.... (when auto crossing) do u guys have a problem with the civic's slow steering response? i have a 00 si and it takes about 3 full turns of the steering wheel just to make a U turn. i know the response is quicker the faster you go, but you dont really reach high speeds when you auto cross. thanks in advance

Are you talking about understeer? (plowing toward the outside of a turn) To counter that, you might want to stiffen up the rear with a strut barr or get stiffer shocks. As for quicker steering, you could only get that from a steering rack with a faster gear ratio. I don't know if there are any steering rack transplants that can be done on a 99 civic. Does anyone else know?

He's not talking about understeer.
He's talking about the BUS-LIKE steering that the 99-00 Si rack gives us.
Response #2 is accurate. Faster rack, or deal with it. It sucks ass...trust me.

I am curious however, If there is a faster steering rack that could be transplanted into a 99-00 civic.

All Honda steering (sans S2000) sucks. I have trouble going from the quick steering in my VW to the Honda. It cannot be cured. You just need to really crank the wheel and take the line that requires least amount of streering input (aka the tight line).
No rack swaps in without losing power steering. Rumor has it that Quaife is making a replacement rack with much quicker ratios.

I know from reading in SCC a few years ago that the Integra and I am pretty sure the Del Sol rack will not bolt up. I think the cross members are different. They did mention the possibilty of pulling the rack and swapping the internals. But that just sounds like a lot of work for a marginal improvement.
