also, if that 5%-ish hp reduction (after tunes, mind you) from having 91 octane vs. 93 played that big of a roll, then why do track-prepped crx's pass various makes and models of porsches, etc etc? let's think about that for a sec because
a) cali models only differed in emissions equipment, not suspension
b) that's all driver, invalidating your stupid ass wannabe point anyway
c) none of us run stock anyway, so most of those cali-specific cripplebits you're referring to are probably long gone.

you just consistently make the stupidest arguments. come on now, try harder.

All the miatas I saw in CA when I lived there were in the 180-220 whp range and half of those guys had illegal setups that had to be switched back to stock once a year. I was already dynoing more than that on the old turbo/engine/12psi. I never saw any 300 or higher hp miatas in CA. They probably exist, but I never saw or heard of any. It is just too much of a hassle.

You may not be aware of what a giant restriction it is due to living there, but it does make a difference. If you want to run more than an intake filter and a muffler as mods, it is a big hassle there.

Oxygenated 91 makes a big difference in tuning unless you are running an extremely weak tune.

But none of this has anything to do with your retarded friend.

you know, those of use who want to run setups that would require 10 hours to remove, once a year (actually every two years but who's counting?), will simply find a way around that.

i see plenty of decently quick sti's coming out of cali. it really doesn't seem to be stopping us. also, your bragging rights tunes are all going to be on 104+ octane anyway.

Us in Cali know that if you want an illegal setup, pretty much any smog shop will pass your car for the right $$. But we also know that Florida is waay better than Cali. It must be fun with all those STRAIGHT, zero elevation, roads to test your handles on!

First off: "test your handles on!"

You're fucking retarded.

Also, what do you know about handling? Your car is as numb as a 92' Buick. Please name ONE proper hardcore sports car that you have owned. Also, those of us that don't like to break the law or endanger others, keep any sort of driving that would push the extremely high limits of our car's handling capability on the track.

Wait, what do you know about proper cars that have extremely high capability of handling well? NOTHING.

Anyways, prepare to die in a crossfire for asserting that CA > FL in a thread beerslurpy is posting in.

(yes I used crossfire to note beerslurpy's politcal rants and gun obsession. king of puns, right here)

RX7? My Si got auto-xed regularly. I put 50+ laps in a Nascar late-model (yes, Nascar's pull 2+g's) at Irwindale Speedway, I do Dromo1 karts 3-4 times a year, I do 4 hour go-kart endurance races at Apex in Lake Perris every other year or so. I know more about sports & race cars than probably any single one of you. Fuck, I even sponsor a Quarter Midget with Amsoil, Drake "the wild dog" Drollinger.

and "test your handles on" was an obvious jab at lame slang that you guys use.

The RX-7 is not a sports car. How long ago and what model?

Please prove your badass racer status.

Remember, you made fun of Skierd earlier in this thread for owning a kart.

You can't even define a sports car.

I did NOT make fun of him for owning a kart, I made fun of it being 10 years old, but said in all honesty I give him props for owning a kart at all and getting out and racing it.

If you think an RX7 of ANY generation is NOT a sports car, you need to re-read the definition of sports car.

I'm pretty sure a sports car doesn't have a roof and is designed that way (no chops). The RX-7 is a grand touring car. Your all-motor FC RX-7 was not a sports car.

hahaha, no roof????? So then a Ferrari F40 is NOT a sports car?????? Porsche 911 isn't either? I better call the SCCA and tell them it's not "Sports car racing" it's GRAND TOURING car racing!!!!!

You don't understand. You covet and narrow what a "sports" car is. My definition is one of a purist.

A Miata is a sports car. A 997 Porsche 911TT is not.

This argument has been played out before. You still haven't OWNED a proper sports car.

You sir, are a complete moron.

Quote:
A sports car is a type of automobile designed for sporting performance. While opinions differ as to the exact definition, most sports cars have two seats and two doors, and are designed to excel at a combination of acceleration, top speed, braking, and maneuverability. Great emphasis is often placed on handling—the ability of the car to remain in the control of the driver under challenging condition such as when the car's tires begin to lose their grip on corners.

NOTHING in there about a lack of roof. You're dumber than my Harbor Freight tool bag!

it's been picked apart, parsed, reparsed, and picked apart again. the SvA accepted definition of sports car is anything with 4(ish) wheels, no solid fixed roof, a manual trans, that drives the rear wheels. in short, a roadster.

rx7 is a gt car. that doesn't demean it at all though. it's still one of the best handling, COMMONLY AVAILABLE AT TIME OF SALE, bone stock cars to ever be produced.

If you had some sort of formal education you'd understand the importance of credibility, also how an opinion can differ.

Also, you looked up sports car on the internet. I thought you didn't care?

(You honestly think I nit-pick over the definition of a sports car?)

If it weren't for CJ (I know at least a couple people in this thread will remember him), this would be the saddest shit ever.

Dude, you're nearly fucking 40. Either get out of here and get on with life, or drive that shitbox into volcano and end it all. Whichever you decide, just do it now.

A sports car has to reflect a series of decisions that consistently put performance ahead of comfort/hauling/utility. This has to be evident from the beginning- making a pickup truck handle and accelerate well doesn't make it a sports car. Obviously there is a lot of overlap where fast non-sports cars and slow sports cars overlap. I dont care if it has a roof or not. A porsche 911 turbo is a fucking sports car. And a hardtop miata would still be a sports car.

Anyway, I would not classify the Q45 as a sports car because:
-it is a giant land barge, 3900 lbs
-it seats 5
-it seats probably 7 if you include the trunk, 9 if the trunk passengers are dead hookers
-front heavy
-horsepowers not found- 266 crank hp is fast in a miata, not so much in your car (anyone have dyno numbers from a 1998 Q45?)
-brakes are huge by 2000 lb car standards, tiny by 4000 lb car standards

Anyway, the car isn't a sports car any more than the titanic was a speedboat.

Sorry dude, RX7 is a sports car. It was designed from the ground up to go fast around a course or through the twisties. It is not much more practical than a miata or MR2. In fact, there is a lot of parts commonality between the different years of miata and RX-7.

RX7 is a sports car. I usually hold true to the droptop requirment, but the RX7 is certainly an exception.

The F40 is NOT a sports car.
