Sony a7 and a7r being released in Dec.
Here's a link to a field test with the a7r http://briansmith.com/sony-a7r-field-test/
I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas this year!

I have the NEX 6 right now with a slew of legacy MF lenses (mostly Minolta, and a voigtlander and leica r mount). I probably will want to make sure that these lenses will work with my existing adapters w/o any issues first before taking the plunge.

Bump that fps and I'm super interested. Don't know why I wouldn't be. It's got to be coming. Pretty crazy.

I haven't been following camera trends in a while. Aside from size, what's the advantage to mirrorless, in particular this one vs a standard full frame DSLR?
I am my no means a camera expert. But I think size is the main selling point. I think the whole mirrorless/compact camera system popularity is that you get dslr quality images in a much smaller package.

Small size, quieter operation, generally a good step forward in overall camera design and conceptualization of what works and why. They are kinda like an electric car in the sense that if the first cameras were being invented today, they would be mirrorless.

if i didn't shoot any sort of action, i think it'd be badass. the Olympus stuff looks awesome with the weather sealing and mirrorless action, but I don't care how good the image quality of the m4/3 sensors are, I want full frame images. So along comes Sony with this exquisite piece, that I bet FEELS like it's carved out of a solid piece of metal when you handle it. I do imagine that as you get treated a certain way for having a pro system sometimes, you would get treated differently with something like this despite the fact that the specs are incredible. The flash sync speed is curious though, 1/250 for the 7 and 1/160 for the 7r. Is there actually a shutter on these? Train of thought here, I guess the V1 I have has a shutter, there's a mechanical and electronic mode...but how does the viewfinder work if the shutter is closed? Hm. I would like to see a 2.8 zoom lens, I'd use that more then activating stabilization on the f4 glass. Really cool intro though, really cool

Yeah, there are still the shutter curtains in front of the sensor that raise up and drop down very fast as a picture is taken.
This video will explain it better than I can...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tpYDet-aUs
About being treated differently. I agree 100 percent. I read a first hand account of this happening from a professional photographer. He was planning on using a NEX-7 on a paid family portrait shoot outdoors. The lady customer saw the little NEX-7 and balked, she canceled the shoot and wouldn't have anything to do with it even after he tried to explain how good a camera it is.

fuuuuu now nikon is supposed to announce a retro styled full frame mini body with the d4 sensor. limited to 5.5fps, so maybe reusing the d600 shutters that were replaced in the new d610? suggested that it's a pentaprism body so not mirrorless. interesting.

LOL. :people:
Some guy on POTN was saying how he wants to upgrade from his 50 1.8 II because even though he gets great pictures out of it and his customers love his results, some of them seem a little put off by the fact that they have that same lens.

he should b/c it sucks as a professional lens
It's not that bad as a lens, optically.
http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare-Ca...non/(camera3)/0
That says nothing to build quality or ergonomics or "feel" of the lens, but image quality wise... Can't really complain about the stats. Just don't drop it. Or breathe on it.
FWIW I use the 50mm 1.4 and absolutely love that lens, but I don't like the way the focus ring feels. Feels cheap, but it's 1/4 the price of the f1.2, so it is "cheap." My only other complaint is it does have lots of CA at wider open apertures, but thankfully that's a super easy 1-click fix and therefore #aintcare
I've had a guy ask me once why I had all L glass except the 50mm and I just told him straight up that the red ring does not always mean the best lens for what you do. I do agree though that the 1.8 is probably pushing it if you need to keep up appearances, since that is LITERALLY a bottom end consumer lens.

Really getting into the Nikon....I shouldn't be spending a few grand right now, but I waannnnnt one! I'd likely be better off with a new mac pro, but still! Here's hoping my show is quite successful and I sell a million prints

I think it's a build quality gripe more than an image quality, Cyril.

I fell on my EF-S 10-22mm, still going strong! The Nifty Fifty not so much. But for the price the IQ is fantastic. Better then any kit lens you'll get on the lower end crop bodies. I just wish it wasn't so long on a crop because I'd probably use it a lot more.

I felt the same way... sold fly's 50 1.8 for a 50 1.4 and hated 1. the CA 2. trying to use it as a general purpose on a crop body.
After I got my 5d I got the 85 1.8 and the 35 f2 and was just going to skip the 50 entirely until B&H had it for $99 shipped. I just couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't because 50 on the 5d really is pretty handy. And the cheapness means it's the one lens I don't feel like I have to be OCD about how I treat it and always keeping a hood on it, and if it breaks I won't be heartbroken, which is kinda nice.

Maybe I just don't baby my gear like everyone else does. insurance is a beautiful thing
Yeah, but do you want a lens with that ease of breaking in the middle of a shoot?
And I'll go FF mirrorless once Canon and Nikon decide it's ready for pro bodies.

The last teaser vid for the Nikon is out and it looks like a pretty solid / fun to use camera, but then that is the marketing dept's job. Had a fleeting thought about using the $$$ I have been saving for a fast UWA for one of these things then remembered the MSRP. A Used D700 + old AI lens I already own would probably do the trick for a 1/3 the cost image-wise with less of the retro appeal and a mirror.
http://www.slrlounge.com/body-elements-revealed-nikons-latest-pure-photography-teaser
The ISO dial or whatever it is looks pretty nice but not $3K nice.
One day.
