I know this may sound strange, but is it even possible to have a honda dealer work something out with Honda Corp to have one of these imported?

And if not, does anyone know what the proper procedures are to import cars to the USA on a consumer basis?

I've been searching the web for the past week but I haven't come across any useful information.

Thanks in advance.

I see... So theoretically the car would be purchased there and then more or less privately shipped to a port here on the west coast right?

you can purchase one and import it but you cannot register it to drive unless you supply them with a couple more for crash tests and change everything to meet the U.S. emissions standards

You guys, thanks a LOT for the information, it's helped a lot. Zachys, Again I'm sorry if this should be common knowledge, but where can you order the type R parts to "build" your own? Is it possible to get them from Honda or does it have to be from another source?

What would you say was the total cost of the re build including the lower model sedan?

Again thanks a lot for the information!!

I dont even want to guess at the cost lol...way too much
as for the parts, this one i heard was done in the Philippines and the guy worked for Honda. I also heard the serial numbers on the parts are not real...I dont know, just passing along what I read

Why bother? You end up with a Honda Civic SI with the Type "R" badge, not much more in power and thousands more Okani in cost.

its a little bit different to actually have the car instead of putting a fake badge on a car.

J's Garage can get you one...

Check out the link...
2007 Honda Civic Type R

I did the conversion from Yen to Us Dollars & it's about $26k to bring the R here.
But I'm sure from what the other poster wrote you would have to spend more money to legally be able
to register it and drive it here.

It's such a shame that American Honda will never bring this beauty of a car to the US.
I drive the G37S now but I would jump on a Civic Type R with out hesitation!

Keep looking thru the site and you will also find the GTR

LoL. just the front end conversion will cost around 4K if not more.. you will need new lights, fenders, grills, sidemarkers, bumber. Then you have the sideskirts, wing, rear bumber. and if you want the rear lights, you will need to buy a new trunk too.. Then paint and labor.. you figure it out!

Look i just noticed, the 4th picture up from the bottom, it's automatic and the gauge cluster looks blue like from a regular civic. I don't know if they converted it later but that's probably what this person did.

the labor cost in some country is so very less expensive, comparing with the US it may take over the 50% of new car and also how can we buy the type R part for the real not fake? and how much it would cost you? if we order from japan.

You can, but it costs a ton of money. Insurance will be sky high too.

You can purchase a CTR for about $35,000 after tax, getting it shipped to the states depends on where you live (ports in california vs. shipping it across state lines), but it probably won't cost less than $5,000. That's commercial shipping costs, but that's taking advantage of economies of scale. Expect to pay twice that. Then you have to get it registered, smogged, and insured. That's going to be a grip of money.

People do VIN swaps or simply misrepresent the car with older Civics, Integras, and Sylvias, but keep in mind that pouring that much money into this car and not having it properly insured will kill you if something happens to it.

You're better off, like most people have said, just building your own. You will need:

Civic Si
K20a motor + Transmission
Recaro seats
Type-R sway bars and upper control arms
Brembo big brake kit
Type-R rims

Those are the major upgrades I can think of that really matter, and can actually be done with minimal cost. You save yourself some money with the K20 swap because you can just sell your K20Z3. Difference of about $2000 though after install. When it comes to suspension, you're better off getting a high end suspension for about the same price as the CTR suspension, with the added bonus of having adjustable height and dampening.

If you're a Honda fanboy (nothing wrong with that...), just buy a used Integra Type-R and swap a K20. Trust me, you're going to have just as much fun as if you had the CTR, if not more.
