Uh yeah, this is a little preemptive but any wild guesses on which will be faster? Anybody think (like me) that the SRT4 will actually be MORE expensive than the Stang?
The Stang would possibly get an exhaust (damn the v6's sound good with one) and it would get ordered with the 3.31 rear end. Probably get the stripes/trunklid spoiler too.
The SRT4 would probably stay close to stock, maybe a little more boost.
These are the only two cars that really excite me as a replacement for my 03' Neon. I don't think anything else has a chance at high 13s for low/mid twenties.

The R/T will probably be around $23k (I'm guessing). The two options I'd want to add would put the Stang right at 23k with manual shift. I don't see the R/T even breaking into the 14s with an expected weight of what, 2800lbs? Seems to pale by comparison...
It'll be over 3k lbs. I saw the specs somewhere and was shocked.

Well this was a quick debate. 23k buys a Neon, err, Dart that's no faster than the original Neon R/T for 10k more. 30k buys you a Neon, err, Dart that's probably as fast as the base Stang.
I just priced the Stang. $23,295 with manual shift, spoiler, stripes, and the 3.31 limited slip. That includes destination of $795 and an incentive of $500.
Oh if Ford would bring out a smaller rwd car with the Stang 6 as the top of the line engine it would be so full of win. I'd pay 23k for that... Maybe they could call it a "Maverick".

Turns out, 3k lbs was being generous.
Dodge said much attention was paid to keeping curb weight at a minimum (it ranges from 3173 to 3297 lb.)

Everything is 3k now. Seems odd for small cars.
safety crap.
I try not to be a weight nazi, because the feel group oddly like to trash that one spec instead of actually "feel", but I still pay attention. For me, size matters too. We don't need big compacts.
The new focus is hot, but fuck is it big (at least on the outside). I have friends with Fiestas and Fits, and they're about the same width and length as my old GTI, but tiny on the inside in comparison. Safety is the devil.

I really doubt the new Dart SRT is going to be over 30k. I think they'd be killing the car's success.

Unless the plan is very limited quantities. DOOOOM! Hahahah! Hey, I recall that article was taking liberties with the price. It wasn't quote by the mfgr. In fact, I remember they were saying the Focus STD or whatev is going to be 30k so this has to be as well. Doesn't sound like a solid number.

People still bought the caliber SRT-4. *shrugs*

Not very many of them. As far as I can tell, it only lasted two model years. And didn't sell well then. I found an old review of the Caliber SRT-4 that said it was priced $5 from the Mazdaspeed3. Which now goes for $24k. If the Dart SRT-4 hits that mark, it'll be a winner even at 3200 lbs.

Food for thought since you are a weight nazi (and I am too, but for different reasons). My 2006 evo weighs 3420 lbs with me in it and my honda fit is nearly 1000lbs LESS. Guess which one has more "feel", feedback, and better handling.
I like the fit, turn in is nice for a compact car, but after that it keels over (and its not the suspension compressing). The car just can't hang on worth a shit after initial turn in. Mid corner it is push city and on exit you sit there swearing while you plow straight off the road. The width is narrow and the center of gravity is high, and it shows.

Maybe the 2013 Genesis 2.0t will be a contender with the horsepower boost?
I should mention the Camaro too, but I bet its cramped and the interior isn't up to the Stang's quality.

I know there's much more to feel than just weight. Still, all other things being equal, lighter is better.
I agree, all things being equal. Still for a max effort car I'd pick a C6 over say a miata for road racing. The weight penalty, to me, is worth it.

As a matter of fact, neither breached 20 iirc...hence the purchase, lol. Like me...107xx out the door for a 2 year old, fully loaded except for 5 speed "4x4" compass with 33K miles. GREAT car for the price.

Really? The MS3 and Focus ST will do low to mid 13's with 500-600 in mods. One guy on the Mazda boards was consistently hitting 12.9x with just an intake and DR's.
If I were looking for a car in that price range, I'd be seriously considering the FT-86 for at least a test drive.

I should not use Toyota and Mazda/Ford in the same post.
FT-86 for fun factor alone.
