It's a fully self supported event. I was over prepared. 27lb bike to start with. 4 full water bottles/cages, bags, food, spares, tools, camera, etc adds up quick! The really fast guys rode in groups and had support vehicles at the 2 checkpoints. I rode solo, and made it more of an adventure. Next year I might choose a different bike. Maybe \:\)

I figured it was something like that. I've seen the vid you posted before. Looks like an awesome experience--albeit a painful one. Props for finishing \:\)

That looks so awesome. I love hills. <3

On my own note, finally got a new roadbike. Previous one was stolen from our building's locked storage. Great.

20 miles yesterday, slowly working my way up trying to avoid injuries. It feels awesome to begin getting that sexy cycling farmers tan.

Did my regular 18 mile loop yesterday and today. 17.4mph average both days. Hot and humid today, though. VERY sweaty. Just dodged the thunderstorms that dropped the temperature 20 degrees in an hour.

Did both rides on my old Trek restomod. I just got the new ST3500 Sora 9-speed levers for it (to replace the old 3400 levers with the thumb buttons on them). Nice cheap upgrade, as the new levers are essentially 9-speed 5600 105 levers (I have 10sp 5600 105 levers on my main bike). The tooling is exactly the same. They really work great--trickledown is an amazing thing. \:\)

So I've fallen in love with my old steel Trek again.

I was also psyched to look down mid-ride and notice that I had a vein running down my right quad now. My legs are crazy vascular now. \:\)

The bike is a tank--has to be 25lbs--but dammit if I don't love it. I'm curious to see if I can do that loop any faster on my other bike that's 5lbs lighter. It's a flat course, so I wonder if it will matter much.

Just got the e-mail from the LBS saying that Tuesday night time trials are starting up again. I'm teaching a tues/thurs night class til 7/2, so I won't be able to do it til after that. I'll be fresh off of the MS150 (6/22-6/23), so my conditioning should be pretty sweet.

I think I'm in a better place now than I was at this time last year. I seem to be climbing a lot stronger.

We had the annual team Death Ride today. It's an 80mi ride in and out of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We've been doing the same route for few years. Today was the largest turnout, about 60 people came out to ride. I'm totally shot, my quads are fried.

Here's the route with elevation from someones garmin last year.

I'm not sure what the total elevation was, I forgot my garmin. I'll try to get someone's data.

Holy shit that's a ton of seat time! I'm impressed with myself when I clear 100 miles for the week.

That "death ride" just doesn't seem up my alley. 13 hours of climbing. LOL.

You should be able to bend it back into rough position pretty easily...I believe Park actually makes a tool to do it.

Depends how bent it is. There is a point of no return with it.

That Park straightener got a LOT of use when I was a wrench, though. Badly tuned derailler + big cog + spokes = lunchtime for everything

It's not bending back into position......lol.

The good news is they pulled their head of their ass and I'm getting the right one.

Had a really nice ride memorial day, longest since my broken arm healed, but the bike paths/bridge/roads were fucking clogged with cyclists. I saw so many fat people on tri-bikes it was unreal. Warm weather, day off, time to break out the expensive toy, I guess.

My Memorial Day ride (35 miles) included one of my regular bike paths. No tri bikes, but TONS of hybrids/comfort bikes and quite a few people out to lunch. I was like a parrot with "back on your left".

Did a hilly 18 miles on the singlespeed today. Very sluggish for the first half.

Thursday and Friday will be in the low 90's here, Saturday in the high 80's/low-90's, depending on the source. I If I have time, I'll hit the singlespeed on Friday afternoon and a longer (~40 mile) ride on Saturday.

I'm getting the premonition that this year's MS150 will be like riding in Death Valley (June 22-23)

Just went for another training ride. 35ish miles, its was like 92-93ish out, sunny. Being a fucking moron, I only brought water. Protip of the day, the insulated bottles like this one are fucking bomb. Cold water still after like an hour and a half in hot fucking weather:

http://shop.camelbak.com/podium-big-chill-25oz/d/1056_c_202_cl_498

Anyway, I only brought water, because I'm an idiot. No food, no sportsdrink. I bonked like an asshole after mile 30ish. Ugh I hate that feeling. Those last 5 miles were miserable.

39.2 miles in 89 degree humid air yesterday. Did a low-effort 16.1 mph average over 2:26. It was windy, but it was a crosswind (mild headwind) on the way out and a mild tailwind on the way back. The extra ventilation was nice. Put in 330 miles for May, which is good for me.

Went through 2 regular bottles and a Poland Spring in my jersey pocket--all of 50/50 powerade/water. I think I want to get ahold of some Cytomax triathlon formula.

5th MASS Race today at Bear Creek Ski Resort, was also the PA State Championship Race. got 3rd in the race and was 2nd for the state championship. hardest race this year by far. 90 degrees, started off with a 2 mile climb, which i had to walk the top part, insane rock downhills. 15 miles, 1 hour 55 minutes, 2200ft of climb, avg hr of 186. 186!! max of 198. im toast. i seriously thought i was going to have a heart attack

gamby, you should try hammer heed or skratch labs for hydration. i switched over from the 50/50 powerade/water combo and never looked back

Where do you get it? I'm concerned about the MS150 being above 85 degrees this year and having my hamstrings lock up around mile 75 of 84 of day 1

It's a hammer product so lots of local places will carry it, i've seen it here at both the bike and running stores. If not you can buy it online. I used to use heed and perpetuem but they were awful, at least in my experience. Taste and texture was like chalk and when i'd use it at races it would always give me liquified poops.

I bought a few envelopes of Heed at the LBS today. Will try some out on Wednesday to see how it agrees with me.

A full envelope to a full bottle?

Says it--I just can't remember how many ounces a standard water bottle is--I think it's a quart. Was too lazy to investigate, but will shortly.

Standard is like 20-21oz. My bigass camelbak is like 24oz.

Nice ride, 70 degrees. I've forgotten what riding when its not 95 is like, holy hell.

Did 35 miles in windy 70 degree conditions.

Tried the melon Heed and it was tasty. No bowel issues with it, so I guess I'll try a few bottles of it on the MS150.

Sucky week for mileage this week. Gonna be rainy on Friday and Saturday, busy every other time. I hope I can squeeze something in on Sunday if social plans allow it.
