My copy of LR3 should be here on Friday or next Monday. Did anyone upgrade to LR3 and does anyone know a good instructional book for Lightroom?

I hope that I can improve my PP skills.

Kelby's lightroom book is pretty good, but honestly just look on the web as most of the tutorials you'll find there can be found for free.

Mrbeefhead show some respect to the next POTUS. With the state of this union who knows what may happen in 2012. Of course, that assumes that we all somehow survive the 2012 end of the world thing.

Anywho, the box is on the truck and LR3 will be on my doorstep when I get home.

I'm trying to decide on whether to buy any editing software.

Lightroom 3 looks like a retail version of picasa. It has that local brush, but not sure if it's worth $300. It does RAW as well, but I don't use RAW for hobby shooting.

Photoshop elements looks like a pretty good bargain. I remember the program being less than user friendly, though.

I looked in the member information thread and I think everyone has both programs... and then some.

Lots of college kids?

I'm not sure what they did in the algorithms from LR2 to LR3, but I've noticed that at least on my camera's files, the sharpening and noise reduction are *far* better. It doesn't seem nearly as quick to operate though, and I'm only working on 5mp files \:\(

Hmm. My files are a tad bigger.

I just watched a video on the adjustment tool, and the guy did a great job showing some really good touch-ups.

A bunch of my shots are ruined by something random in the background or shitty exposure in random places. Always thought photoshopping looked cheesy, but I based that on old memories.

Still is, on some forums. lol

edit # 3: Trying the demo for once.

1) I do not pay for this, its readily available for free. Though I am an asshole.

2) Mike you have to consider the benefits of Lightroom for more than use as editing software. It is, bar none, the best catalogging and organizational software for photographers on the market.

3) Shoot in RAW, dummy.

Picasa (and other freeware I use) does all that too. /just sayin'

I'm using the demo of light room right now. OMG

I took a shot of a bird standing on the ground and made it pretty awesome just by upping the "clarity" and saturation a little to make the bird stand out from the already oof ground.

This feels like cheating.

I would be shocked if picasa did everything lightroom does.

I didn't specify.

Was speaking of batch editing, organizing, etc. Lots of freeware for that. Picasa only has basic editing options, but is good for free.

Lightroom 3 is a vastly superior program. It should be.

The full LR3 version also has better noise reduction and built-in lens correction that are not in the demo.

I wish that I had more time to play around with it.

I love LR3... so worth the 99 bucks to upgrade...
its loads faster than 2.7, more organized, can batch out graphical watermarks, noise reduction is nuts, use of tilt/shift to fix vertical lines, brush app is better than 2.7 yada yada.

100% crops both images on left are old noise reduction
the bad one is OG file pushed a lil
the good one is LR3 having at it.
i believe these were shot at 12,800 ISO 5d2

There is an update for LR3 that I saw on Facebook. It has been tested but not to the point where it is an automatic update.

Here is the link:
http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/

Here are the details:
Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 Available on Adobe LabsLightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 are now available as Release Candidates on Adobe Labs. (Download here: Lightroom 3.2, Camera Raw 6.2, including the DNG Converter 6.2) The erelease candidatef label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers.

WAIT! What happened to Lightroom 3.1? Well, it never happened. In order to simplify the presentation of updates for raw file format compatibility, the Lightroom and Camera Raw gdoth version numbers have been aligned at g2. We update the Camera Raw plug-in and Lightroom regularly to provide access to new proprietary raw file formats and have aligned the decimal place so that therefs no confusion over which Lightroom update corresponds to a Camera Raw plug-in update and vice versa.

The final releases of Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 may have additional corrections or camera support.

New FeaturesThe ability to publish directly to Facebook from within the Library module
New Camera Support in Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 Release Candidates
New Lens Profile Support in Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 Release

Bugs Corrected in the Lightroom 3.2 Release CandidateThe following bugs that were released as part of Lightroom 3.0 have been corrected. The team appreciates the very detailed feedback the community has provided on the Lightroom 3.0 release and wefre excited to correct a number of issues experienced by our customers. These issues have been FIXED

Develop: A custom aspect ratios get rounded to nearest standard ratio when adjusting crop overlay
Develop: A history state is incorrectly added after creating a preset that includes a graduated filter or lens profile correction

Develop: The escape key incorrectly applies a crop after a CTRL/CMD right arrow with the crop tool enabled
Develop: The local adjustment brush could have a very slow first stroke when exposure is the selected adjustment
Develop: The Live Loupe view on a second monitor could become unresponsive when switching images in the Develop module
General: Certain menu items were missing from the Windows version of Lightroom
Help Documentation: Inaccuracies and translation errors were corrected throughout the help documentation
Import: Copy as DNG selection not remembered for subsequent imports
Import: For some devices the import dialog did not allow directory browsing
Import: Import image number sequence is not incrementing properly
Import: Panels in the import window fail to scroll via the mouse wheel in some multiple monitor configurations
Import: The EXIF renaming token was not available
Import: Windows could crash when attempting to import video files
Library: Sub-optimal preview rendering performance could impact application performance
Library: If a directory tree is collapsed prior to closing Lightroom it will appear expanded after re-launching the application
Library: 1:1 preview generation could appear to repeat itself for DNG files
Library: Importing keywords causes a catalog to hang when imported keywords already exist in the catalog
Library: Attempting to drag and drop a folder when multiple folders are selected removes a folder
Library: Cancelling a catalog backup can require an excessive wait time before the cancellation is complete
Library: Cancelling a catalog export process could require an excessive wait time
Library: An internal error could occur when published smart collection conditions are updated
Library: Choosing to apply recent keywords in a keyword set would cause the recent keywords to reorder
Library: Clicking the metadata flag on an image in the filstrip acts incorrectly on the selected image in the grid view
Library: Failed publish comments remain in the comment box across different images
Library: Flickr Publish Collection publishes to a Photostream in the reverse of the expected order
Library: Grid scrolling in a publish collection with the hand tool could fail (Windows only)
Library: Importing from a catalog fails when both catalogs contain images from the same folder
Library: In Smart Collections a hyphen (g-h) Is now treated as a word delimiter for gcontains wordsh

Library: Lightroom 2 search criteria g+abch meant gstarts with abch and gabc+h meant gends with abch. This was reversed in Lightroom 3
Library: Moving a stack to another folder only moves the top image and unstacks the remaining images
Library: Panning an image at 1:1 while the image is still loading can cause Lightroom to crash (Windows only)
Library: Ratings and Labels were not propogated to a TIFF or PSD file created for an Edit in External Application workflow
Library: Saving metadata on a folder is inccorectly labeled as gundoableh
Library: Scrolling or louping through many photos can cause Lightroom to start paging aggressively

I downloaded and installed the 3.2 rev and I didn't notice a change +/-.
I kept trying to install Camera Raw 6.2 before I realized that it was for PS and not LR.

I am wondering if it(camera raw 6.2) will work with my elements 7.
