Imagine this one will probably get postponed. Been raining 24 hours straight. Private course and I doubt promoter wants to tear up the trail.
ugh, 2nd one that has been axed due to weather
edit: it is on - this will be interesting!

You always seem to race in the most miserable conditions!

thats how the series i race used to do their age groups until last year when 19-29 became 19-39 which sucked but was nice at the same time. the pro/cat1 class doesnt have a age group but usually guys who can race masters age group bail out to that.
damn, that looks rough. thats not what i picture when i think oklahoma.
this is what i get to race next week

First race ever this past weekend.
30min crit, raining and disgusting the whole time. Came in 5th. Group ended up together on the last lap. I was 2nd wheel coming out of the final turn. My "leadout" dude crapped out with maybe 200 yards to go. A bunch of people passed me, and I sprinted to try and catch up, ended up 5th.

Another 2-4" speculated for Friday night. I'm SO beyond bummed it isn't funny. Zero outdoor miles this entire month so far.
Waiting on the long term forecast to see what the weather will be like on 3/29, as that road/dirt "classic" I've mentioned is coming. I don't have nato's fortitude to ride 45 miles on the road in 32 degree weather and I'm not riding it in rain (it was a 50 degree deluge last year), but it'll be so incredibly disappointing to not ride it this year.
I can't say I've ever been more bummed out by a winter. Last year was bad, but we were out of the woods weather-wise by now.

holy fuck, you are insane. I like riding but not nearly enough to put that sort of time/miles in during the cold weather. To me it's no longer enjoyable when i'm out freezing my balls. I just started on the trainer last week, I really, really, really, really, really, really ,really, really regret not riding through the whole winter like I did last year. Going to be a painful spring.
gotta do it to be competitive at this level...its def not always the most enjoyable. last week at the first us cup race, local guys that are beating me already and some who train with jeremiah bishop were getting pulled 2 laps into the pro xc race... one in 91st, the other in 86 and the 3rd in 74th...a lap is 3.54 miles and they did 2 before they got pulled. that is god damn ridiculous how fast the front guys are. i have till july..im just going to race my ass off and try to peak then.
my teammate always does the same thing, doesnt ride all winter then spends the 1st 1/3 of the year bitching hes not in shape lol

I understand that when you're racing pro it's a necessity to train and ride as much as you do, though i'd imagine if you weren't doing the pro racing you would still do 95% of the riding in the winter anyways. As for the local guys getting lapped, I doubt this has anything to do with fitness/training and boils down to the guys who lapped them just being naturally talented and better riders. Sometimes all the training in the world still won't get you anywhere near the really fast guys.

ah crits.. seems almost required for the fitness, since it is pretty hard to recreate that solo... i really don't want to do them. if I took anything away from that road race a few weeks back.... is that just because you can afford an s-works doesn't mean you can handle it - and man there are some scary as shit handlers in cat4/5
in other news, this was apparently supposed to be an 'endurance' ride... when the guy shows up on his rigid single speed and lays waste to you... your levels of 'endurance' sure do mean different things!
edit: it was also a really bad idea to throw the 34t on last night.. really really bad idea
video of a lap https://youtu.be/dTceVr2V2FI - fortunately we just have to go about 2.5hrs east for some real climbing, NW Arkansas is abso-fucking-lutely great for mtb'ing.

^^ youll thank yourself later! kudos!
I have til Friday to sign up for that road/gravel ride/race this coming Sunday. Weather says 44 and partly cloudy, which is pretty decent. 43 miles with 4 dirt road sections. Sounds like a shitload of fun. I'll do it on my cross bike with some 700x35 hybrid tires on it. The roads around here are FUCKED from the winter, so the extra cushion will be very welcome.

Just saw on FB that the Rhodekill ride was cancelled. Many of the dirt roads still have too much ice on them so one town won't issue the parade/bike event permit and another asked the organizer to "reconsider" holding the event altogether. This fucking winter.
Meanwhile, Thursday will be 55 and rainy, likely wiping out any trace of ice on anything.
I still hope to get out on the bike somewhere this weekend.

The past 2 months of zero outdoor miles notwithstanding, I have a feeling this year will be a lower mileage year than last. I think there will be more off-road riding (which means fewer total miles) and we'll see how much time I can put into it.
I hope to get out there once or twice this year--prospecting a (paved) bike path on the cross bike, as I don't know if it's fully rid of snow yet.
Had dinner with a couple of my cycling buds last night. One is buying a MTB, so I think we'll be in the woods a bit more than usual.

Park race on Sat. Used it as a chance to dick around, see what kind of moves we could pull. Tried a couple of attacks, ended up launching way too hard on one and dying before I could recover enough to maintain the gap. Field was fast for cat5? averaged almost 24mph.
Chased down a last minute break hoping to string the field and see if a teammate couldnt sprint it out. But, that last minute break's teammate made an awesome counterattack and won easy. Teammate got 3rd.
1100 mi ytd, not bad with our shit weather. Cant stand to be inside any longer.
