Traffic has been at a standstill and it's summer + WFH. Leaving at 6am to go downtown, traffic. Leaving DT at 7pm, traffic almost starting at BMW Toronto again.

I get it, less people on public transportation, but how are we going to get around when offices open?

What are everyone's schedules looking like come September?

WFH, hybrid, back to 100% in office?

Yeah traffic is already close to pre pandemic like wtf...been checking Google maps often.

I have been going in once a week for a year now, we continue that until January. Then our office plan is you work 50% of the month at home, 50 at office. Try to split it evenly week to week by day like 2/3, 3/2 etc.

Hopefully it works for wifey as she will be similar. #1 thing is kids need to be IN CLASS f/t. Online learning for kids is a joke. Maybe at grade 9 and up fine but fucking stupid for lil kids.

I like WFH in the short term with two little ones. I get to see them more and I get to sleep in. I think there is voluntary work in office but being on the Go train for a hour plus with a train full of strangers does not appeal to me.

So...no. only time is likely an outdoor work event.

I don’t think I’ll see my office until Jan at the earliest, and even then, I’ll be in no more than twice a week. To start, it’ll probably be once a week.

My new place will be right downtown so this will be an interesting change for me. I'm used to driving and having free garage parking. Now I'll be go train to union.

Not sure what the office plans are but I'm pretty sure it will be some sort of hybrid model.

Current company transitioned to 100% WFH 'forever'.

- Office is open with hoteling seating (Liberty Village), 100% optional. Will try to visit 1-2x/month
- Will try to "WFH" at parents place in Markham 1-2x/month.

This means I'll be out of the house 2-4x/month, and with it being optional for both, wife is gonna blow up, so I'll be lucky to visit DT office and parents once/month.

On the topic of productivity, it's a fucking shit show....
- People complaining about too many meetings
- 'Another meeting' to settle on wtf the answer/solution should be
- Everyone's a fucking emo introvert and refuses to turn on their webcams. (As I host a shit ton of meetings, my camera is on like 80% of the time.

I'm also willing to bet people are going to 'bake in' travel time ...

As in, "Hey, I'm working at the office on Wednesday 1030-3pm, sorry can't takes calls outside of that cuz of travel time."

I recall getting into the elevator at 5 PM pre covid and I could literally feel my coworker's button on my leg....

Pre-COVID my company never really had an official WFH policy, so I managed my team the way I wanted. Basically gave them the flexibility to WFH whenever they wanted. They just recently announced the new WFH policy which states people need to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week, but my team knows that I am flexible. We are targeting to go back to the office in November when we move into our new building where we will not have assigned seating.

with a mass exodus from downtown out to the sticks, if things go back to "normal" - i'm wondering if traffic will be much worse (because more people will have to commute again - regardless if its 50% of the time or whatever)

we're being told office re-opening will be soon, no formal dates - rumour is 1-2x a week -- at least its in the new tower that was just built

now that i don't have to mad rush to go home for daycare pick up, i'll travel off peak if i have to; but i do find that i'm more productive at home (i can run my personal errands if i'm waiting for people at work to respond)

i'm of the webcam OFF camp - i like to multi-task so i will not make eye contact (w/ the cam) - and i don't have a poker face so i will roll my eyes / give that wtf look when people say something stupid; plus most meetings where i get pulled in is because PMs that don't know any better just randomly pull the whole village in for every little thing that doesn't involve 90% of the invitees

will only turn the cam on when it's department meeting when your 1-up or 2-up boss is talking so you gotta play that "i'm listening" part -- but work meetings; so far no one has complains about it

Same here. I would love to have my camera on during each meeting and just sit there and listen. But when you have 7 hrs worth of meetings every day of the week, I admittedly am not always paying 100% attention as I'm trying to work on other things. That and trying to hide the eyerolling and wtf looks every 5 mins \:D

My first week I had my camera on for every meeting and quickly saw that I was one of the few who did so now it's camera off and muted unless I need to pipe up.

It's my schtick nowadays to give a massive/obvi WTF look ("the people's eyebrow") if something is fucked, and/or to try to 'encourage team cohesion' and all that shit.
