This is my first non point and shoot camera. I just set it to intelligent auto setting and snapped off a few pics. For some of them, I was messing around with the built in effects functions. I definitely have A LOT to learn about anything and everything. Thinking about taking a class at my local community college. Anyhow, enjoy!

It works!

Most of the fun is learning, and it really never stops. A class isn't a bad idea. You might find some 4-hour, 8-hour, weekend classes and stuff like that on Facebook or whatever social networks you use. There are also TONS of great videos available from guys like Jared Polin, Chase Jarvis, Zack Arias, etc. I'm still catching up - there's not enough time in the day to watch it all.

I love my 5n I just need to get better with the overall framing of a shot. I took a free class held by a local photography meetup and I'm thinking about taking one of the adult classes offered at the local schools. So far I've got the kit lens and I got a great deal on the 55-210 ($180) and also a good deal on the viewfinder ($230)

How's the 55-210? I have it...havent used it yet.
And does the view finder help? I'm debating if its needed or not.
I am probably going to get the better flash, as I heard great things about it.

The 55-210 is nice when I need the range and the viewfinder works really good

Some more pics I took today at Henry Ford Museum. Played around with the build in illustration effect on many of them.

Thanks. Though I had to google "photography composition" to find out what it actually means!

When you use the built-in effects, does it also save a non-edited image as well?

No it doesn't, as far as I know. It would be sweet if it did.

That sucks. I wouldn't use it then. You can do that stuff on your computer. It would suck to capture a great image, aside from the effect being used.
Just food for thought.
