Between moving, work travel, and final prep for a half marathon on Sunday, pretty much.
After this weekend will get in a few rides before the MS150. May rides in a crit or two over labor day weekend, but my fitness is shit right now.
Then cross.

Did the MS Ride over the weekend. Obviously not a race but this year they introduced chip timing. I had joined a team this year for the ride where I knew a couple of people, but never actually got any training rides in with them. In fact, never got a training ride in over 50 miles this year so wasn't sure what to expect.
The plan originally was to ride 75 miles each day. I was riding with my group in a double paceline when, just past the 20 mile mark, we choose 75 miles by going straight or 100 miles by turning right. The whole group turns right so I guess I'm doing 100
We had a Cat 2 guy from my racing team and a couple of other strong riders do most of the pulling. There were times were it felt like we went a couple miles at 20+ mph and I didn't even have to turn the pedals. Finished in about 4:50 (time in the saddle and not counting lunch or rest stops - total time was about 5:50) and felt pretty good. I bet if I had soloed the 75 mile route it would have taken nearly as long.
Day 2 tended to be less organized. There were some folks doing the century route but they were going to try to break 4 hours - if you get dropped, tough shit. Trying to hang on and getting dropped didn't really sound appealing to me, and I wanted to catch some football, so I just did the short route. Good ride, legs felt ok and still had gas in the tank. Battery on my Garmin died right near the end and haven't checked my exact time, but feel like it was around 2:15 for what was about 42 miles.
Good weekend. Now time for cross.

I stopped for about 4mos cause of a serious back spasm that'd hit my sciatic nerve & send pain radiating down the front of my left thigh anytime I started seriously pedaling. Never really raced much, just kept upping the miles at a leisurely pace.
Now I think I'm going to train to try & go faster for a 1hr timeframe, but it's like starting from scratch so it's going to be a long time getting into shape.

Anyone spending time in the saddle recently? I've been getting in a fair amount of time on the trainer doing intervals and simulated rides, and shopping for a new bike in the hopes of joining my first crit club this spring and trying a few races in the summer.
Never rode in a group, never took a high-speed tight corner, so I sure have a lot to learn. Thankfully they run an entire "learn to race" program all summer.

I now have to read this whole thread.
I don't race, though.
Got out for my normal 18-mile loop yesterday, but that's dumb like in Feb in RI. Normally on the trainer.
Can't wait to re-do my primary bike once it's off the trainer. I still have to buy a cassette and chain.
SRAM Apex cranks/BB, Ultegra front and rear derailleurs, 10-speed 105 brifters, Forte compact bars and a new stem are waiting to go on.
I want to SLAY the MS150 this year.

God DAMN, I hope they do this for my chapter's ride sometime soon. We're 800+ riders strong, so I dunno if they can.
Also--regarding trainers--I'd have a helluva time doing much more than 1.5 hours on a trainer. It would just get too uncomfortable (on the back, hands, shoulders). No issues with being in the saddle on the road forever, but being on a trainer for 2 hours might make me suicidal.

I ride at least 3 days a week on the trainer. Saturday mornings are great here we put on a indoor group trainer ride usually about 10-15 people show up and grind it out for around 2 hours.
I've been hook on the sufferfest videos. Fight Club puts my legs in the crusher every time.
downward spiral can make you go ouch also

Ordered 12-28t cassette from a shop thru amazon. Received 11-25t cassette.
Fuck.
I hope it's not a major issue to return.

How are you guys balancing your strength and weight training with cycling? I'm thinking of going to 3-4 days a week on the bike (2-3 short-ish rides and one long one on the weekend) and 2 days of weights/strength.
In the cold months, I do circuits on my trainer, where I'll ride for 15min, hop off and bang out a big set of chinups (25-30+) or pushups on my pushup handles, hop back on and repeat for a 1 hour cycle.
I intersperse with yoga twice a week (sometimes on bike days), jumprope circuits, etc. I've also been dong a kettlebell DVD twice a week.
When the weather warms up, i'm figuring on a big ride each Saturday. During the week, a couple of short rides (8-10 miles) on my singlespeed with maybe one of those substituted for a medium ride (18-20 miles).
On non ride days, there will be chinups/curl bar or pushup handle routine. I'm not a gym rat anymore, but I get plenty out of those exercises (see my fitness thread in this forum).

Did my baseline workout today on the trainer (50 minute interactive ride, lots of intervals) for the first time since Feb 18 and saw an 8.5% improvement on the distance I covered during the ride. It's not huge, but I'm happy with it.
Can't wait to see what happens when I try it on the new bike in a few weeks.
Still waiting for my new drivetrain from Ribble too
And rollers are on the way too. $30 Craigslist score! Can't wait for the hilarity that will ensue.

It was 64 here yesterday, but it was so fucking windy I skipped riding. I loathe riding into a headwind. Back down to mid 40's today. Might get out on Sunday--it's supposed to be 50.
Gotta pick up some cables and then I'll rebuild my main bike. I have all of my other parts and some new derailleur pullies will be coming mid-to-late next week. Can't wait to see it in its new and improved configuration.

Thinking of selling my 50mm carbon clinchers and getting the 88mm instead.
Same deal--Chinese generics?
Is there a big gain from going to a bigger profile? The ones you have on there at the moment are pretty damn deep.
Those pullies I ordered are from and ebay mystery China seller--as was a few rolls of bar tape. Unethical, sure. I have to adjust karma and buy my cables at the LBS.
