of course this deepens alot on how much the shop wants to charge you,my civic is yellow and a shop that will do good work and mix the paint so it matches would charge $200.its up to you if you want, you might get more than $200 more in the deal if it is already painted

It has more to do with how much work the bumper will need than what the shop WANTS to charge. If it needs to be painted, it obviously has been hit by something and requires some bodywork. Is it scratched, gouged, chipped? These are things that need to be stated in order to give an accurate estimate. True it would cost about 200-250 to JUST paint a bumper. But if it needs 2-3 hours of bodywork its going to cost more. I think if you want an estimate on something you need to include a picture or its not even worth asking unless it is to JUST paint a panel or part.

if im not mistaken that was what the question was for, just the paint.so yes it depends on how good quality he is looking for and if he wants it to match.of course there are alot of factors that go into just the paint and he wanted a ballpark of what it would cost.if he had 2-3 hrs of bodywork on the bumper a new one is $140

These are things that need to be stated in the first post so its more clear for everyone. I only say this because most people ask how much to paint something not knowing or maybe not thinking of the bodywork that may be involved.
And as far as someone painting a bumper for 100 bux its going to be tough. There's probably 75 in materials alone. I'm saying more like 250.

My rear lip cost 100.00. Good luck getting someone to paint a front bumper for 100 as well. 250 is a good estimate.

From RealdealSi:

I was wondering if any of you guys have had some experience with any of those "Do-it-yourself" dent removal kits that are floating around. I am looking to do a all out detailing of my car (something that I should have done when I first got the car). When I got it there are a few minor dents and dings in the car that have really been aggrivating me.

I don't expect it to the be a miracle worker, but it would be nice if I could get a couple of the nickle sized dings out of it. I was looking at something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ding-King...033215556QQrdZ1

My future brother in law works at a body shop, and during the spring next year I am going to be purchasing a couple new OEM body pieces (some places on the car have dings / scratches on seams) and the car will full repainted. The reason I am looking for something like this for now, is that I know after I detail the car if I didn't fix some of the smaller dings it will drive me nuts, now that it is fully showing.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
RDSi

---------------------------------------------

Ok- from what I have heard is that those machine thingies do not work that well at all. The dent has to have NO creases in it whatsoever for these to work, so basically you have to have THE perfect dent for that to take it out. Its always worth a shot as it will save you money IF it works, but dont go thinking its going to for sure...

Simple 6 am reponse: They are junk. They don't work. Go with PDR or its going to need actual bodywork. And not to sound like an asshole, but if your bro-in-law is a bodyman, ask him for some help. Like I have stated above pics help and if he can see the car and said dents he would be better able to help you. Gooc luck.

The reason I asked is because he had mentioned that they weren't too bad. I am going to him @ the tail end of winter this year to repaint the car with a slew of replacement pieces for the car. However I need a new rear bumper, passenger side fender, new hood, front lip, and body side moulding (yeah its a decent amount, but I want to bring it back to showroom condition). I've wanted to do it since I got the car but with getting married it was kind of a set back lol.

The reason I was looking for the dent removal kit was because I have a couple little nickle size dings that I was going to pop out as a temporary solution. Since those pieces are getting replaced when I get all the body work done @ the end of winter I figured maybe it would be a ok temporary fix when I detailed the car. However being that the responses were 0-2 I'll just pass on it and wait to get everything done.

Speaking of body work (although kind of off topic) I have been looking around and pricing out the different pieces that I need, however I cannot find one thing that I am looking for. I need to replace the side moldings and saw a while back that their was a company making them to be quite thin, almost flush to the door. Does anyone know where I could look to get them? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Regards,
RDSi

Matt - Thanks a lot. Found them on that site @ this link
http://yhst-1408381693991.stores.yahoo.net/jdmciek9tyrt1.html

Problem was, I didn't realize that they were a JDM piece. I thought they were simply a aftermarket product that some company came out with. Price actually isnt that bad either from them. I expected to pay over 200 for them.

Thanks a lot of the help.

I tried this when i was taking them off. I washed them with soap and water and then lightly scuffed them with 800 grit sandpaper. I didnt clear them, and I only did one for kicks and giggles, but the duplicolor Honda paint matches fairly well, and since it is only mudguiards, thats all ya need.

Not to knock what you did civicstud, but if you want to know how to properly do it follow these steps...

First of all, are they raw plastic or painted already? If painted already, wax and grease remove all dirt and road grime and then scuff with a gray scuff pad and base/clear.

If they are raw plastic, you will need to again wax/degrease, scuff very thoroughly with gray scuff pad and scuffing paste, clean again, need an adhesion promoter/plastic sealer with some sort of flexing agent, then base/clear.

Bah, like I said, I was just doing it for kicks and giggles so I just put half-effort into it. Haha, Im a detailed, certainly not a painter. Nor do I claim to be. Heck, I dont even know where they are anymore. :-P Haha, thanks for the input though.

Not to sound like a broken record, but there's a few problems with this type of question:
1) most of the people here have no friggin' idea what it takes to paint a car properly, and thus, have no idea what an accurate price is.

2) Labor rates, paint/materials costs, and sales tax rates are different from place to place, and this has a huge impact on the bottom line of an estimate.

Thus, it's damn near impossible for someone "over here" to give an accurate estimate to someone "over there."

Oh, and Tony (Milano'99) knows what he's talking about, so none of you goobers should argue with him.

Haha, good point. But itll still be better to have a pic to provide a "ball park" figure. People just have to take it with a grain of salt and not say "but..but...some dude on CSi said...."

Hey guys, I tried to paint my front lip first sanding it down with 400grit, then 2 coats of PLASTIC PRIMER, then wetsanding with 600grit, then applying 2 coats of spray paint, then 2 coats of clear.
What happens is, when i spray the color paint onto the primer, the paint begins to start wrinkling badly, it's so horrible!!! I fully sanded it down again and the same thing happened.

Do you guys think the PLASTIC PRIMER is the problem and it's not holdingup to the paint?? Any corrections to this problem, and the right materials and paint to use? Thanks for any help

Is it wrinkling around the areas you may have sanded through? Are you using spray can shit or a gun? Take some pics if possible.

yes it is!, I am using a spray can, but firsty time off, it was a professionnal Devilbiss GTI gun shot by a pro bodyman and it srill wrinkled. I thought the professional paint was "too strong" So I tried 2 other times using paint can, still same problem.

On a note, I did wetsand the primer right before painting and even though i completely dried it the primer felt "soft". I think the rpoblem maybe the primer getting soft from the water. Maybe i should let it dry after wetsanding it for a day or two????

its probably the shitty primer you are using. being from a can it may be lacquer? Also it is wrinkling around your sanding marks because you are putting it on too heavy or something is contaminating the surface. It needs to be stripped completely, dewaxed and degreased, and put down some adhesion promoter and some type of plastic sealer/primer, then sanded, then I would seal it again, the paint it. It may work. But have it done professionally.

Hiya, I searched but didn't get anything.

I have two small chips on my car. I bought a small bottle of touch up paint from Honda.

How is the best way to fix these chips? Proper way to clean it and application of the paint.

My 2000 EBP SI is starting to have clear coat damage on the roof and the trunk, would it be possible to respray them and make them blend perfectly and if it is possible, how much do you think this would cost?

If you want it perfect, the best way is to re-paint the entire panel. Especially since the problem is on your big flat roof and trunk, its hard to blend out on such a big panel.
Im not sure the price, up here where I'm from, I'd say it would run you around $300-$400, but thats Canadian.

If the problem area is near the edge of the panel, it may be difficult to match, but fot the most part, the roof doesn't really butt up to anything. The trunk butts up with the bumper, and quarter panels, if the problem areas are near the edges of the trunk, yea, it may be wise to blend into the other panel.
What color is your car? That has alot to do with the color match, because certain paints fade more or less than others. But if it was my car, I'd paint the roof and trunk and that be it.

I'm look to have my car re cleared. I have been told that the clear was eaten by an acidic producted used to strip parking lots, who knows? I do know my car looks like crap, already. I have pictures posted here http://forums.clubsi.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1282091/page/0/fpart/1
I was wondering what you guys think it would cost to re clear the car right and if anyone knows of a good place in the miami-southern florida area. Thanks to all.

I don't know any shop that will just reshoot the clear. Besides, if the acid ate through the clear, it probably ate into the color, too, so it'll need to be painted.

Remember, clearcoat isn't some sort of armor. It's merely clear paint, paint without pigment.
