Kenny (Trixiem) and myself decided to pick up a set of the JDM EK9 sidemarkers from ICB Motorsport in Temple City.
ICB Motorsport Homepage

We printed out a template and used guidelines from this site:
Template and Tips for Sidemarker cutting
The person on the site mentioned they cut the hole smaller than the template, but we found that the template was an exact fit leaving the notch alone and simply following the lines to cut the holes.

The template we followed:

Here is the placement on the fender, 155 mm from the top of the molding to the bottom of the tape and 140 mm from the edge of the door to the edge of the tape.

We then found the center of the intersection, which is where the exact center of the sidemarker:

We then found the center of the template and lined up the two over each other and taped it down.

A drill was used to make the initial hole, then we used a "Metal Nibbler" from RadioShack ($12.99):

(This thing was awesome, and it cut very precisely, even though it took awhile, probably better than using a dremel.)

Getting started on the fender (EEEEEP!). I look scared in that picture. Poor fender.

"T" is for Tony!!

The final hole:

After cutting the hole, add place some touch up paint on the bare metal to help prevent rust. We also plan to get a rubber ring to create a tight seal around the sidemarker or use plumber's putty to help it.

Kenny wiring up the sidemarkers:

There are two wiring options. USDM (Sidemarker only blinks when turn signal is on) or JDM (Sidemarkers stay on and blink alternately with the signal). Pull back the fender liner and remove the corner/parking light. There will be 3 wires going to the bulb. Tap into the corresponding wires for each blinking style.

USDM:
Tap into green(turn signal) and black(ground) wire.
JDM:
Tap into red(parking light) and green(turn signal) wire.

Sidemarker is in!

Installed sidemarkers on our cars:

Practice fender we had before we started:

Practice fender after a hard day of work:

That's about it folks. Hope this is helpful to you all. Thanks for looking.

haha we'd be honored broken, the install wasn't that hard. Also we screwed up a little bit where a corner is showing but you can only see it if you look at it at all angels. Was nerve wrecking cutting into fenders even tho tony did most of the cutting cause i'm a pussy haha. Forgot to mention to use touch up paint to prevent rust on the cut surfaces, i didn't have any VSM so i used tonys EBP touch up on my VSM lol

Good job guys. I'm impressed that you finally did it after all that talk. I told you it wasn't that difficult. The nibblers work pretty goo, huh?

Way to go on the write up. I never have the patiuence to document all my DIYs, so this should help everybody out.

We used crimp connectors that matched the size of the two connectors on the inside of the sidemarker light bulb socket. You can go to radio shack and find some. They look like this:

Just take the socket with you and ask someone to find a connector that will slide on to those two metal tabs inside the socket. Then you can use a wire crimper to attach the wire to run to the tap. Good luck.

You can buy the Honda OEM plugs if you want, they are for the prelude i believe. I used radio shack spade connectors. I'm not sure what the price is off the top of my head, but you buy a package of like 10 for a few bucks. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you search for this same thread in the General Forum, you might find that some people used the Honda plugs and some used the spades.

it's actually pretty simple. it doesn't matter which plug taps what wire from the socket of the sidemarker. as long as one wire is tapped into the red wire and the other is tapped into the green. that's if you want them to stay on along with your parking lights. if you want them to only blink with your turn signals, then you will only tap one, i forgot which, i think i stated above which one, and the other wire to tap is the ground wire (black). hope that helps. not sure if that's what you were looking for. good luck.

hmm you need some wire T taps, 4 two on each side marker, and you need some wire, after that you need some spade connecters the ones that tony posted up you need about 4 of those too lol. The nibbler was honestly personal preference, if your good with a dremel you can use that, but we found it to be more accurate and you have more control over the cutting with the nibbler. It works like a holepuncher, but it punchs squares of metal out, so you put it where you wanna punch out and squeeze.

i went to the honda dealer by me and the parts counter said he didn't think anything they had fit the connector. easier/cheaper to use the spade connectors and they fit snug too. i also sodered the wires off of the turn signals instead of cutting and splicing... haven't checked behind the markers since i did it but they're still working fine....

I just got my sidemarkers and was wondering how these things stay in place?? is it just the clips on the sidemarker that holds them secure? so when i cut the hole and put the sidemarker in....will it just clip in and hold onto the fender? thanks guys.

pretty much, that is why the hole you cut needs to be very exact so that the sidemarker holds to the fender securely.
