Whats going on all? I havent posted in a while due to college but I somehow managed to get enough money for a new motor. My question is, how much power do you think I will gain from an lsvtec bottom end, ctr pistons, skunk2 valces, springs, retainers, and crower stage 3 cams?

My engine builder says aroiund 170 but that sounds a little low.

We will also be running a p28 chipped ecu.

Thanks!
Brian

port and polish? your definitely gonna have some high compression and that will help out the stage 3 cams, but hp #'s are all in the hands of the tuner, it sounds like it has a lot of potential.

I'd re-think those pistons.

Why would you rethink the pistons?

in an lsvtec w/ b16 head his CR would be low 14's high 13's, definitely need a good tuner or a thicker headgasket, probably won't be able to run on 93 octane unless you retard timing a lot.

assuming you have a b18a/b block and crank, with b18a/b rods, oem 3 layer head gasket, b16a head, and pct pistons your compression ratio is 13.96:1, if you block/head was decked or milled then expect the CR to be even higher.

I will keep you all informed...I am being assured that the cr will be around 12...

it up to some debate for the final CR. either way it will definatly be at least 12:1 or higher. Is the best gas u have 91 or 93? 91 then dont do it, 93 is better but id still re-think the pistons.

I'd personally run p30 (jdm b16) pistons. They will give u slightly less CR. Which IMO is better because it allows for more aggressive timing.

Also (it been a long time since I've looking into piston facts, so correct me if Im wrong), but i believe p30's are lighter which is always a plus. I think they also have a slightly smaller dome which allows u to run larger cams (as compared to ctr pistons) with less worries of clearance problems.

yah ctr pistons are the heaviest oem pistons, i think they weigh like 50 grams more than p30's there was a thread on h-t that showed all the weights of oem pistons.

And don't forget adding compression via a dome is about the worst thing you can do for combustion dynamics.

I would rethink the entire swap. I had a fully built LS VTEC, if you have any questions send me a PM but if I could do it all over again I would go boost

You know, its funny cause I was thinking along the same lines. But I think I would rebuild a B motor NA, it would have to be in a car lighter than the EM1 though. It sucks when you do all the work and still running 14s and barely making 13s.

Good point! In a Hb it would be good but an EM1 would be disapointing! I say go boost!!!!!
