Would you guys just do laminate? What do you think of this colour to keep the basement light and airy

as long as you have a good subfloor it shouldn't be an issue

I am never doing hardwood again in any home I own. I like to build shit to last with the least amount of maintenance. High quality Laminate for me frown now on.

Same here. Laminate is more stable, less gaps show up if humidity levels can't be maintained. The costco stuff we put in our basement is ultra durable, and at 15mm its almost like hardwood.

^^ What additional maintenance for hardwood, besides the initial installation?

I figure I spend at least 300 more a year running my ac extra to keep humidity in check just for the floor. The floor serves its purpose but I've given up. I've dropped shit on it and I've dented it in multiple spots. It shows and cleans up well but fuck this bullshit. Looks great but not worth it when laminate is light years better.

Basements are the most humid parts of te house, if you don't control that the floors will expand at the edges and look wavy. If you have to do hardwood go with oak I find it's the toughest hardwood and it lasts a while. It just has a shitty looking grain.

but thats why I said engineered hardwood, its way less susceptible to humidity fluctuations. We installed some on the main level in 2008. No issues so far.

I heart my laminate in the basement. I can't tell you how many times I've spilled water from the tank and nothing has happened, not to mention the added humidity from a big tank with open top. If I went with hardwood I'd probably be replacing it by now.

Also your kids play in the basement, so that hardwood is going to get pwn3d.

Get tile that looks like hardwood floor \:\) then you wouldn't need to worry about humidity, gaps, dents, scratches, etc. Radiant heated floors are not that expensive.

In my new house, I got hardwood floor on the first floor, even the kitchen because that's "in" right now. So for the powder room, I was able to find a tile that looked like the hardwood floor I chose.

I was very fascinated but my gf wasn't.

What do you guys think, should I use the "matching" tile for my kitchen too?

Tile that looks like wood is absolutely dumb in my opinion, it's just so stupid looking. If you want wood, do wood otherwise pick a tile that isn't retarded.
Next up, tile that looks like carpet.
I don't know why but people think the faux wood tiles are so baller/modern/cool but it is just tasteless. Maybe I haven't seen a nice looking one, or one done properly. This is of course just my opinion.

I guess I'll just stick to a small space like the bathroom.

Hardwood width = 18.8 cm
Tile width = 18 cm

Thanks for your input.

I've got strand bamboo in the condo and I did let it acclimatize for a week. It shrunk an inch and in some spots I see the underlay through the trim, and it's all cracked where it went around the pillars, one more thing to fix before selling it.

Also for the record when it comes to stone surfaces, the marble floors I've laid haven't held up, just too soft but they do look nice still once they have character but the first few scratches hurt.

There is nothing wrong with wood looking tiles...they have their place/purpose in specific homes.

My only issue is using wood floors and butting up to "wood tile" to try and match. That doesn't work (the matching part), pick one or the other. If you have to tile an area use a different tile to break up the space.
