New drive clean test?

So it looks like we have to do an OBD test now rather than the current tailpipe sniff. This is going to suck for the Collola we have that has a check engine light on.

Act fast on Drive Clean loophole

imo its easier to keep everything happy with just an odb scan. You cant fake a tailpipe reading.... ah well good for modded cars with happy oem computers.
not so much if you are running an aftermarket computer.

They need to ditch this scam already.

Re: New drive clean test?

I've been reading that the OBD scan is going to be a bit PITA. I don't know a ton about the systems, but it appears they're pretty damn intelligent, and passing won't be as easy as hitting the "reset codes" button on your scanner and driving into the facility:

http://www.wheels.ca/news/get-cracking-on-e-test-to-avoid-a-retest/

 Quote:
Further, the new test checks the status of the self-tests, also known as monitors. If the monitor self-tests haven’t been successfully completed, a Drive Clean fail will ensue. Erasing the on-board computer memory with a scan tool or by disconnecting the battery will clear all the monitors and again yield an automatic Drive Clean failure.

Once cleared, it could take two to four days of combined city and highway driving to allow the monitors to complete self-tests on most well-running vehicles. So, don’t wait until the last moment to get your car e-tested. Should your vehicle fail, it may take several days to complete the necessary repairs and get the monitors ready for a retest.

Sounds like someone can make some good money learning how to, ahem, handle OBD-II systems from their garage. ;\)

Re: New drive clean test?

as long as youve been driving around with the cel off for a while itll be fine.

also other ways to see the readiness. Some scanners do it.

torque can do it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPMwr2730JA

and its not all that hard to make those things happy ;\)

Re: New drive clean test?

Such a bullshit system. One issue I have is most vehicles have a 2-trip logic system, meaning it has to see the same issue twice before triggering a hard code. Apparently the drive clean test will flag rediness or soft codes. Even if there isn't a faulty componant you could still fail.

This will be interesting seeing that I've got zero emissions shit on the car

I'm sure my tuner can fool all the monitors though.

W T F...does this mean they are going to hook up the OBD on my 335d? THAT'S AWESOME!!!

There's a local tuner in Oakville that does ECU tunes and he can also ditch the DEF system...oh yeah!!!

Not all locations are doing the new test yet. AND if the car is older than 97 itll go on the rollers.

and for the millionth time to the k pro homers
The KPro does not change the OBDII scan protocol

Truck was a 2007 and its funny we went to 3 different locations to get the test done as some of them couldn't get the truck on the rollers with the NG tank under the rear and with the truck loaded down with tools. 2 were CT locations the other was an independent place.

Article doesn't say that at all.

Fact is: Jan 1, 2013 the roller test is dead.

Nope, two speed idle test for you! It really doesn't matter though, I talked to my tuner today and he actually laughed I did a readiness test with Torque on my phone, car passes everything (except the gasser shit obviously)

at least that shit gone done quicker than the roller test, but it doesn't tell you how poorly your car maybe doing - just a simple pass / fail.

Nice

transmission shouldnt trip a fail it has nothing to do with the test.
