I got the pdf printed out ... I am planning to go to the dealership next month.

This however, concern me.

DIAGNOSIS
Drive a known-good vehicle under the same conditions
as the customer’s complaint, and compare the shift
quality. If the customer’s vehicle has noticeable shift
quality problems, replace the 3rd gear set.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for there to be some
resistance or notchiness when shifting into third gear.

Sometimes it just won't let me shift in the 3rd gear, but it will usually go in 2nd and 3rd attempts.

i went to the dealer and they said they wont fix it until when they drive it they experience the same problem. they said its not a recall and they must notice the problem by themselves. i find that funny cuz on the sheet it says that happens intermediately and mostly when cold.... makes no sense.

Called the dealership and they said they would have to call me back in which they did. I had them pull my file up and it shows that I've had the car in for multiple complaints on the 3rd gear almost since the time of purchase. My complaint comments match exactly with the title of the TSB. I gave the guy in the service department the TSB number and just told him that I'm glad I'm not going crazy because the bulletin even says intermittent.

I may stand corrected on my next comment(s): I believe the dealership is required by law, if a car is in for 3 or more complaints for the same issue (even without reproducing the problem) then a service bulletin is released, to fix the problem. I don't know if this is why they are willing to work with me or not but I should know more by tomorrow.

I was told they had to order in the parts and that it would take two days once they are in to do the required work. I will definitely let everyone know once I have the problem fixed since I have seen multiple posts on other forums of dealerships saying they would fix it and then they don't. Pending on repairs I am more than willing to share any information I get from Honda with everyone else experiencing these problems, so we can all enjoy what we expected from these vehicles!

I'm hoping that my Monday surprise does not turn into a Tuesday headache :-/

Dude, After I figure out what they are going to do I'll let you know. I think it could possibly be with the syncros not stopping/lining up properly due to the colder weather and the characteristics of metal (expanding/shrinking/friction)??? Who knows but in warmer weather the syncro's seem to match up more often than in cold. I'm still wondering even with a replacement if we won't still have the same issues.....

a person from 8th got the 3rd gear fixed, and he said that it's still (Problem 1) notchy (that's totally fine) but it doesn't (problem 2)refuse to go into 3rd gear or (problem 3)pop out of gears anymore.

I think Honda should fix the last two issues for all cars for safty reasons.

I haven't had any trouble with my car's tranny. It is an 07 coupe but for some reason(probably cuz it's a canadian car) doesn't fall in the listed vin #s. Has anyone from canada experienced third gear issues?

It says 2006-2007 Civic Si 2-Door: ALL. FYI, I didn't have the 3rd gears issue the first two months. The 2nd and 3rd issue i listed above happened a lot lately. (when the car is still cold)

I don't get why some dealerships are refusing to fix this, because, correct me if I am wrong, Honda is paying for it right?

I have the 07 and occasionally, its notchy and all i have to do is make sure it goes a little further, which it does. It is not bothersome and i dont have any troubles with grinding or popping out.

Mine, grinds and pops out alot when cold. It grinds some when its warm, but mostly just notchy and hits the "wall" when its warm. I think my service guy is pretty cool and will get it fixed. I took my short shifter out. Just let your car sit for a good 30 minutes at the dealership, let it get cold, then go to service and start complaining.

Since i never experience grinding or popping, i may be worried that it would get worse. I dont know if the risk of making it worse is worth fixing the problem, and hte problem is that it is sometimes notchy and have to push it farther.

Dealers make a lot of money on warranty work, but they are expected to keep the # of hours to a certain amount based on sales volume, population density etc. If I were having a problem as serious as some of you guys say you are, I would phone ahead, ask to speak with the service MANAGER, not the shop foreman, and while speaking to him/her arange to meet with them and explain the problem. If you're persistent enough they'll ok the work just to have you leave them alone. Last time I did this I even got a free detailing

i have a 06 si and i am from vancouver and i am experiencing the 3rd gear problem. notchy and poping out, with the occasional grinding after it pops out.
anyone from vancouver here don't get servicing frmo Happy honda in burnaby. their customer service there is SHIT.
the service guy out right told me that they won't do any recall work on my car if i don't do any service with them. they said they should be doing all the oil changes on my car. i told them that mr. lube is certified and a lot cheaper than them.
thats my 2cents.

It turns out that a senior tech took my car for the test drive on my last visit for an oil change / complaint about 3rd gear. He did experience the issue but at the time they told me it was a normal characteristic of the car since this was before the service bulletin. After the bulliten was released and I called they arranged the repairs. Currently I am sitting in Seattle and my car is sitting in a Chicagoland dealership being repaired tomorrow. I will have an update after I come home and drive it for some miles to see if this really has fixed the problem. They are replacing 3rd gear.

If you are experiencing the issue just keep taking it back to Honda and just try to be as polite and persistant as possible. Eventually something will happen. I started at 6000 miles and it took me until 24000, but hopefully it's worth it.

Any update for us since the fix? Better? Worse? No change?
I'm taking mine in on Monday for them to replicate. I'm just curious to know if the new synchros are helping.

I drove it home from the dealership just in time to head downtown for tarp's bachelors party. Then the Pirates where in town so I stayed in the city with 5 buddies to watch the chubbies kick our ass Saturday. Out of commission last night and I'm just getting ready to drive around and pick up some clay and wax to detail my car since it's a perfect day.

So I will let you guys know if I have any problems but the shifting felt amazing on my short ride home so now I have to get the mental block out of my mind about 3rd gear grinding and popping and being notchy. They showed me the sleeve that was in question and 3rd gear and there was almost no damage to the part but the new 3rd gear set is supposed to be a "fix" they told me and not just a replacement of the same part.

I'll let everyone know how it feels throughout the next week driving to work and around town. Still crossing my fingers that it is a permanent fix, if not Honda will be spending lots of money on our cars....

Drove it to get some cleaning supplies, then after a 5 hour detailing I took it for a spin and it shifted smoother than it ever has before.

Mine was fixed by the TSB. I love 3rd gear now. I am experiencing NO notchiness, NO wall/resistance, and NO grinds. I love my shifting again.

Dropped off my 2006 SI this morning for the 3rd gear issue. Hopefully the problem gets fixed. I have about 21,000 miles on it and have had the problem since the first week I had it. I will update after I get the car back, which will probably be tomorrow (big job from what I understand).

Not to add another 'I brought mine in today' reply, but I took mine in on Tuesday and just mentioned the 3rd gear issue since it's not that big of a hassle for me. I don't think they even drove it and they ordered the parts. Unfortunately they are on national backorder, but at least I know I am on the list.

Just got a call from the dealer. They inspected the tranny and ordered the parts as per the TSB. Probably won't be in until the end of the month according to the service advisor. I'll keep posting after the repair.

On a different note, my loaner was a 2007 Accord LX with the 4 banger, automatic. I was really surprised by the power and quietness of this car. Felt like I was driving a six.

My 3rd gear replacement took 2 days and it drives smoother than it did brand new. I think you'll be pleased, only problem is that it's warm now so I can't wait until winter to see if the fix really works. As for the accords they are nice my parents just got the sedan EX-L V6 and I am very jealous.

After they ordered my parts, the Honda dealership was able to fix the 3rd gear problem in one day. The car runs great! The dealership said that it was close to $3K worth of parts and labor. Regardless of what the cost was, I am pleased with the end result.
