex-wife to agree to buy a house in Toronto near where my mom's families are and near the Italian community. She was okay with the idea especially we were into Salsa dancing at the time and there were a few good clubs near by. We were near St.Clair, little Italy and it was great, everything was w/in walking distance and I didnt have to drive the car at all.
Up until my marriage was in shambles, I lost the house and pretty much everything I had. I paid a good chunk to the penalty fees to the bank and moved back home. The saddest thing is, when I moved back home - I had NOTHING and I only had my Neon. Fuck her, she took everything.
Now? Im trying to provide a healthy life style for my son - similar to what I had when I was a child growing up in Erin Mills. I thought it was pretty positive and it felt good to grow up in Erin Mills. I want to provide that for my son and I just happen to know it's the best for him. He's a great kid, extremely smart for his age and he's in grade 2, but takes grade 3 math.
Anyway, the 2 houses I saw this afternoon. The one w/ a pool - OMG the pool is freaking HUGE but the inside of the house is fugly as shit and needs a whole new kitchen for sure.
The other one that's very heavily run down and everything to do with the house needs attention - you name it, roof, doors, windows, hvac, wiring, driveway, fencing, kitchen, flooring, bathrooms, garage, wet basement and it was fucking run down. I'd be looking at about another 120 to 150k worth of repairs to the house but they're asking 310 for a very small detached house w/ single car garage and with a deep lot backyard (disgusting backyard). The neighbourhood the house is in is very nice and the park is practically 10 houses down. Im going to put in an offer tonight on that run down house for 295 with no conditions and an attractive deposit ready to be paid within 24 hours upon agreement to the offer.
*fingers crossed*
Like I said, Im not doing this for myself for the materialism/baller status, Im doing this to provide a better life for my boy.

the wife and I bought our starter condo in sauga after we got married almost 4 years ago. Started looking for an upgrade last year and Mississauga was so damn expensive! So we looked west and got us a nice brand new 2000+ sq ft detached in Milton for the price of a really nice townhouse/decent semi in sauga... ridiculous. Sold the condo for a tidy profit and now banking coin in Markham til our house is ready in May.
I was born and raised in Mississauga, but I must say I have a new appreciation for it once I moved out here in Markham... I'll take sauga any day of the week over this place!
Milton is nice but quiet and FAAAAR! But Im pretty sure I know where you work and that location is good. My buddy works at the same place and he just moved into his new milton house last week.

c2k, are you sure you want to move in to place and still have to spend 120 - 150k in upgrades, the time it takes to complete, and to have to live there during renos.
Good luck.
I plan on doing just about everything except for hvac, wet basement, garage, electrical, windows and *MAYBE* roofing if I can get my buddies to help me.
I did my parents kitchen and it took me 6 weekends to do it, only thing I didnt do was the counter top as my dad wanted granite.

So how the fuck are you going to do 150k worth of renos? You do realize that "wet basement" is probably going to require you to dig around the entire house and waterproof and parge the foundation? That in itself is a huge job, then the rest is another cluster fuck.
read what I said above

Im not doing the wet basement issue.
