Was heading to the ALMS race the day before the Long Beach GP and some douche-bag turned left in front of me on Ocean. Totaled my beloved Q which had just got lots of coverage at the 1of1 Fatlace show 1 week to the day before. So, I got a 2004 M45. Twilight blue, black leather, graphite birds-eye maple, 74k, 340hp / 333lb-ft. It's got every package that was available. Factory nav, voice commands, laser guided cruise control, HID's, heated/cooled seats, etc.
This model is basically a Y34 Nissan Cedric/Gloria, except the Ced/Glo never came with the VK45 V8 in Japan, only a dizzying aray of various V6's. It's definitely one of the most JDM cars on the road in the US, it was never intended to be sold here and had already been around 4 years when it debuted in USA. Only 9,000 were sold in 03-04 and the 04 is the rarest with only 1600 sold. No idea how many of the blue ones there are, but mine is the first I've ever seen. The graphite birds-eye maple is awesome looking against the black leather.
I've had the car for 5 weeks, and already lowered it, rolled the fenders, tinted, added interior foot lighting, and a few other things. The wheels from the Q are on it and fit perfect.
This car hauls ass, 0-60 5.6 sec, 1/4 mile is like 14.5 @98mph IIRC. Anyhow, onto the pics. Not sure what else I'm gonna do besides exhaust and a rear lip spoiler for the trunk and rear window. Probably eventually get the Glanz Butterfly-System aero kit from Japan, but that will be about a year from now.

Sucks for you loss, but NICE pickup Kevin. That color looks really good on that body style. Glad to see it's picking up some mods already.
On a side note, you an I should run sometime. The MS3 is now a 12 sec car if I run slicks (no joke).

Sorry to hear about the Q, but very nice car that you picked up. Looks especially nice from outside.
Was everyone OK from the accident?

Kent, only on street tires, no unfair advantages lol.
Dave, it was me and my son and neither was hurt. He was just falling asleep, and was waken up, he bit his lip, but it was literally a drop of blood. He's a fcking trooper man, didn't cry, didn't fuss the whole time while waiting for / with the cops, just said "truck goes like this, and Papa's car, and BOOM! huh!" (with hand gestures for each cars position) LOL... It was a low speed incident, under 20 I'd say but jacked the front end up enough they rather total the car than fix it, which I expected based on the cars age (12). However the adjuster was very nice and said he gave all remarks to indicate the car was in the best condition possible and as usual, Wawanessa was awesome in handling the claim. Now I'm just waiting to get my 500 ded back once they get settled with the at fault guy's insurance.
On that note, anyone want to buy a salvage title 98 Q45 fully VIP'd out, multiple trophies, etc., just needs new front end?

I need a new daily and was thinking about those but theyre looking a bit dated I thought with the new ones all huge and bubbly looking... Hows the handling on them? Yours is nice, wheels do wonders, though Id have to have it a bit higher all the time for city duty.
I only drove it stock about 4 times, but it handled good and rode great, firm and sporty. As for height, see my comments on that above. As for dated look, well, they sold so very few of them, most people have never seen one and don't know what it even is, so I would say it's not dated at all. No, it doesn't look like the new one, at all, and didn't look much like the 2nd gen either. I actually think it looks totally modern, just un-like anything else on the road.
Wow, Chris out of the woodwork!! Yeah, it sucks about the Q, but I have it sold to someone who's going to continue it and has a nice set of Work VS-XF's ready to go on it once the front end is fixed back up, so I'm really happy that it will continue on in good hands.

Went down to San Diego a couple weeks back to get Parts Shop MAX first ever set of Y34 / M45 coils installed. They used my car as the test-mule for this application. Their parts are freakin hardcore! Copper plated with actual copper, throughly engineered and designed. At this height, my car rides great.
This is my new, static, daily ride height. About 1" clearance below the cats and maybe 2" below the rear subframe. The front settled slightly since the install and I dialed in more camber.
This is what Dan at MAX Drift USA wrote after we were done.
First Y34 install for testing, Stock will arrive soon. The challanging part of the install is cutting the front strut tube. You want to cut it as low as possible (to maximize your lowest possible ride height adjustment) while still being able to connect a weld to the top hole on the bottom of the front lower mount. The little tab on the outside of the strut tube base gets ground off too. cover the welds with undercoat preferably, or black spray paint so it does not rust. The gold rear lower mount bolt here is stock. Its too short for the aftermarket parts install. The replacement black one is an M12x1.25t bolt thats about 1cm longer than OEM. New washers and a nylon lock nut are also used because the OEM lower mount has threads on one side. Rear installed. This is a true rear coil-over-damper conversion that achieves much more adjustability and spring choices than stock. Kevin was smart enough to have a muffler shop reroute his pipes higher than stock. However at these settings there is still not too much ground clearance, and these coilovers can go way way lower. In the front the car has the OEM cats in place and with plenty more room to lower the car, there is only 1 inch of clearance. This was still high enough to clear most any common variations in the street but we avoided speed bumps on the test drive. We ran just a little negative camber in the front to let the wheels turn while the tires tucked in the fender. The gold part here is the garnish that stays on the coilover. There is also a gold adjuster that slips in the center of the garnish but you dont leave it on while driving. We left the wheel well liners in which gave a little rub on hard cornering. They should come out of we go lower but its nice to retain them when ever possible. We used some MAX slip on spacers to dial the fitment, which makes a nice subtle accent behind the wheel too. I love the Y34, such a nice car. The rear suspension design is for superior to Y33, and the feel is more like the lexus GS than the Y33. After the car was equipped with the MAX coilovers, the ride is confidently firm, yet comfortable at this amazing static ride height.
