Saw the story. Super sad. I'd be happy to wait and let the people who are essential workers, front line, etc get their shots first.

I signed up for Rexall for when it is mine turn and they had an option where they ask if you could be there in a hour if they call you.
Anyone tried to get vaccinated by standing by at the clinics/community centre at the end of the day? Pfizer gets thrown out if not used in time, so they give shots to non-qulaifiers instead of throwing them out. Not sure if that happens in York or Toronto as well. Or do they have a specific people already listed for the left overs? (Family and friends of the health workers etc?)

I didn't know that but it makes sense. Only snag is how do you book your 2nd shot after?

Same here. I don't mind staying home all summer. I'm not the traveller type so i'm not missing that aspect of life. I much prefer to be not sick, but maybe I'm just nuts. I'm good with ordering food and eating at home and now that the weather is getting better ordering and eating in the backyard. I've become use to just being home and only going out for groceries. And besides, a few people over in the backyard this summer sitting 6ft apart isn't too horrible imo.

Texas today...
Quick facts -1,100 New cases in Texas yesterday -3,000 New cases in Ontario -Texas population 1.6 times higher than Ontario
Are they testing more or less than us? (Positivity rate would be a better indicator)
As well, curious as to what their vaccination rate is (I'm sure it's ways ahead of the rate we're going).
US may've started slow to curb this, but they are doing it faster than us and may come out ahead (despite suffering a much larger casualty).

So what's the deal with getting a vaccine at end of day so they aren't thrown out? How easy is it to get one of those, which kind is it (do they tell you)?

It's not that easy to get a freebie jab. They probably have maybe 2 or 3 at the most at the end of the day and it goes to towards the staff who work at the clinic (janitor, front desk workers, staff who work in a building but not directly with the clinic). If you had gone to the clinic in mid-March, it was easier to get one.
The clinics only administers Pfizer or Moderna. AztraZenca is administered at pharmacies.

You old 45-59 geriatrics, line up in York if your postal matches. Postal codes L4L, L6A, L4K, L4J and L3S.

My wife's cousin/husband easily got in, I just don't want to drive to High Park for it.

me too.
fyi when i took her 2 weeks ago to the pharmacy (etobicoke) it was empty. nobody showed up to their appointments and took my mom in 30 min early.
wonder if its the AZ scare or something else...
The media did a great job to scare the bejesus out of me and it's enough for me not want to get AZ.
Nonetheless, the important thing is that your mom got the shot.

Dropped into Costco ... Ghost town ... they've spent a ton of time shifting products to block off the middle of the shop (clothing), and tons of aisles had stuff blocked off with moving wrap ...
So yeah, they've learned from the bickering from the 2 previous lockdowns re: essential vs non-essential items in stores.

It almost seems like all of these decisions that become our new reality get formulated in a place like this:
