I think the cabbies are too greedy. that's why they scam ppl on rides etc. if you think they have a lot of rules and regulations here they should see what kind of stipulations are put on new york cab drivers. their licencing and insurance is even harder to get and 10x easier to loose.

The only way to fix it is not to regulate Uber but to regulate the taxi licences properly. Specifically: stop the price gouging on the licences!

Better yet: Get rid of licences altogether! Just get some regulations to make sure everyone is on the same playing field but remove the ridiculous overpriced controlled by a Monopoly licence scheme.

That doesn't solve anything. Someone else will start up Rebu or some other service and it will be the same thing all over again. We have laws in place to protect the taxi market, they should be enforced.

Unfair regulation is tho, either regulate all (uber and taxi) or completely deregulate everything and don't force cabbies to pay for licensing/misc fees.

Getting rid of the license just means lower city revenue...

1 - Business model Taxi = Buy expensive licence, work for local company which makes most of the profits and the driver pays most of the cost.
2 - Business model Driver = Be independant and use an App to get customers and get paid. You pay a fee and provide your own car but you don't need a $250,000 Taxi licence.
